Thats why I love XDA developers. I just put android on my HTC HD2 (supposed to be WinMo 6.5) and its like having a brand new phone, but for free!!

I've had an account since it first started, when it was only for uni students. Haven't checked it in months. My friends have now realised that I dont check it and text me instead. The only reason I haven't deleted it all together is that I have uni friends on there that I would lose contact with - people change mobile numbers etc, although as i haven't been on for months maybe that counts as losing contact... :S

Graphic design software being...??? Photoshop? Illustrator? I can't imagine these running significantly better on a Mac than on my pc for instance - i7, gtx285, ssd, 6gb ddr3.

One of the plus points for macs is supposedly they are better for graphic design etc. Does anyone have a real justification for this?? I have heard plenty of people say it, but no one has ever given me a real reason why they would be. I would be very interested to hear if there is actually a technical (or useability) reason that would make them better for this area.

The back has less nerve-endings per cm than almost anywhere on your body i think, so should be easier to take than anywhere else.

I decided to go into IT a couple of years ago. I did the COMPTIA A+ exams by buying a textbook and reading it. So far it has been of no use whatsoever in getting a job, its all about experience. All the jobs I was applying for required at least 1 years experience working in IT, which I didn't have. In the end I got this job through the mother of a friend, and have basically created my job role. I am now moving on to another job elsewhere, but everything I have learned here has been invaluable. An apprenticeship sounds like a great idea, combining the learning and experience. I think the key thing overall is that you have an interest in IT in general. You have to take at least a certain amount of pleasure from fixing problems, and as a previous post said, you have to be willing and able to follow instructions no matter how tedious and boring.

Living in manchester, I haven't yet "needed" a car - don't get me wrong I have wanted one for a long time. I currently cycle to work which is probably quicker than driving in rush hour traffic, but extremely stressful - I have actually been crashed into whilst stationary waiting to turn right onto a side road. I've got a new job starting in 2 weeks however, and will need a car to get there as its about 40mins away (by car). Hopefully getting one today!!! So, while the OP is thinking about how he can do without, I am now thinking about all the wonderful things I will finally be able to do - like getting more than 1-2 days worth of supermarket shopping at once!

oh yeh and +1 for Inanimate/non software related equipment marked "Windows 7/vista/xp ready" - I just ordered a mousemat which apparently is compatible with win 98, 2000, xp and vista...not windows 7 though :S, maybe I ought to send it back??

I like ACER's at the mo. Great battery life and good performance and they feel much higher quality than they used to. I believe the TimelineX series have "chiclet" (mac) style keyboards now which is nice. Overall good value for money. edit: keyboard is not chiclet...

I thought it kinda missed the point. No one buys a new sd card to take new pictures. The storage media the camera uses is fairly irrelevant, its whats in the computer. So long as you back up your hdd somewhere, and convert to new file formats as they are made (how long have we had jpg's????), no problem I can see...

Just been reading over at XDA...might have to try it on my mates phone first heheh. I've flashed custom WinMo ROMS before, but i'm always a bit wary of bricking the phone so i'll do it to my mates first

Yeh I've been checking on XDA for months now for this. Seems a bit much for me - you have to dual boot your phone, with Android running off memcard. There still seems to be quite a few bugs too - what I want is an Android ROM that I can put on it and get rid of WinMo completely (although I do actually quite like it - Office mobile etc, plus remote desktop!) Basically I want a desire HD... *edit: They have now developed NAND ROMS so you dont have to run it off memory card. Hmmmmm...may be time to break my phone trying it :S

Completed the SP in 4 hours or so - very disappointing. AI was absolutely terrible. Played MP for a few hours, got bored fairly quick. This game is no improvement over the last, in fact its not really any different apart from the SP AI which is worse. Battlefield FTW

get the desire HD. Ive got the HD2, which is a great piece of hardware, but unfortunately runs WinMo 6.5. Its not bad, but its not Android. The Desire HD looks like the HD2 but updated a bit and with better OS - I've used the desire a fair bit and really like it.

I've always thought the same too, but since using both fairly regularly atm I can't really notice a difference. Sonys menu system and added extras are much better tho (bbc iplayer primarily - dunno if this comes on those models ^)
