What do you do outside of the office ?

Any of may spare time is taken up with the family (3 kids) or out on the bike. Currently do around 80 miles a week now the weathers nice and have a few sportives coming up

Don't tell me that, I fitted a pair of nightbreakers not a week ago!

 

oh well I didn't even think they were much brighter but cosmetically the bluer tint looked better just not worth the cash. It might of been exacerbated because I have auto headlights but the factory bulbs seemed ok I(and ones gone back in cba changing the other) and unlike my last car that also had auto lights that chewed bulbs don't think I went a year on that without changing a bulb or 2

I'm worn out just reading what you lot do! (Though I'm impressed by the amount of "community" work some do).

 

Weekdays I get home, organise some TV/check emails, cook dinner, have shower and settle down with the missus for an hour or 2 of telly. Weekends is house/family stuff. Might occasionally get some videogaming/reading in.

Used to do a lot of RPG's, both live and tabletop (AD&D + Lots of other systems, World of Darkness etc)

Now mainly PC gaming and sims.

Been teaching myself electronics and have a large collection of bits and pieces scattered over various floors. Raspberry Pi's, Arduinos, BeagleBone etc.

When I can summon the energy and the weather is nice, I do a spot of Photography too.

 

Basically boils down to - If I can buy a gadget to do it, I will.

I put some Nightbreaker Plus bulbs in my headlights, they were brighter than the ones in before. Although they have both blown now, I blame the potholes!

Mon-Thursday I'm normally studying for an exam of some description as well as catching up with family and friends and then most Friday-Sunday's I spend as much time out on Dartmoor cut off from the rest of the world, get home and blog it a bit. Hate being in!

I don't own a boat, and as I'm usually on my own, usually a Laser, or toppers (because school has some at the club ). I sail on a little lake in North Yorkshire.

Stuff I used to do:

* Hill walking: I catalogued the WW2 crashed aircraft on the Brecon Beacons

* Used to play guitar in a couple of bands. We were highly unsuccessful, and didn't tour Europe or America. Several times.

* Photography: Used to do loads of B&W developing and printing. This was immensely enjoyable, but digital killed it off.

* Semi pro photography: Weddings and portraits, stuff like that. Weddings were a world of stress, so I stopped doing them.

* Welding: used to make weird things just for fun. I made a bike once - not just assembled it, but made one. It was 11 feet long, and not the most practical of things.

 

 

Still do:

* Reading. Not too keen on fiction, but love science and maths topics.

* Mountain biking: Try to get out on the weekends on the big old Kona.

* Guitar: Still trying to write that amazing song. Hasn't happened yet.

* Kayaking. Don't do much of this any more, but still got a SOT sea kayak. These are good fun in the surf.

* Photography. Just bought a lovely little Fuji X100S and doing a lot more photography.

* I've recently bought a unicycle, but it's much harder than it looks. Haven't really made much progress with this.

* Snowboarding. I've fallen down mountains in California, Nevada, France, Switzerland and Austria

My main passion is high jump. Still okay at it after twenty years. Bit of coaching, bit of competing. Training twice a week. Not far off Masters age now!

Heavily involved with politics since 1990. Various roles. Candidate for Westminster in 2001 & 2005. Regional Secretary to one of the then big 3 for 7 years. Parish Councillor for 11 years, District Councillor for six. Now campaign manager for three Green Party candidates. Founder in 97 of a pressure group campaigning in particular against synthetic sweeteners (especially Aspartame) food colour ants that trigger hyperactivity and preservatives that trigger asthmatic reactions (especially Sodium Metabisulphiate). School governor in secondary school for 11 years. Former runner, still registered as a technical field official and coach for athletics. CWO and general helper at local rowing club and last but not least since 2004 a Freemason (a widely misunderstood organisation founded on the principles of brotherly love, relief and truth which loosely translated equates to being moral and otherwise well behaved, and part of the second biggest downer organisation to charity in the UK) in that I'm a Past Master in the Craft degree, Inner Guard in the Mark Degree and Organist in the degree of a Royal Ark Marriner - which sounds like I might be musical doesn't it but no sadly I only play the disks! Father of one boy and three girls. Six grandchildren. Apart from that life's pretty quiet!
