Yes, they don’t need to be perfect, just significantly safer than humans and that’s a pretty low bar. A major legislative hurdle is liability, if a self driving car causes an accident who is liable ? The owner or the manufacturer ? Another likely stumbling block is the (to my mind) weird and entitled attitude of many car drivers in this country. The outrage that abounds when someone tries to hold them to account for speeding or illegal parking, or otherwise dares to try and restrict them, is head scratching to me. I find it similar to the American obsession with guns.

Yes the illogicality of the financial side of car ownership is going to be hard to overcome. And if there's lots of money going somewhere you can be sure there will be powerful lobbies trying to keep it that way, coupled with the inertia/short termism/cowardice of politicians and the general public distrust of technology, I fear five years would be highly optimistic.

Poor darlings need to protect their profit margins. Only made slightly under 10 billion pounds last year. -
Thanks for the advice. In the absence of being able to find details of my dad's MS account, I'll give this a go.

I've got a personal laptop that I inherited from my dad. As a result of updating it, its now asking for a Bitlocker key, which I don't have and wasn't aware of. Looking into this I can see this is an issue that can sometimes occur and that the key can be in the associated MS account for the device. Not sure if I can get access to this but we'll see. In the absence of being able to recover it this way, can someone give me guidance on how I can - 1. Clear the hard drive so I can reinstall Windows 11, will Diskpart do the job ?, 2. If I do this how do I recover the Windows key/licence ? Thanks

Had a nice little reunion at a league game on Saturday. My previous team folded at the end of 2022. There were five former players at the game. Two on each side and one spectator. Funnily enough there were also five former players from my previous, previous team as well (though two post dated my departure).

That is often a consideration at the toss if the bar is open. If it is, field. Then enjoy the erratic bowling in the second innings 😀

I find if you drink one cider it can help relax you, if you drink many that helps even more as you then get a choice of balls to hit !

Well done to all of you. Played my first game of the season (had a lot going on that's prevented me from playing until now) last Saturday in serious heat, luckily with a decent breeze. Was guesting for another team. Survived fielding first, was not invited to bowl (very wise of them). Was very surprised at tea to be invited to open the batting (I normally do but didn't think they knew that). Sadly only scored 5 before being caught at slip off a ball that nearly decapitated me (dodgy wicket moment). Trying to see if I can get a game this Saturday or might take up a late offer to dust off my umpiring qualifications and do an official top level Norfolk game !

Congratulations on being on the winning team ! Barring umpiring a friendly in April I haven’t made it onto the pitch this season. My attempt to revive my playing career last season merely served to prove to me that my reasons for retiring in the first place were still valid 🤣

To be fair to Boeing (for once) the issue was with the rocket, not their capsule.

I have made the (probably unwise) decision that I really want to play again. Since my former club is sadly no more, I looked around for someone who looked suitably desperate. The captain's reaction to my skills ? 'Hooray, a willing umpire !' Managed to justify that with a 30 over stint.
