I'm hoping this is the right place to ask. I'm long out of the IT support game having jumped to corporate MSP in 2011. However my wife is a governor at our local primary and their current 3rd party support has yet again messed things up. Can anyone recommend any good 3rd party support companies, ideally in Essex? Primary/Junior school, approx 500-540 students.

Many insurance companies will also offer discounts for having a dashcam fitted. May only be 10% but might be worth a look and adds peace of mind for you as well. I've got front facing Nextbase 312GW cameras in my car and my wife's Freelander.

As @Garacesh says, if it's a 2.5in (and being 320GB thats likely) it may be stuffed beyond recovery. Platters in those are a glass composite thingy (so I'm lead to believe) and once broken are pretty much done for. I seem to recall there was a BBC type show about how much data could be recovered from a drive once disposed of. Reporter removed drive from laptop and threw it out of the window, then said to DR expert, "So you can get all my data from that?" Answer : Nope Kroll Ontrack is good, get what you pay for though. I would caution against being too invasive with any enclosure, last thing you want is a recovery company saying "We could have got it back, if some idiot hadn't opened its box"

I've had a suberhub 1 and now 2 (running 100Mb). Had a couple of issues with the 1st gen defaulting to factory settings, complained about that so they ran some tests and sent the new one out free. Now running the new one in modem mode with a Mikrotik 951G-2HnD router which has been rock solid.

Can't do the writing bit but can read as fast as normal both upside down and mirrored. I've met plenty of right handers who can just about do it, but seems to be mostly lefties who can do it with ease.

Very heavily left dominant here with the exception of using a mouse with my right as that's where it was growing up and I got fed up with switching sides. However I can use a mouse with left hand, just choose not to. Used to confuse the students when I sat between two PCs with a mouse in each hand. I can also shoot right handed, but didn't have a choice in that with the SA80, I use my shotgun and air-rifles mostly lefty though (unless trying to hustle someone).

Used to do a 52 mile round trip, now down to 12 due to a change of employer. Quality of life massively improved.

I heard a radio interview with an Asda exec a little while back who said "we try to make sure every 3rd checkout is guilt free" (or words to that effect but definitely "guilt free". I get what they are saying but it's an interesting phrase when coming from the shops. They know exactly what they are trying to do.

Bit cheeky, but, rough idea on cost per pupil for a typical secondary school?

A colleague of mine is looking to do some development work for a local school. Part of the proposal involves understanding how SIMS is licensed, and the school doesn't know (only person who does is off at the moment and not due back until after proposal has to be in). Can anyone shed any light on how it is licensed (per pupil etc?) I only ever got involved in patching and fixing so avoided that side of things like the plague. Many thanks in advance. (PM appreciated if the answer can't be posted publicly for whatever reason)

I believe the eventvwr stuff is first as the bait and hook. Once they have you convinced something is seriously wrong with your PC you get escalated.

That certainly rings true with my experiences of them. The front end get very upset when you accuse them of scamming you, but then again, they're almost too defensive. Methinks they do protest too much!

Not lost, but the day I purchased a new TV my spaniel jumped onto my lap and knocked the new remote off the sofa into my pint of Speckled Hen, it was dead, so batteries out and on the radiator, then on ebay for a new one. As soon as new one arrived I don't know why but I tested the old one with new batteries. It worked, and still does! Oh well, I've got a spare for next time. I feel your pain.

I had one on Christmas eve, lovely early present. Gutted I didn't have a VM ready (will resolve that soon). Strung him along for about 15mins then let slip that I wasn't going to be scammed. He got very upset and was going to give me the number for his office so I could call them but hung up on me instead. Gave me an address in London for where he was based. I have had 3 different friends caught be this, two gave card details but all three let the gits on their machine.

Bit of a resurrection here, but I finally have video. Nothing like @JAB1a's flying and the image quality is absolute rubbish so sorry about that. Next task is to build a proper battery caddy so it doesn't fall out in the rougher landings then learn to fly properly and FPV here I come. Very happy. Totaled everything up today for a friend, from having nothing (apart from tools) to in the air ~£280 (then crashed it badly on first flight and spent more), could have been cheaper but I went to local model shops for parts and advice rather than risking ebay for a couple of bits. Got an ESC tuning card which was invaluable. I think doing that manually would have driven me nuts.

My wife just picked up a MotoG from O2 for £129, she's very please with it. Nice screen, good level of features. Swappable backs was a real bonus for her to find (little things). Bit feature light compared to anything I would want, but at that price I don't think you can beat it.

Minor setback, second set of test flights resulted in liftoff and then spectacular pile in thanks to 15 degrees of aileron applied by controller as default (thought I had checked, whoops). Broke all props, one prop mount lost, one motor mount broken. Next test flight will be done strung between a couple of trees. Lesson learned. Probably spent another £35 buying a replacement X525 frame (woo, loads of spares), prop mount and props. Should be good to fly again this weekend. Until then, here's a pre-crash photo with my wife's 1:72 scale airfix spitfire project (she wanted to build something too and we were in the model shop)

For heating I use a fish-tank heater, fully submersible and thermostatic control Thermostatic heater for maintaining the correct temperature when making beer or wine

I've got 40Pints of woodfordes Wherry in the airing cupboard at the moment (wonderful understanding wife). Got everything from my local shop first time round, now just buy the kits. Probably going to get another barrel in the new year and have two leapfrogging brews all of 2014. Can't recommend going to a local specialist enough, they will usually be happy to give advice on kit which they have probably used in anger.
