Thank fook for that, I hope the project gets waylaid for several years. I was part of the pilot last year and it didnt work properly and required the tests to be installed on each individual machine, couldn't use GP.

Wish i'd got a free server though :(

woohoo, and we get to keep the free server they gave us....double bonus!!

How's this for timing - our free server was delivered yesterday - the very day the test was scrapped!! Quad Xeon with all whistles & bangs!

Like linuxgirlie we refused to take part as they hadn't made the tests compatible with our system (Novell Netware).

Result!!!

:D :D :D

couldn't use GP

You meant couldn't use group policy? I pushed all the software out via them so it wasn't soo much of problem but I'm happy we don't have to do it.

Am i in a minority here or just lucky.

At my last school we had very little trouble installing and running the test from a technical view point. Just followed the instructions, checked the readme file and found RM very helpfull when we did have a problem

Yes the interface is different but the kids (and they wern't the sharpest knives in the draw) got their heads around it far more easily than the staff- is that the problem?

OK they may not have done very well but thats down to the piss poor way that IT is taught. Its got to be the most boring subject out there.

I will miss it for the following

The amount of time i am expected to do other peoples jobs who are involved with the exam. Because its ICT they seem to think that you need to be involved in every detail of the thing including training support staff, teachers and exams people in it and being sat in the exam room in case something happens.

My experience was the same as E_G_R, i had very little problem setting up the software from a technical point of view.....

We ran the tests last year, and we use Viglen, and they dont support the use of rolling out software via GPO, so i had to install it on all machines, but i just put it into a ghost image....

The school still wants to keep the software and keep running the tests so they can level the kids, so i guess i still have to keep it running, i would love to just wipe it all off the server, but no joy there

There was cheers from the Senior team at the school yday when i delivered the news though!!

Another reason not to go with something like that setup then what a pain in the ass that is.

I'm not sure there is any reason why it wouldn't work.

Judging from comments so far then, not many of us (and we can expect it to be th same across the country) are planning to continue with the pilot. Is this the general concensus or will we follow recommendations and use the test for 'feedback' purposes?

I am wanting to run a pilot, possibly of reduces scale, purely from a curiosity of a "can our network handle it?" point of view.

SMT are now asking how beneficial it will be for students learning.

So all the goats I sacrificed weren't in vain :)

My SMT beleive that the LEA still want them to go through with it :(

This could well be true. OFSTED inspectors could decide that the tests are a good way of assessing pupil development in ICT, so why aren't you using them? Don't uninstall anything yet

lol beeswax

PowerPoint Karaoke - often seen at school assemblies :)

Were going all the way with the tests this year!!!!!!

I'm afraid I wasn't joking. OFSTED could very well see this as one ready made assessment of skill levels, so why not use it?

My SMT are now dragging their heels on cancelling this. My HT sent me this link although I can't see what it is actually trying to say. Sounds like total blather to me in an attempt to justify such a huge waste of public money.

It is therefore important that schools engage with the test as soon as possible and make use of opportunities for practice and familiarisation.

Yes lets all teach the test - cos the interface does not really resemble anything they use throughout the rest of the year at school or home. (What an idiot!!!)

I meant lol about the karaoke.

The test we are doing and will continue to do as directed by higher agencies

sorry about that. we've had our priorities changed 3 times today, and I don't know if we're coming or going.
