Unfortunately the type of people who drive Peugeots wouldn't have seen that part of the programme (or indeed any of Top Gear for that matter).

I thought he was meant to be a journalist, possibly an entertainer but a comedian? He is undeniably opinionated on many subjects and shares his opinions widely with the public through his newspaper columns, books and TV appearances. I think it is only right then, that people are allowed to share their opinion of him and for licence payers, that opinion may be to object to licence funds being used to swell his already engorged pay packet. The "Don't like it, don't watch it" is too narrow a response for public service broadcasting. Next we will be told we "get the Top Gear we deserve". Personally I think Clarkson is a kind of caricature of himself. He was an accomplished journalist who made clever use of language to speak simply and effectively to people about cars (and sometimes other issues). Over the years though, he has allowed the language to become the message and that has sadly left the content rather hollow. 2
mthomas08 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Lets face it, Top Gear is a big program for the BBC. And Top Gear will not be the same without him. This is my attitude towards it. We don't know the full facts which doesn't help the situation, if he did hit some one over something silly then he should be punished for it to the extent of the law. The law which frankly doesn't take a harsh approach on assault, I know plenty of people who got involved in fights and got a slapped wrist back to work next day. I don't think the BBC Fully realizes how popular he is, he is what I class as a normal old fashioned Brit. Doesn't take too much crap, says it how it is, isn't purposely setting out to be evil with what he says but is arrogant. He is an idiot though but again who isn't, who hasn't made a ton of mistakes, who hasn't hit out at people (either verbally or physically) over nothing. The world is quick to forgive serious crimes but for little things it goes mental.

Best part was a week after that episode seeing a Peugeot driver pottering around my town with the GPS stuck to the windscreen right in front of their face. 2

A pensioner shouting "POWEERRRRR" at a camera isn't one of them I think somebody with the reach Clarkson has normalising the "I'm in a car so I should be able to drive as fast as I like, where I like - get out of my way" attitude doesn't help though. Along with the demonising of anybody not in a (preferably expensive) car - he's a godsend to the car industry. 1

For all we know the producer could have insulted Clarkson's wife or children, in which case I would do the same thing. Though obviously I'm speculating, as you say we have no evidence of what actually happened. What nonsense. He's an adult, working for a large corporation. There, quite frankly, is only one situation where he would be justified using violence - self defence. Someone insults you? Deal with it like an adult, don't just start punching people. We have police to deal with such things, if its really that important (insulting language or behaviour within earshot of someone likely to be alarmed, harassed or distressed by it is an offence under Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1994). Take it to the guy's boss. Whatever, don't punch people. 3

Personally, I'm fed-up with paying a salary to a middle-aged man with the all the maturity, propriety and sense of humour of a Year 9 student. FWIW Top Gear = very funny comedy (men behaving badly-in cars). If JC did resort to violence then theres no doubt he should go, it won't be the same without him though.
