In a school I did the site for I had a PHP include() to a text file and a password secure page for the head to edit that text file. The include was on the homepage and set to h1. Obviously is the text file was blank it displayed nothing. It started out as a snow day warning but the head was soon using it as a high notice area. Mainly for school closures and parents eves etc. The head (or designated person) could edit this page/text file from anywhere with a web connection.

Shame about the cloud cover though.

When mine did this it was the Glow Plugs, as you have said you've changed them, are they getting power? One 'trick' I used to use was to turn ignition so the glow plug lit, turn it off then on again (the IT way of doing things) so they had at least two charges. Failing that I had some spray that I used to spray into the intake that used to start first time.

Not so much an 'official' way but if you navigate to c:\program files\applications and find the weather folder, there's a folder called video. Just rename this folder to video_old (or whatever) and then start the weather app. Just get a plain blue BG then. You may have to play around showing hidden files to see the application folder then take ownership or alter permisions to be able to get in it etc. but it should work (did on a test laptop I've got). Hi, Not in the south west, but I use it here in both my schools, as do most of Sheffield primaries as the LA really pushed it when our previous contract ran out. So far it's been great, web mail for everyone, outlook on office machines with calendars and mail box delegation (for info email and head calendar). School calendar embedded on our website. It's great if everyone uses it, not so useful if staff don't really want to adopt it, but I guess that's down to your management team to push it.

At least we know where the Stig goes on holiday.

Might sound obvious but it once got me. There aren't any card readers or anything on your windows 7 machines that might be taking up H: drive? Windows 7 hides unused drives by default so might still be hogging H: even though it doesn't show in my computer. Just a thought Hope it helps, Dan

Hi, Thanks for all replies, email been down at work so not getting alert emails. What I did in the end was a bit of a mixture of all suggestions really. Bought a big button and little project box. I then ripped (read carefully took out the screws) open an old keyboard and found out what two contacts f8 went to and wired the button up to those. Then as LiamH said I just custom keyboard shortcut f8 to run the script. Job done. Works quite well too. Thanks all

I've always used a few cable ties or similar to attach it to the wall so it can still be used with ease but without it been able to go walkies (think pen at the bank). Seems to work OK and no one has moaned about it.

I unfortunately don't have any more suggestions as to the black screen. But in regards to the CD you should be able to hold the mouse button down whilst switching the iMac on which should eject the disc. IIRC this process is carried out before anything else. Failing that a thin pair of pliers has worked for me in the past, ruined the disk though

Hi All, Bit of a strange one. Does any one know of, or has made a Button (physical) that can connect to a computer (preferably linux based) via USB that when pressed will execute a shell command? I've had a quick google and all I could find was the cheap 'Panic Button' toys. I'd want something similar button wise but want it to do more than open a screensaver etc. Would it be possible to hack apart a USB keyboard, solder a button bought at the local electric shop to the correct part of the keyboards circuit board and somehow have that execute the command? Not looking for anything solid just any ideas of how I might go about it. Thanks, Dan

You Could also try a PRAM reset. When turning the iMac on hole down CMD + OPT + P + R (it's a finger stretcher) and wait for it to reboot (you should hear the 'bong'. Solved many problems for me in the past. Dan, ACTC

If you get any info would it be possible to post it here or PM me? The one that hadn't updated since July has now decided to start working again of its own accord. So something must have crashed that started again when I opened the console.

Just been onto look at my other school and that's not updated since the 7th of July I guess the email warnings aren't working/setup correctly. I'll see if I get any checksum errors when I restart over night and let you know.

What SMTP server are you using? Whenever configuring email I always use smtp.yhgfl.net rather than say google's smtp server. Seems to usually work. Standard port for smtp.yhgfl.net (25?)

I don't have any problems connecting to gmail through outlook 2010. As long as the proxy is defined in IE. I have noticed however that using a .pac file to define the proxy doesn't work very well with other applications like outlook.
