Thanks guys, The problem was the uplinks, If i put the AP on the same switch as the router then all is well. Now just to figure out why all the uplinks are tagged when they seemingly shouldn't be!!.
-
Cool, I'm not far off then, only difference I have between your setup and mine is that I have the uplinks between the switches tagged for ID1. Would that be enough to break it?
-
Would be a tremendous help!. I'm using the most recent version of the controller. Sat in our meeting room on our live switch with all of smt connected....
-
That would be great, thank you I think i may have found the issue, all of our vlans are tagged on the uplinks!
-
yup, Thats pretty much what i've been trying. Could you sanity check some things for me? Assuming I have a data vlan which should be default and an admin vlan 1. Controller doesn't need to be on all vlans, just the data vlan 2. Does the port need to be trunked or just access with the admin vlan tagged and data untagged?

Has anyone setup Vlans on their unifi wireless? I've followed all sorts of guides and got no where. Tried on HP and Cisco, Has anyone managed to set this up?

Yup, I feel your pain, Best I can muster is a dragon punch in my imagination everytime someone talks to me.

Primary School Network - any suggestions of layout?
strawberry replied to jinx4275's topic in How do you do....it?
If i were you i'd look at using 2 pieces of physical hardware and running hyper v with virtual machines so you can move all the vm's from one machine to the other if you need to. A W2k3 enterprise licence entitles you to run 3or 4 vm's on a physical server so you can seperate out some of your roles if you need to. -
use them, cheap, great looking, functional. Best thing to do is splash £150 for 3 and give them a test. You can download the software and have a fiddle for free.

Hacking in schools is easy, wait till the screen goes black then press f12, B , I , L then press F4 and Alt together. When the machine reboots take yourself along to the nearest teacher and tell them your messing around with the school network and should be dealt with. in the meantime go away and learn some more about computers, You obviously are trying something out of your depth and your not going to learn much if your banned from every computer in your school!
-
Just to check, you are working for the school and not a student aren't you?
-
Not a bad idea, adds some sort of status whilst a reputation is built.

What have you tried? Are you using job websites?, have you had any careers advice?, Have you considered work outside IT for a while?. I know a lot of people think going into some corner of the internet and asking or even demanding something will get them what they want but in your case your best option is to find jobs, apply for jobs and in time, get jobs. No one else can or will do it for you. Best of luck job hunting.

This isn't a technical problem i'm afraid, It's a management problem. The way to remedy it is to speak to management and get it sorted. Chances are he's done it for a reason and finding a way around it might well be to your detriment, you might end up losing files or break your acceptable use policy.

Single point of failure there would be the san. Consider a standalone server that could mirror services and host machines in case of failure. implement DFS on your file shares, host one file server on the cluster, one of the standalone, same with DC's, and backup the cluster to the standalone so you can start the vm's albeit with a little less ram and processor.

yup, they're all internal and all are AD integrated. Ideally the portal would be sso from inside and out.

Righty dokie matey peeps. At the moment we have an exchange server, a lync server, A moodle server and RDS. I'd like to tie it all up on a nice single sign on portal. Can someone point me in the right direct for sharepoint? , Which version? what's possible? Whats funky?

Remote Desktop to workstations not server
strawberry replied to iownitcouk's topic in How do you do....it?
Build an admin machine with VNC on it and deploy VNC to the other machines, RDP into the admin machine then vnc to the client. Laggy but easy. -
First thing to do is ask the head what he wants to achieve, He's told you what he wants, but not why he wants it.
-
If you save it as a pps(x) it should just run for you.

strawberry replied to MachoManRS's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Ideally each one of those services should be on more than one machine. -
Logon computer via iTALC? (or some other way..)
strawberry replied to Uplift's topic in Network and Classroom Management
No idea about italc, but I use RCLogon , but only works with xp. uninstalling apps I would use appdeploy.com to find the uninstall command and use psexec to launch it. -
Wsus is great, but best used with Group policy. If your AD is controlled elsewhere speak to them about setting up a GP for it, You'll only need a entry spec server for wsus.
