People say this ST:D show isn't really Star Trek, not sure why, it has exploding consoles, terrible physics, ponderous dialog.

 

I've only seen the first ep, but I'm not getting these complaints, either.

Tried out the first episode of Star Trek Discovery. I was never a huge trekkie so I am not precious about the Roddenberry Star trek universe, and so I personally don't have an issue with the Klingons being so far removed in looks from the original.

 

For now I will say that it has piqued my interest, so I will continue to watch it.

To be honest, the Klingons from TOS and the Klingons from TNG were worlds apart(no ridges, never quite explained, although tribbles...) Liked it too, and I am quite a fan of ST as a whole. Seems first 2 were a prequel, "hey we've got some big name actors, but we are going to kill them, then next week we will turn into a new kind of show with new known actors" Time...will...tell

3rd episode Star Trek Discovery, begrudgingly liked it. Thought it was going to be "monster of the week", but turns out it's an arc, which is nice. Much prefer the treks when they hit big story arcs, big fan of DS9 and the Dominion War arc

If you are referring to the first episode of the new series, I agree, "interesting"

 

If you are referring in general, then yes quite enjoyable in a turn your brain off, weird ball of zombie kind of way :)

At this point, is it worth splitting off Discovery into its own thread?

 

The fourth episode was ok, they’re obviously setting things up but I felt a bit nonplussed at the end of it.

 

It also has shades of the Voyager two parter, Equinox

Electric Dreams

Ep1 was ok, ep2 was good, Ep3, The Commuter starring Timothy Spall was brilliant. You can tell it's a good show when afterwards you have a discussion about what was going on, don't think we've done that since Black Mirror :)

4 was a bit meh, they did gloss over the whole "lets hook up a species we freely admit to having never seen before to some computers and hey presto satnav super computer" explaining it away with the Glen already solved that one! Although cool spinny ship! Not sure I like the new Klingons, they remind me of romulans/remans from the reboot movies. They seem more calculating than war like, I like my Klingons to slam down flagons of blood wine, and make a decision on a whim, because glory of war.

Just caught up with James May, The Reassembler, series 1, fascinating as well as funny. Now to find series 2.

 

For those (like me) not familiar with it, James reassembles three items from their smallest component parts ... a Suffolk Colt petrol lawnmower, a Bakelite telephone and an electric guitar.

Finished watching Peep Show! Seen the various episodes over the years but I've binged the 9 series over the last couple weeks.

 

If you like cringe comedy look no further!

 

Does mean i'm after a new series to binge... to keep me going to the Doctor Who Xmas special!

How do you feel about fantasy-comedy-musicals.? Will we have to agree to disagree?

 

 

Or normal but somewhat risqué musicals? Fairly sure this one isn't too naughty (unlike most of the songs in the show).

I watched these a while back after I'd watched his Toy Stories series, I found it very therapeutic to watch, it gave my inner OCD incredible satisfaction.

Looks like series 2 is on iPlayer (or at least the first 2 episodes are). :)
