Konica Minoltas usually have to have a print card or some other thing at a seperate cost. We have a copier without one where I can ping the copier as well as scan to the network, but can't print due to the lack of a printing card/interface (can't remember the correct term). I'd check with your leasing company (if leased) or your documentation if you own it. Hope this helps, Dan

Hi, Our internet speed hasn't been too bad. It was very slow yesterday morning but soon picked up around 10ish and has been ok since then. Agree about the blocked sites though. Not had any complaints from staff but I've found a few, Dilbert, XKCD and theoatmeal to name a few. Although TBH kids shouldn't need to go on them anyway, it's just an annoyance to me.

On a similar note, does anyone have an electronic signing in for staff and/or visitors? If so what do you do fire reg wise in that case? I ask as we're currently looking into such a thing. My thought was a dedicated receipt printer connected to a big red button or in an ideal world the fire alarm.

We're a medium sized primary. We have laminated class lists that are kept on reception. After the classes have done their register we run a report to find all absent pupils. These are then marked as away on the laminated class lists using a dry wipe marker. If a pupil turns up late they report to reception where they are then marked as present and the laminated class list updated. Same in reverse if a pupil leaves mid morning. Same process repeated for afternoon registration. When a fire drill/the real thing happens the office staff take the laminated class lists outside and give them to teachers to check that all are present who should be. At the end of the day the laminates are wiped clean ready for the next day. So we only use one A4 sheet per class per term.

Do you do any kind of projector cleaning?

Does your WDS and Spohos server have a static IP address? If so is the IP of your DNS server entered correctly as the primary DNS server of you WDS and Sophos server?

Mobile version is also not blocked and turning off javascript disables the blackout. I think it's more about raising awareness more than denying users access. Most people will read the message then proceed to find a way around it.

Just remove the ABS from your last column to leave E3-F3 etc. Wouldn't that work? EDIT -- If you want the difference to be how many years older their reading age is from their actual age swap the formula around eg F3-E3 Hope this helps.

Are the desktop shortcuts mapped to the UNC path or the drive letter? I've had problems with mapped drives not showing because a card reader or similar had assigned the same drive letter as the mapped drive. Therefore the mapped drives weren't showing in my computer. This may be something you've checked / not applicable to you but as no one had mentioned it in this thread I thought I would. Hope this helps, Dan

We have gone down the EES route as we have far less FTE staff than we do computers so it was quite a large saving for us. It also meant that we could continue using our current OS (xp) and upgrade to windows 7 without much worrying about licensing. It also enables us to buy new machines, again without worrying about licensing. As to what happens at the end of the three years (you can also pay yearly) is one of three options. You can either renew your contract for another one or three years. Or 'Buy out' the licenses turning them into perpetual licenses (quite expensive but would be a one off payment) or you an stop the contract and stop using the software. Last summer we bought five promethean boards and installation from @CPLTD was very pleased with service and end result.

For our domain laptops that leave school we use Sophos with a secondary online server (no proxy) so it can update at home. We also have them set up with offline files so staff can work at home on their work which then syncs with the servers when coming back to school, and we have TrueCrypt installed for encyrption of any machine that leaves school. So far we've not had many problems virus wise, and offline files works well (as long as you don't sync your network shares).

This might be a daft question, is it free, or is it like other 'free wi-fi' the wi-fi is free but you gotta pay for the internet?

Strange, I've not had any problems with ours. I suppose ours gets very little use. Had it about a year and probably only done about 120 cards.
