Hi All, I’ll be going through in order everyone who messaged me this week. The project got delayed due to our new build hospital, but we now have the first batch of switches out and ready to donate!

I am currently working for an org where we are removing our Meraki infrastructure. Nothing is set in stone yet as I need to check all the politics involved, but we are looking into donating our old switches, and later, wireless. I’m just using this to gauge interest, below will be the requirements and terms for anyone interested: -Name of school/charity -Location -Current switching infrastructure -How the switches would benefit your school/charity On top of the above, anywhere potentially selected would need to confirm all correspondence from their organisational email address, and have approval from the business manager or headteacher. The equipment would be donated on an as is basis, a document would have to be signed saying they will not be sold on for profit, that no warranty or support is implied or given, and that they will be disposed of correctly come their EoL. A license will be required for each device, but I believe Cisco offer very good rates for non-profits. At the moment our inventory is over 350 switches. Batches should become available between May and Dec this year. All switches are MS120 series, currently still on sale and in support. The majority are 48 port PoE, with some 24 port PoE, and some 8 port PoE. We will also have MR44 access points become available this year, but we do not yet have dates for these. We are located in the North West. Any potential interest please let me know below, along with how many devices you would need. If there’s enough interest, I can take this back to management and hopefully make this works. Cheers

Not a great deal of help, but we went from osticket to manage engine service desk (which is free) and the exe just runs a does everything for you, so if you need to get up quick it’s worth a look https://www.manageengine.com/products/service-desk/free-it-help-desk-software.html Also freshdesk can pretty much do wha osticket does, except its cloud based and again, the basic one is free.

What did you use to clone it?

Could try a Unifi switch and swap the fans. Someone on here did a write up, but I cant find it. You replace the internal fans with Noctua ones and apparently it's meant to be a hell of a lot quieter.

We use Foldr here, works well and support is good, cost isn't substantial either. As mentioned HAP+ support is limited (it is free after all), but it is good, not sure if it has been discontinued though?

What's their intended purpose? Chromebooks are pretty good to be honest, but it depends whether it's a high school or primary and how they will be used. Lightspeed is good for managing iPads, can't really speak for Android.

You could probably get the same effect with o365 providing the can embed powerpoints (never tried on o365 so can't say). If so, free cloud solution!

One that's worked for me in the past is to try inprivate browsing, if it works, it shows that something is corrupt/not right with cached settings/cookies/etc and we often found clearing IE settings would resolve the issue.

Manufacturers really need to do something about this, even in the BIOS would be nice, just anything! Thanks for the tip though, see if there's anything similar on our Stone laptops, happens regular with these.

I used the free version of Risevision and linked it to a Google Slides doc that the staff update. Implemented it in September, had one call out since and that was because somebody unplugged it. Effortless, incredibly easy to manage and as it's a Google slides doc to be edited, staff find it a breeze to do what they want with.

I liked my MacBook, great for home use, but when it comes to enterprise and networking, that's where they fall.

Quite the opposite, once found a computer with nothing inside, one of the little darlings had taken the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and HDD. They kindly left the cumbersome case and PSU, which was nice of them.
