are you using w7?. rd web has issues with external certs in w7 without service pack. xp and w7sp1 will both be fine. ironically a selfsigned cert would be fine.

zero touch may not be the way to go, if you use mdt and lite touch it allows you to manually enter and select differences for the computer, This can be things like which programs are isntalled and the name of the pc. It can also do things like run scripts at your command so if you use enviromental variables or similar that can be done automatically.

I would be tempted to not use 3 hosts, I'd use 2 sets of 2 with 2 seperate sans. Lots of processor and ram on the hosts, and 2 Mirrored system disks then find some beefy servers and use something like starwind's Iscsi software. Use a dedicated switch and you'll be fine and dandy. if you use hyper v you can failover in real time between the clustered nodes or move the virtual servers from one cluster to the other use virtual machine manager in a short space of time. If you ensure that key services are available on each cluster you'll be nice and secure.

diagnose the basics, Can you ping from workstations? can you resolve dns names? can you ping external ip address? Have you checked any logs on the proxy server?, Which services can get in and out?,can you address websites using their ip address?, where does a tracert to an external website stop?, Can you ping the proxy server?, Are all the services running on the proxy server?,is dhcp working?, is dns working?
