Just to confirm, attached is the part I am confused on. Is this the one I want the self signed or publicly signed one or the third party one and if the third party one, it would be the public facing address (directaccess.externaldomainname.uk) SSL. Sorry to be such a goon on this but I keep getting random certificate issues with this and if I am rolling it out to staff next year I need it to be bullet proof. Thanks

Long story short, its requires students to be able to run command line prompts among various other annoyances. I think most of us on here would like to see it fired into the sun however teachers seem to love the thing.

Morning, I am pushing direct access through a server with an internal network card and an external address. My question is do I need to bother with an official SSL cert or will the self signed one be ok? Im new to SSL cert however the setup clearly reads the certificate is used for the network location server (so not really looking externally) and the current self signed one reads "directaccess-NLS.school.internal" so I assume this is ok to leave this like that? I guess my point is it looks for an internal cert rather than an external facing directaccess.schoolname.uk (for example) address so wont require a third party certificate. New to SSL certs and a little confused. If someone out there is in the know, do I need an SSL from a third party? THanks

Need a little hand holding as I never had a mentor when it came to this... I have an internal website for printing which is accessed internally via "http://servername: port/webadvantage" . Can someone give me the easy to read, hand holding, step by step for complete noobs guide to being able to direct the above site to something more basic for the users such as http://printing please (internal required only)? I know it can be done but when you have someone who does not play with DNS often start creating entries it gets a little unnerving. My guess is to make a new TXT record but thought I would throw this out to the community before I break the lot. Thanks

One of my music teachers just came to me with a dream setup for a new recording room and although I admit it sounds an amazing idea, I doubt the very system exists so wonder if anyone out there has heard of anything like this... In a nutshell she wants a system where students appear for a music lesson, sign in via thumb print or unique ID (pulled from SIMS) so the recording or performance is documented with the lesson information and is then archived on the network and can be easily referred back to in the future. One of the main reasons behind this is when Ofsted appear, she notes it is hard to pull up several years of a students progression when dealing with such a practical lesson such as music and just wants to pull up a file on a student and present their last few years of progression at a button click. I admit this system sounds great and in the right hands is no doubt possible however I doubt such an educational focused system is out there. Does anyone know of a system even remotely built for the above job? I was thinking when photographers turn upto schools they must have a similar system for identifying and archiving and wonder if something like that can be adapted. Thanks all

Try upgrading to IE 11 and/or adding your site to IE's compatibility view. Seems to cure a lot of ills you may find.

I have a B5400 and yes I have the same issue. No fix as yet because I only have one and just use it for tests but may be nice to know you are not alone!

I didn't mind Vista. Give it at least a couple of GB of RAM and it really was fine.

Funny enough I had the same issue with IE11. Adding it to the compatibility list cured this so don't know if Safari has an equivalent.

Just playing with my Google Apps for Education console and noticed the Google + section has lost its warnings about incurring an additional cost and allows me to turn it on. I cant remember seeing this as changing as it definitely did carry a charge per user. Have I missed something or just stumbled upon something special?

I would go as low as the Intel G range. When you look into them they are i3's at heart but without the hyperthreading and advanced power and speed management. On the subject, With 10 around the corner I guess there is little point but if you fancied a challenge, Windows 8 runs so much better than 7 on slower hardware but the learning curve to manage it was a pain in the bottom.

Assuming its a network scanner running off a server I see no reason why Multipoint would not pick that up. On a related note, I am very interested as to why a recent installation did not use Multipoint 2012. The leap in performance was amazing beyond any expectation when I deployed it here.

Totally agree. I found Windows 8 a breeze to use and feel I am having to take a step backwards to accommodate idiots who cant move forward in life.

PMP here and as mentioned above, it certainly does the job however it really could use a facelift. I know the UI is not everything but it has an almost XP feel to it and has not evolved as a product in my opinion. It does update a lot to support new formats and is not hard to use and manage but just feels outdated. Hard to put my finger on it.

Hello all, It is new teaching staff laptop time for me soon however I need to ensure they are well encrypted this time round. I want to use TPM however it seems to be few and far between in laptops at the moment so wonder who can recommend any encryption software. Bitlocker with a PIN is an option I know and am looking at packages that AV vendors supply but they are obviously in their thousands so looking for community votes. Suggestions are welcome, either paid or free. Thanks

When I used my older SAN for media, I put a Server 2012R2 on there and you can create an NFS Share to mount on the Macs. That way you get the Windows backend with an easy to manage share in the format the Macs love.

We had exactly the same thing here and found it was to do with drivers and PCL versions... I must admit I didn't claim to understand most of what I read when I went into it but its about how the drivers perceive the format. In our case we got a new printer which supported the latest standards and everything went through fine. I know I sound crazy but next time you get a new, half decent printer in the office, give it a go with the latest drivers.
