School Trips - Do you get to go?

So who here has been on a school trip?

 

With rarely cover coming in, it is a great opportunity to go as you dont require staff cover especially if there are other technicians. After all, a day on a trip is no different in school from a day you are off ill.

 

i am off tomorrow on a week long residential trip to SW France watersports holiday. Can't wait, 90 kids and 10 staff. Its not my first, I seem to be luck to have had so far 10 days out on trips in 3 years!

Nope, never been allowed to. There was a possibility of 2 days in Germany a few years ago but both my boss and the Head made it perfectly clear that I wasn't allowed to go despite it being a short trip. I think that was really down to the technician's abilities or lack thereof (there's only me and 1 tech) and although the one we have now is very good I'm not sure it would make any difference.

I've only ever been on two - once to the Science Museum in London, and once to the Millennium Dome when we were celebrating the millennium. I was down to go to China on a trip but it clashed with my holiday in the summer - which was a real bummer.

Never been on an actual trip, but I went with the school football team to a tournament once

Luckily enough i get to go all the time, been on about 5 or 6 trips this year and 2 x 1 week residentials, its much easier for them to go without a tech for a week and just put up with any problems they have, although have been lucky this year when ive been out, then have a teacher out for a week, and pay for supply, so it works well for both school and me, as its nice to get away from the place for awhile

yep go on a couple every year. Been to Blackpool, Alton Towers, Xfactor a few times over the years.

I get to go on our 2 yearly trip (5 days) to Paris with 60+ Year5/6, have been on PGL outward bounds weekends, trips to London etc. I'm cheap as they don't need a supply to cover me

We get to go on any trip (if we are asked) and we also can arrange our own.

so far a day trip to Duxford two 1week trips to France, one week skiing in Austria this year and I've got a week in Kent on an outward bound course coming up. Not being required on timetable is excellent.

I went to Birmingham museum last year (and got stuck in a lift), Villa park and 3 days residential camping.

 

But unfortuantely the head has put his foot down as apparently i am "too expensive a resouce". I hear they are short for the camp trip this year....

4 years, I was offered a chance for 2 trips. The first I couldn't do, cos my passport was off for renewal (French trip for 2 days). The second was a visit to a local heritage site for a day, which I had to decline. I'd been working on editing a video for the school's production, and had, for free, worked 20 hours over the weekend, and a further 15+ hours that week in my evenings on it.

I couldn't warrant taking a day out of my working life to go on a school trip, when I hadn't seen my wife in 4-5 days due to work, and then have to add another day at my weekend to catch up on it!

France twice, once for a week, and once for a couple of days. Then to Copenhagen for 6 days - that trip was awesome. Also went somewhere over the lakes with a primary school. Never been offered in my current school - think they are a bit more uptight about those sorts of things.

I've been to Alton Towers a few times, plus skiing at the Xscape in Leeds and Chillfactor in Manchester.

 

I was even allowed to organise the annual school ski trip to the United States :-)

Xscape is really good fun, its a stones throw from the school im currently working at.

I get to go and be official photographer, to collect resources and document trips. This happens about once a year, well worth the effort.

I havent been on any yet, but I've only been here a couple of months. Currently trying to wangle my way on to a Chester Zoo trip - my argument is that I can provide valuable background information as I have a degree in biology. Once the foot is in the door just need to pull the rest of myself through .

Support staff here are actively encouraged to go on school trips - been on quite a few both 1 day and weekend residential

Agreed :-) although I do prefer the one in Manchester as it's longer and wider :-)

Photographer is a good way to blag onto trips, somebody who used to work here used to go on a lot through being a first aider.

I tend to go on the outdoor trips like walks around the woods, horse riding and trips to farms. I don’t do other trips like Zoo’s, museums and the like.
