Our university has implemented Multipoint Server 2011 (soon upgrading) with Ncomputing L300 thin-clients for all students and faculty. Everything runs smoothly, however, we are seeing an issue where plugged in USB drives are appearing to all logged-in users opposed to just the user plugging into their terminal. As you can imagine, this can become a serious issue where students are able to view faculty data and vice versa. Even a plugged-in smart phone has appeared on the network. Where can we modify this setting so that drives do not appear for all users? We currently utilize Active Directory and users plug their flash drives directly into the L300 Thin-clients. USB usage must continue to occur because students need to save assignments and they print often but this is a major security issue.

Achandler, running 70 clients on 9 desktops? Are they connected via USB? Just wondering why you decided to stick to a desktop opposed to server implementation.

Well now you have me worried! They only real issue that we experienced was where Chrome was causing the terminal screen to blink. However, Ncomputing assisted us making registry changes to avoid the issue. We also either replaced our old scanners, or reconfigured so that users would be able to scan directly to network folders rather than to user terminals, due to Multipoint limitations.

Thanks for the input here. Regarding disk space/speed, we are actually running everyone's roaming profile from one of our NAS systems. We haven't seen performance issues there so we will likely keep as is. So I guess that relieves that server from any drive related discussions. Thanks for your input. We've been running 20 on an i7 desktop (we were testing then quickly implemented lol, poor planning), and we really haven't had issues. The one-time was an issue with client screens blinking which we found out was due to Chrome. NComputing quickly helped us make a few registry changes, and answered to many minor things we needed.

We are running Windows Multipoint on a desktop for testing purposes and are looking to expand to 40 thin clients (20 clients per server). We are currently looking at the following set-up and are wondering if it will be sufficient, overpowered, or underpowered. I know MS has server recommendations, however, I still want alternative opinions for our application. We are a school, so most applications will be browsing/video, word processing, etc; typical tasks students perform, in addition to faculty. Politics! Well no, most of our users were simply used to Windows 7. That and our vendor only provided 2011 at the time (we are a school). We hope to upgrade to 2012 by the start of the upcoming year, at least once we are fully up and running. I haven't tried Outlook, but look like I had luck scanning from one of the HP's using MS Paint.

Ben, do you mean to scan to email using the likes of Outlook? I would much rather use a standalone scanning software if possible, unless I'm misunderstanding here. I have not had our users try, I'll see if this works.

Our organization recently implemented the following environment: Multipoint Server 2011 Ncomputing L300 Systems running Vspace 6 We have several all-in-one network printers including Canon MF4800's and HP M1212nf's. At this time printing isn't an issue, however, none of our users have been able to scan now that we are virtual. Does anyone have recommendations as to what software would enable users to scan? Because both Microsoft and Printer vendors seem to not provide applications which work in virtual environments. So far, we've had no luck with the below solutions primarily because they all seem to require a "workstation/server" environment: Dell RemoteScan Vuescan TSSCAN Surely I am not the only individual printing/scanning in a Multipoint 2011 environment.
