Removing a PC from the domain and then adding it back via RDP
strawberry replied to bodminman's topic in Windows
stick vnc on it rather than rdp, but use sted's method,it should work. -
Client host setup mate, install a server somewhere then use it to push out the clients, reboot later and it all should work. Free version has a trial period for 180 days i think.

Exactly that, Teachers have access to change passwords but they won't. It usually means me coming back to the office to find tickets with random usernames plastered all over them.

I'm a one man department, If i moved from within shouting distance of the ICT rooms the level of distruption during ICT lessons would go through the roof. I pretty much need to be on hand

I wouldn't even need to with our bursar, loverly chap, But we are having a door put on so it should be fine and dandy.

Went to the bursar today. Me: servers in my room are noisy B: can we move them? Me: not easily B: can you move? Me: Yes, but i wont be next to our ICT Suites. B: can we drown the noise? Builders arrive tomorrow to measure up my new server annex where the lobby is! .

upgrade from mcsa 2003 to mcitp server admin

Yes, and tricky. There is a lot of content, might be worth doing the 2 exams rather than the upgrade. -
Microsoft IT Academy Summit - Questions? / Attending?
strawberry replied to EduTech's topic in General Chat
Drat! missed that one -
Loads of power sockets, your own network cab with several switches and some wall mounted monitors above a decent work bench with a half height shelf so you can put monitors and tools on it. Some lockable storage for stuff that will fly out the door. Some wall mounted monitors for monitoring equipment.

Access to Facebook for teachers
strawberry replied to paulst30's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
As other people have said, bounce it. It's not a technology issue but does cause massive issues elsewhere, personally I think any teachers claiming it has a teaching use are frankly wrong. The PSHE lessons would be great if they took the class into town to talk to strangers but that wouldn't make the teachers popular, cool or give them something to do instead of lesson planning so its not done. -
Wisesoft do a great piece of software for exactly this, its called ntfsfix
-
I think its part of the profile, not sure if you can use a network based version to override but. If you create a network based blank version it might get rid of the existing one.

SLing box is The winner for sky. For free view a media centre with remote potato would be good.

Exchange - Internal forwarding to another mail server
strawberry replied to bodminman's topic in Enterprise Software
set the domain as in an internal relay domain (emc, exchange organisation, hub transports, accepted domain) and create the relevant send connectors, so * goes out via smtp and yourdomain.com goes to the other exchange server. -
Happy Birthday! Have you checked the date on the chocolate? Sounds like Del Boy has opened a birthday shop nearby!
-
You need a management server , you then install agents on the servers you want to backup. Server is the same for enterpise and standard, its the agents that vary, enterpise is needed for sql , exchange, that sort of thing.

It's a slightly restrained rant whilst my complaint progresses through the company. Basically they've taken on project work for us and taken a very unreasonable amount of time and still not delivered the project. Along the way i've been lied to, had engineers not turn up, had engineers turn up and work on other projects neglecting ours and been overcharged for underspecced equipment.

Shocking, truely shocking. Bad even for a managed service providor.

On your internal DNS create a forward look up zone that has the same domain name as you use outside ( lets say school.com) and set an a record for your server ( vle) . So when they lookup vle.school.com its your dns server that returns the internal ip address.

Turning old laptops into TS clients?
strawberry replied to Sam_Brown's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
slim down a 7 install ( or use thin pc ) and change the shell to run a rdp file instead. Not ever tried it with wireless though.
