JB7 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 (edited) Hi Guys, Correct me if I am wrong but I hadn't seen a thread about this before so thought I would post one. The majority of us have similar jobs during the day when it comes to IT but I am just curious at how different we are outside of the office. Have any of you got hidden talents? Have we been sat here all along not knowing you're actually the stack-a-cup champion in Bolivia? Post them below; I'll start the ball rolling with the fact I referee football on my weekends and occasionally midweeks too, it's a great way to keep fit and a get a bit of extra cash in the pocket. I'm working my way up the levels at the moment and hoping to make it to the top eventually. Other things include: Watching Football, F1 and other Motorsports, spending time with the family, girlfriend whilst trying to be the cool uncle to a 3 year old niece p.s Happy Friday !! cpjitservices Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 When Im at home, I spend time with the wife and the kids ... play with the dog... and when the big orange thing in the sky goes away and kids n missus go to bed then I do what I do at work. Even when im not at work, I'm working!
Oaktech Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I'm a Paddlesport instructor and a freelance sound engineer.
elsiegee40 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Currently I am a school governor as voluntary work. I was a girl guide leader for a long time. Other than that birdwatching and wildlife (about to conduct a Water Vole Survey (< More volunteers needed across the country) We also watch lots of sport ... particularly football (Luton and Arsenal) and Rugby Union (Barbarians and Harlequins)
localzuk Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I'm a geek through and through. I play video games. I program software. I build/paint/play Warhammer 40k. I argue on the internet. And most important of all: I sleep. A lot.
mthomas08 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 What I do, is based upon weather and money status. If Sunshine: Beach, parks, beer gardens and generally out door plus holidays (which tends to have more sunshine). Night life: Although severely cut down from the clubs, bars and pubs lately now it's the occasional Friday night out to bars/pubs. Watch football which takes up a lot of time, brings stress and happy times.. bit like work. Also watch F1. I still play games occasionally, ones that last more than a night. People who get to know me tend to call me the "non stereo typical techie" which I take as a compliment and an insult to my job.... Have been pondering a new hobby and it could be hitting the gym but not sure....
HarryMonkey Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I was, until recently, a scuba instructor. Now I just like to spend time with my new partner. However, when she's at work ... I have recently found an interest in photography. If I'm feeling energetic I'll go for a run or a bike ride or go to the gym. I'm a season ticket holder at Leicester City so spend every other weekend (ish) watching the footy. I was once part of a team that set a new guinness record for playing dominos underwater. When I'm not doing any of the above, you can generally find me asleep.
teejay Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Volunteer at a Foodbank and with some other projects that have grown from it. I used to be Bowman class in archery for both Recurve and Longbow, but I've had to retire from it due to a wrist injury. May go back to it next year but will see. Over the winter months I got back into scale modelling which I haven't done for donkeys years, really enjoying it. I'm also dabbling with doing a bit of drawing and painting but really rubbish at it so far but seeing some progress. Have to say I've really lost interest in computers and technology outside of work, I don't even have a PC any more, just an iPad which does what I need.
CAM Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I used to volunteer as a track worker at Bluebell Railway for almost two years before I had to quit due to fitness and commute problems. Now I am doing weights in the hope of one day being fit enough to return to it.
Mark182 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I used to run a football team and coach disability sports, I spend time with my kids, football and road bike as much as I can.
Domo Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 play video games as soon as i get home... Have booked to go airsofting on Sunday though, never been before, hopefully it's good as i might take it up as a hobby
unixman_again Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Pump the iron in the gym, ride my bike and take regular ballet classes. There are a couple of shows a year that I get to dance in; even though I'm rubbish, it is great fun.

hallb15 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I've just got a Sinclair C5 to tinker with and hopefully use for travelling to work. Needs a bit of TLC after being stored for over 10 years, but it works! Other than that, my family takes up the rest of my 'spare' time. 3

JB7 Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Some great responses so far lets keep them coming, who knew we were all so diverse !?
clockend25 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Waste a lot of money following The Arsenal, but otherwise my at-home downtime is most spent playing guitar. I'm trying to get back into doing some meaningful regular exercise, and will be playing cricket again for a club side this summer.
