How to shut down a server by command line?
strawberry replied to TechSupp's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
open dos prompt, do shutdown /? will give you the syntax. -
physical - dc, virtual host 1, virtual host 2, san, standalone virtual host. dc for disaster recovery, 2 clustered virtual hosts with a san for instant failover, 1 standalone incase the san fails so you can restore the vms to a standalone machine. I'd them use the enterprise lciense to stick 4 vm's on each server, have a dc on the standalone, a dc on the cluster, and do some service duplication accross the vm's.

Best thing to do is arrange a referral scheme with a decent local shop. There is simply no benefit to you for doing the work, you could very easily end up in all sorts of bother.

How about using rds gateway to access the machines? -
mdt can be set to do varous things, on boot you can select your image, be it from cd or a custom one you've captured, you can then add programs, drivers are injected automagically and you can use different task sequences for different schools ( for adding to ad etc)

[mdt] Computer Naming- How does this work/ best way to do this
strawberry replied to joematthews's topic in O/S Deployment
if you leave the name blank it will prompt you for a name, not sure if thats an option? -
depending how far you are it may not pay to do so. The mcsa and mcse have upgrade exams to achieve mcitp status. Dont be fooled into thinking one supercedes the other, they are very different quals with different topics covered. If you can have both them its much better than just having one. Also... MCSA's wont expire, mcitp's will. and mcsa, mcitp is better looking on a cv than 2x mcitp and the mcsa is frankly a better subject range then the mcitp:sa.

in my experience its unusual for the technical to be managed by the pedagogical. Technical usually has a LM in or around SMT

Have just lost the second decent account manager in a year and once again their replacement is just not up to scratch. Anyone happy with their toner suppliers?

The key thing is to remember their not Capita. Some bits are better, for instance they are quite good at sorting out unique solutions and some things are quite bad, they dont always follow trends seen elsewhere using bigger software. Overall I found them ok, more personal than most companies and they didn't fill me with dread like some software.

depending on how much your planning to backup and the time frames then 2k on disks might well be a total waste when sata will do. misco do a quantum kit quite cheaply. for 2k i'd buy 2 cheapo hp servers, stick one in the server room, one in another building. Stick 2 single tape drives in each. get one to replicate to the other and have each one spit half of the backups onto tape. That way if anything happens you dont have to find a server and tape drive to restore

how many ts servers? how do you route to the servers, do you use a tsfarm or a session broker service?. Do you have any policies in place to end disconnected or idle sessions?
-
1. nope, you point them to the farm name, dns then picks a server, the server consults session broker and gives the client instructions. 2. donesn't matter, if they're all the same then they'll all get the same amount of connections.
