I play World of Warcraft mainly, some FPS like Half Life, Mafia, Doom3, sometimes The SIMs3 and I also like Neuzuiz and Hedgewars.

Petrol-head here as well....well Diesel-Head at the moment, have a Chrysler 300c which is a 3.0 V6 Diesel. I would say though that this was definitely bought as a WANT and not a need. It took me a lot of saving and going without of other items, and my personal opinion is that anything that is above the main human survival is automatically a want and not a need so carefully consider every purchase I make.... .....though some can say I am over-frugal!!

Thanks for that it was great, more opinions from other schools would be welcome. I am actually quite serious about learning more, as we are currently 1/4 way though our application. What are the average equipment amounts, eg. ICT Suites? Random Computers? I know it won't be anywhere near the over 2/1 we are use to here, but what are the provisions? Is it true you can have up to 40 in a class? and that some schools have 10 computers to teach ICT because they teach mainly theory? Also if there are any ICT teachers on here, it would be great to hear your views on teaching the subject and the provisions you have, as it won't be me who is working(to thick!), but my OH as an ICT teacher. I will look at some random school websites but they all seem to be very quiet when it comes to talking about ICT, but obviously Sport, Drama and Art are the main things promoted, but that is understandable! 24 miles here, takes us about 20-25mins by car. But I know someone who drives over an hour a day to work, and someone else who takes over 2 hours by train to work each way!

I'm on 20mb as well but we get 20mb don't think there are many others using it, so i'm sure it will go down in the future....the problem I have is the cost of phone calls! I have to re-open my skype external account as it was costing a small fortune. EDIT: oops, dammit....I will share your shame zara!

Urmm you have confused me now?!? With segfl we get the first 10mb free (well top sliced using the budget mentioned above) and then anything above 10mb the cost goes incrementally. So we decided to stick with just having the "free" 10mb.....so that's why I was asking what will happen....I assume they will start charging for the "free" 10mb again, and if so when.....because if it is in April 2011, that can be budgeted for, but as the article stated that it would start mid-way through the year we could be stuck....saying that, that might decide in our area not to charge still and cut the losses else where.

hmmm I would be interested it what this means to those of us who get free broadband.

In the UK, the majority of schools run a system that allows school administrators to do things such as add users, create windows profiles, change passwords, and the majority of everyday network managing things that schools need within a specially made GUI. I would recommend HTC as well. I bought mine as I wanted a Linux (Android) phone, and I haven't regretted it, tested out apps and have managed to get everything other people have on their iphones. I am using t-mobile though and a HTC Hero, but can't complain.

Are you using cupsaddsmb? We haven't tested on 64bit client.

If it was me, if it was going slow I would first check that the server can go out on the internet at a reasonable speed. Then follow other avenues.

Would the users home areas be on the box or on the server? We have a cron job that runs that does this for us, but that job could easily be run on the client so that every night at 5pm the home area is wiped. We just use the 'rm' command - for example: 'rm -d -R -f /home/users/guests/guest1/*" This is then run on a cron job that we setup, we can also disable or enable or change the password of all the guest users at once. Again our lockdown of the system, is done on the box or as the user. When doing it as the user they get the 'profile' downloaded at login. Again this is all done server side. I suppose if you want to do it client side you could, get a ubuntu box, create your user, lock it down with gconf or similar, setup cron, get it to run the above command at a certain time. Though that does not help you if someone logs into immediately after the last person.

I also would say ubuntu, though I have had trouble on laptops with graphics before, the recent being yesterday, where I had to use a pclinuxos disk instead as that did recognise the graphics.

I am assuming this is stand-a-lone? We have guest accounts on our clients (ubuntu) but the users are created on the server and the password is changed the and home area wiped at the end of the day/week/month whatever we decide. It does have a password as well, which can be changed to what we want....will this be a stand-a-lone box? Connected to a windows server? Linux server?
