Gatt Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Just found this out - and after spending last 3 months getting the damn thing up and running !
marco84 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 What a shame!!! And I had only just spent £1500 on a new server yesterday for this exact purpose. Never mind.
ChrisC Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Wow, I really didn't think it would be such a u-turn. A happy day for most methinks....... Chris
webman Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Oh dear never mind. Roll on the next big government IT education mistake... Oh, BSF........
Guest PatBoland Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Our gamble paid off. Our SMT just ignored these tests. I raised the idea of these tests being abandoned on this site some time back and everyone said no, never. Nice feeling now! Maybe my SMT are useful after all, won't hold my breath though!
ind13 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 just had this emailed to me from the dfes http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/teachingandlearning/secondary/ks3/year9tests/ictpilot/ if you read the FAQ's at the bottom Does this mean I don't have to use the test? Yes. The use of the test will be optional, but we strongly recommend schools to take part in the summer pilot and use the materials that will support assessment for learning.
OutToLunch Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Whew! Wasn't looking forward to being forced to try to shoehorn it onto our creaking NT4 K6-2 400 PDC whilst explaining that it wasn't going to be very happy!
ChrisC Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 does it even run on nt4? i thought min spec was server 2000? Chris
linuxgirlie Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 woohoo, and we get to keep the free server they gave us....double bonus!!
ChrisC Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 How the hell did you swing a free server? Chris
krisd32 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 well this is a right git i just made the school shell out for 2 new servers and 62 new machines because of this and the fact the older ones in the it suites wouldn't run the software. saying that though they did need replacing! Kris
Jake Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Excellent...now we have that WoW emulator server we have been after
CyberNerd Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 *Very* pleased :wav: It brought our entire thin client network to a standstill and despite 10 months of complaints RM did very little to resolve the issues. Just a shame RM got paid, and now get shortlisted sell VLE's and BSF. Obviously history doesn't come into the equation. grrr.
linuxgirlie Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Because we run Linux, and refused to do the tests unless they make it compatible with our system, so they sent us a free server with red hat on it, but it says in the contract that we own it but it can only be used for the testing until it no longer needs to be used for the ks3 testing we can do what we want with it. Jo
dezt Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 And I only just remembered about this today, I was going to set it up and make sure it was working, but now it all looks pointless. Yippee
spc-rocket Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Wonder where is Russell, so far no comments from him!
alan-d Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Wonder where is Russell, so far no comments from him! At BETT I presume - buying everyone a beer as RMs rep

john Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I have not used this (the structure of schools in my area means I dont deal with the right age range at them) but YAY!! After reading your threads I was having knightmares about if and when I came across this product and now I won't be having them
