I have had to replace yet another two FP231GT AP’s – that will make almost three quarters of the 22 AP’s replace since the system was put in around two years ago. I told Fortinet to collect the faulty units over three weeks ago which have been boxed up, addressed and left in reception. – they have not. They are now trying to invoice the school for none return. As well as the AP’s failing on mass and the fact we are still having issues with AP’s hanging on to devices and not letting go we will be expected to pay for AP’s that are still awaiting collection. Is anybody else having similar issues with Fortinet? I really hope Fortinet UK read this message - If so wizz me a reply with contact details and I'll have a chat with you.

Hi all, Many thanks for your help - it looks like AB tutor might be the one we go for. It does the job I want and the price is reasonable. Regards, John

Hi all, I'm looking for some management software for our computer suite. I want to be able to lock all 33 computer screens to stop children messing about when they should be listening to the teacher. Being able to project the teachers screen would ne nice as well. I don't need anything too fancy, locking the screen for all PC's or individual computers could be great and viewing what they are up to would be a bonus. Thanks, John

Fortinet FortiAP 231G Connected Classroom problems
bewlay51 replied to bewlay51's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi all, Quick update on my original post. After a number of firmware updates and tweaks the issues seems to have been fixed. I have to say a big thank you to the supplier for their hard work getting to the bottom of the issues we had. It turns out firmware that was the root cause. -
Fortinet FortiAP 231G Connected Classroom problems
bewlay51 replied to bewlay51's topic in Wireless Networks
Thank you for all your comments - we thought the installers had it cracked with the latest firmware update and some extra tweaking - but on Friday I had a couple of laptops not connecting, but were ok it the user left the room and walked up the corridor. Another laptop with no wireless and 4 or 5 Chromebooks not able to connect. We still have issues - the installed was done during the last summer holiday. -
Fortinet FortiAP 231G Connected Classroom problems
bewlay51 replied to bewlay51's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi - Thanks for the reply - site survey was done by the installer who have a lot of experance with Fortinet produces. Everything managed locally onsite. We do have access to Forticloud to register products etc. They did let slip that they have never used FortiAP 231G's before and we kind of agreed that the issue was possibly firmware or software. It's very odd. Some devices can't even connect to the AP's in their room, but wonder down the corridor they connect then seem to stick to that AP, once out of range, they disconnect and wont connect again until you go back to the AP that they were able to connect to. Problem is across a range of devices and the installed witness the issue first handing when on site with their own equipment. By the way - I've heard from another school they are having similar issues. I have to say the installer has done everything they can to fix the issue and will be back on site during the nest holiday. -
Hi All, Over the summer holidays we had all our UnFi Wi-Fi taken out and replaced with a Fortinet system based around FortiAP 231G. Lots of new cabling went in along with new switches and fibre links. Since then the Wi-Fi has been a nightmare. Here are some of the problems.... Weak signals even though the school is now littered with AP's Device clinging onto to AP's and not letting go. A user can't connect to the wireless in the classroom, even though there is an AP in the room. They walk out of the room, a few meters up the corridor and they connect. They walks back into the room and the device disconnects. This happens in a number of different rooms. Devices dropping off the network, then reconnecting or saying signal is weak. £50K+ worth of kit. The Unfi cost me about £2K to put in and it just worked. Has anyone ease has issues with the FortiAP 231G or know if there is a software or firmware problem with them? Thanks John

DHCP Lookup Failed 20x Chromebooks
bewlay51 replied to Alex0x7F's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Hi all, Thanks, everyone for the update - a quick comment to DGardiner - this is not a busy WIFI, we only have around 70 devices at the moment. I'll take a look at the WIFI setting on the UNFI controller and turn off auto optimise. Zoom7000 - I didn't know other schools are also having the same problem. I thought it might have been an update issue as everything seemed to be ok a few weeks ago. But within the last few weeks, I have updated the firmware on the AP's and I know Chrome OS has also been updated. I'll log a call with Google support and see let you have the call number.- 6 replies

DHCP Lookup Failed 20x Chromebooks
bewlay51 replied to Alex0x7F's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Hi All, Interested in your comments about Chromebooks and WIFI issues. We have Unifi AP's and recently a lot of our Chromebooks fail to connect to the WIFI automatically. You have to connect manually and then they seem to be ok although a few may drop off intermittently, but connect again in no time manually. I updated the firmware on the AP's a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if this is connected or not. Is this a similar issue you have been seeing? Thanks John- 6 replies

Hi al, I'm trying to BACS setup and running with FMS. The required file is being saved to Z:\SIMS\TRANSFER\out\BACS and confirmation emails sent. The problem we are having appears to be with the files generated that are required by the bank. It would appear the failure is with the XML file format and the bank rejects them. I can't see any other options I can change in the setup in FMS. The files are saved without an XML extension - BACS123.001 .... etc Has anyone seen this issue and can point me in the right direction?

Hi Does anybody know what this extension is and more importantly how to get rid of it (see screen shot). It's appeared on some Chromebooks and looks like it linked to the user login. I have had a look through the extensions and can't seem to find it. Its not one that has been deployed by the school; in fact I have just blocked Custom Cursor for Chrome. Many thanks, John

Email suppliers a copy of the Purchase Order direct from FMS
bewlay51 replied to bewlay51's topic in MIS Systems
pacapps solution has tested ok, and I received a test email. But you are right - I can't save the setting because I'm not logged in as "sysman", so I need to find out the login detail. Many thanks for your help. -
Email suppliers a copy of the Purchase Order direct from FMS
bewlay51 replied to bewlay51's topic in MIS Systems
Many thanks for all your help - I will give the second option ago, I didn't know O365 can use port 25. Let me see if that works when I'm back in the school tomorrow. -
Hi all, I am trying to setup FMS so I can email suppliers a copy of the Purchase Order direct from FMS. The problem is I'm can't seems to be able to setup Office 365 as a mail forwarder. Our support company has email Capita asking if they know how it's done, but no replay after almost 3 weeks. This is the message send to Captia.... We are using Office 365 and a mail forwarder. The problem seems to be the encryption type- Office 365 requires TLS setting and there doesn't appear to be an option to set this, although I can set the correct port number of 587. We know that the SMTP server does work because we have setup PaperCut to scan to email, the difference being PaperCut allow use to set the correct encryption type to TLS. Many thanks... John
