  1. I thought up to series 6 were great, but series 7 onwards a bit dissapointing. Hated the introduction of kachanski. A bit concerned about these new ones, back to earth wasn't great. I'll still watch em though
  2. Hot curry with LOADS of garlic in...the ultimate bug killer. Both chili and garlic are good for the immune system, garlic also has antiseptic properties. Followed by a pint of lemsip works every time for me
  3. The simplification of football to "kicking a bag of wind about" is entirely ridiculous. One could apply the same principle to all arts, sports, and basically anything that isn't inherently productive. You wouldn't say Michelangelo's ceiling in the Sistine Chapel - just a bit of paint splashed about. The fact is that whether or not you appreciate the sport, these people are true artists in their fields. They have worked the majority of their lives towards the perfection of "kicking around a bag of wind", and personally I think represent the accomplishments of an advanced society, where not everyone has to do something 'useful'. I agree entirely that they are overpaid, and that nurses etc 'deserve' to be paid more (doctors DO NOT earn a pittance, £24k starting salary minimum and more with shift allowance BEFORE you have even qualified is not a pittance...its double my wage), but 'deserve' doesn't come into it in a capitalist system. They are paid so much because the sport generates that much income, like it or not it is one of the most popular sports on the planet (the most?? don't know the stats), with millions of viewers week in week out. Most footballers are pampered princesses, with no concept of how the real world works, or how normal people live. Maybe there should be salary caps etc, but the money would then just go to the clubs and their owners who would do what with it?? Give it to all the nurses?? Basically, I love football. It hasn't always been this way, I went through a period in my teens of hating it (just because it was popular, and I was a skateboarder and we were supposed to be anti pop stuff), but I got over that. Now I just appreciate it for the beauty of the skill involved, and the passion of those that follow it. Having said all this I'm not too fussed about the world cup, I find it tends to be people who support teams that aren't in the premiership that go mad for the world cup, as its their chance to support a team that are half decent.
  4. :party:Happy Birthday
  5. Haha, it was dual purpose. Was also seeing if anyone fancied a crystal meth party at lunch today...you in?
  6. Especially PURE greed. Greed mingled with doubt, regrett, or any vindictive sentiment is fairly average. But PURE greed...well...pound for pound its worth more than happiness Happy birthday!
  7. OOOoooo shiny. I like. U do it in illustrator then finish off in photoshop? I had a go last night at doin it in illustrator, took me half an hour to just do the outline of the shield haha. Stuck the jpg in the background as a tracing image then used the pen tool to trace the outline...is that the best way or is there an easier way? One other question...do you have a graphics tablet? Thinkin of buying one but dont know whether its a bit excessive for my level of skills. I love messing with photoshop, mainly photo retouching and composite images, but struggling to justify spending a few hundred quid on a wacom tablet :S Sysman = God of all things Graphical
  8. I know its a bit pointless, but the kids seem to like it. I set up a google analytics account last night which seems to be working nicely, although will have to wait a few weeks for any really useful data. Thanks for the tip though, i'd forgotten about analytics
  9. No, we get free rubbish coffee (and I mean horrible really - 2 sugars and plenty of milk to mask the taste :S). It'll be a ham and cheese baguette for me today with lettuce tomato cucumber jalepenos and sweetcorn
  10. Not watched it yet, but I think I will. Read Charlie Brookers article on it, and he says it actually gets good at about episode 4-5, and Charlie Brooker is GOD. Extreme violence, nudity, and copious amounts of swearing - whats not to like??
  11. Howdy, I've recently done this on photoshop for our school, but as you can see it needs tweaking as it doesn't look right (mainly the font). My illustrator skills suck, so any1 fancy a go? It would be much appreciated. I have attached the file (new to these forum mejiggies so hope it worked )
  12. Thanks thats some useful detailed feedback -The empty divs are a function of the template generator, presumably it creates them whether they are used in the template or not. If I have time I will go through and clean them up. -Framing the newsround site I wasn't sure about, and tbh I only really did it to provide some colourful content for the site, as the teachers have generally been a it rubbish in providing any :S (I know thats a poor reason) -Colour scheme not my decision, although I think I will try and tone it down a touch over the holidays -I agree the header is a bit wasteful, was planning on having a picture of the school or some of the students in there, again think i will probably change it over the hols -Hit counters are AWESOME, as they tell me how much everybody loves me, and I need that kind of validation in my life
  13. I'll drink anything if its going, but if I have a choice then Becks, Krombacher or any german/czech lagers bottled. If im down the pub then generaly marstons smooth from my local, or any of the guest ales. Strong drink of choice is a single malt or nice brandy for 1 or 2, but if im out on the town then vodka + mixer all the way (supplemented with sambuca/tequila shots and Jager bombs - love em ) Oh, and gin and tonics for a summer afternoon or 'warm up' before going out.
  14. Me too (well not the hating IT bit, but I do wish I was a zoo keeper) - unfortunately I think it pays significantly less than IT
  15. I havent been on any yet, but I've only been here a couple of months. Currently trying to wangle my way on to a Chester Zoo trip - my argument is that I can provide valuable background information as I have a degree in biology. Once the foot is in the door just need to pull the rest of myself through . "yes I would be ideal to go on the watersports trip as I have advanced qualifications in dinghy sailing, kayaking and windsurfing..." "yes I would be ideal to go on the walking trip to the lake district, as I have a wealth of experience in walking...left foot right foot left foot right foot..."
  16. hmmmm curiouser and curiouser. Cant seem to replicate the problem from here. U think it might be some settings in your browsers?
  17. I prefer to be called by my first name - especially because it makes me less authoritative. I've never worked with kids before, and have had no training in it so the only way I know how to act around them is in an informal way. I have tried telling some yr 6 kids off before, and they basically just laughed at me lol. I really dont mind though cos they all seem to like me, and I think in some cases it means that they actually listen to what I say as they know i'm not a "boring teacher trying to tell them what to do" type. I suppose it would probably be different in high school though.
  18. When you say every link, do you mean internal or external ones? I have set the external ones to open a new tab/window, but all menu item links etc should stay in the same window (it does whenever I try it).
  19. Scared me for a second then...thought there was an undercover tech at our school!! Will be replacing the pic with a better one when I get it. I'm realising that this is going to be the annoying thing about looking after the website - unless I take full responsibity for the content as well (creating/sourcing it as well as uploading it) then the website is never going to be as good as it could be...
  20. AAhh sugar-butties - Only just stuck our site up on 1.5, and now i'm gonna have to figure out how to upgrade! Sounds like it will be worth it though - the categories thing was something I was annoyed with
  21. Sounds almost like my ideal afternoon . If there were trees involved then perfect. Any1 know how u get to be a tree surgeon?
  22. Shouldn't have done really...need a licence to handle bats in the UK due to rabies.
  23. @danrhodes - I'm from Manchester, why do you ask? Yeh as I said it was only supposed to be a mock up. The letters are actually exactly aligned to the centre line of the shield, its because it isn't a monospace font (the H and P are different widths) that it looks off line. I have done another version with a monospace font (recommended by sysman) that I will swap into the template when i've messed with the colours a bit. Again, thanks for the feedback
  24. Aye, none of our projectors have been taken care of properly. I dont think any of the filters have ever been cleaned. I've only been working here a few months, and most of the projectors are locked in cages which the key for seems to have gone missing...hey ho
  25. Yeh was thinkin along similar lines, also seems to show up purple on some of our projectors lol. Thanks for the feedback
