I've had an account since it first started, when it was only for uni students. Haven't checked it in months. My friends have now realised that I dont check it and text me instead. The only reason I haven't deleted it all together is that I have uni friends on there that I would lose contact with - people change mobile numbers etc, although as i haven't been on for months maybe that counts as losing contact... :S

Graphic design software being...??? Photoshop? Illustrator? I can't imagine these running significantly better on a Mac than on my pc for instance - i7, gtx285, ssd, 6gb ddr3.

One of the plus points for macs is supposedly they are better for graphic design etc. Does anyone have a real justification for this?? I have heard plenty of people say it, but no one has ever given me a real reason why they would be. I would be very interested to hear if there is actually a technical (or useability) reason that would make them better for this area.

The back has less nerve-endings per cm than almost anywhere on your body i think, so should be easier to take than anywhere else.

I decided to go into IT a couple of years ago. I did the COMPTIA A+ exams by buying a textbook and reading it. So far it has been of no use whatsoever in getting a job, its all about experience. All the jobs I was applying for required at least 1 years experience working in IT, which I didn't have. In the end I got this job through the mother of a friend, and have basically created my job role. I am now moving on to another job elsewhere, but everything I have learned here has been invaluable. An apprenticeship sounds like a great idea, combining the learning and experience. I think the key thing overall is that you have an interest in IT in general. You have to take at least a certain amount of pleasure from fixing problems, and as a previous post said, you have to be willing and able to follow instructions no matter how tedious and boring.

Living in manchester, I haven't yet "needed" a car - don't get me wrong I have wanted one for a long time. I currently cycle to work which is probably quicker than driving in rush hour traffic, but extremely stressful - I have actually been crashed into whilst stationary waiting to turn right onto a side road. I've got a new job starting in 2 weeks however, and will need a car to get there as its about 40mins away (by car). Hopefully getting one today!!! So, while the OP is thinking about how he can do without, I am now thinking about all the wonderful things I will finally be able to do - like getting more than 1-2 days worth of supermarket shopping at once!

oh yeh and +1 for Inanimate/non software related equipment marked "Windows 7/vista/xp ready" - I just ordered a mousemat which apparently is compatible with win 98, 2000, xp and vista...not windows 7 though :S, maybe I ought to send it back??
