Like Karoshi Version 8 this version is built on a modified Ubuntu 12.04 LTS release which is then remastered. What's new in version 9? Karoshi Version 9 is a major new release which has seen significant internal changes due to moving from samba3 to samba4. Active Directory Support Full active directory support for windows clients. Active directory can be managed by standard windows tools from a client computer. Additional Domain Controllers Extra servers can now be added and automatically configured as additional domain controllers or read only domain controllers to share network load. Kerberos Single Sign on Single sign on using kerberos tickets for authentication to email, printing, internet, and moodle. Karoshi Linux Client Support The server and linux client are now closely integrated so that the linux client does not need to be configured to recognise any extra services being offered by the server, you can also download the client from the websites listed above. Examples of this would be: Adding the email server module - the client will automatically add in the settings for thunderbird for kerberos authentication via dovecot imap. Adding the internet proxy module - the client will automatically reconfigure firefox settings to use the proxy. What has changed internally on the server? Ldap Karoshi version 9 uses samba4's internal ldap server to store user details instead of using openldap. DNS DNS is now handled by samba4 and stored in the same internal ldap server. Adding extra servers The authentication for extra servers is now configured when the servers are added rather than trying to be sorted out when modules are added.

I'm afraid I do not know what they are paying, you might be able to get that information if you email the school.

This is my old job but has had a slight revamp as they now want the Network Manager to be responsible for the website, social media and marketing which I did not have to do, also they have reduce the job from Full Time to Term Time plus 3 weeks, apart from that it is pretty much the same. Hi, We have a firewall - IPCop (with Block Outgoing Traffic installed) and it is causing problems with iPlayer/4oD. It use to work with an IP/Port hole (which I didn't like but worked) which solution I got off here but this no longer works, so I assume they have either changed IPs or Ports or the whole way they deliver videos. Doing a wireshark scan shows a massive range of not only IPs but also ports that change everytime even when refreshing the same video, and on 4oD it also changes ports whilst playing the video due to the adverts being on other servers. I don't think just opening massive ranges of IPs and Ports is very secure! What have others done with their firewalls? How have you gotten round the problem? I am obviously getting the "At my old school" and "It works at other schools" comments etc so how is it done? Thanks, Jo

Ban mobile phones and wireless networks in schools, say European leaders - Telegraph --- Do you think anything will come of it, or do you think it is all just scaremongering. How much would it effect your schools? We have quite a lot of wireless and it is used, but we also have a wired computer in every classroom so it wouldn't be a massive problem if it was all taking out. Though I know a lot of primary schools who have no wired network at all, and this would be a huge cost to them if it had to be changed.

This is a new rule and has been changed so yes you can have Ally and Horde on the same server.

Hmmm this is a hard one, I had a Mac mini for a while and it was very very nice, though it only cost me £300 so no where near the costings of the high-end Macs. For the hardware I couldn't believe how fast it was, the loading times were amazing for something that had such little power, in the end I sold it as I didn't use it as much as I could of, but sometimes I miss it, as I found it was the missing link between Windows and Linux....easy to use but stable. Saying that if we take out the OS and Software part of things I would go with a PC, the reason being I know I can build a PC from scratch for a tiny price and much faster system, but that is only any good for us tinkers and not your average person. But to be honest, in an ideal world, if it worked I would go for a PC running Apple OS, sounds crazy but I would be very happy with that setup.

Yeah me too, all my chars are horde. Well having an early lunch @work(never have time to have lunch at lunchtime...ahh the joys of the job:)), so just created my char, her name is Joannix, and she is a Worgen Druid on Agamaggan.

I am also happy to roll an alt on that server. You only need 4 chars now and you can make a guild, so only one more. As it's non-rp we should be able to call the guild 'edugeek' as well. ^^ Damn it, im going worgen as well.....we might end up with a slight worgen overload But I will be rolling a druid healer as I know how to play that as it is my main.

Agreed, we were looking into going to work by train but when we calculated all the costs it was still cheaper to go to work by car for the both of us than it was by train. If they make public transport cheaper then I would seriously consider using it.

I agree with this, this is what a lot of the students do at my school because they use their pocket money. On the character side of things they are never deleted. I deleted a char of mine and changed my mind 3 years later and they managed to recover it for me.

An "Alt" is an alternative character to the one you play most often. So for example if you play the game 1 hour a day everyday and 6 hours you play your Shaman and then the other 1 hour you play your Druid, your Druid would be called an "Alt".

Hmmm well I am addicted to store pets, transfers, race changes...... I think I will ignore the cost! Well I could recommend "Stormrage" it's PvE though, but my guild is all adults and quite a few work in IT. It's not hardcore either....but if you want us to start all alts I couldn't as I have filled it up. Though I could transfer....damn there's the bank balance decreasing again.... Happy to roll on another server and PvP one is fine for me if that's what others want as I heard it makes you a better player Also I am hardcore Horde, but I would also roll a Ally for a Druid Worgen...please please please give me an excuse to!! Up for a go, if you want me.....

Make it four! I never liked the idea of paying monthly for a game, but once I started I got hooked, dread to think how much money I have spent in the last 4/5 years.

I use Eon for both Electricity and Gas, went to them because they were the cheapest for us on uSwitch at the time. Only problem I ever had with them was when they tried to charge me £400 a month because they hadn't been able to check the meters, I rang them up and gave them the figures and they said "Will £70 a month be ok" ....true bloody right it was...nearly had a heart attack when I opened the letter!

I have recently bought .eu and .co domains, I got them for the set rather than thinking people might use them. I agree that .co seems to be missing something, looks weird. I also think no matter how many you bring out if you haven't got .com or .co.uk people will either forget the domain or arrive at someone else's site, it's just a default reaction.

Yeah, it's still going, I tend to swap between wine and cedega depending on what I want. I am addicted to Starcraft 2 now, never thought I would like a strategy game but its cool, don't have much time to play it though as Warcraft eats up my life!
