In 2012, BBC Worldwide paid £8.4 million for Clarkson’s stake in a joint venture which had owned the commercial rights to Top Gear. Clarkson had received dividends - £4.86 million in 2012 - as a co-owner of the company, Bedder 6. Under the terms of the new contract, Clarkson now receives a seven-figure fee from BBC Worldwide and the corporation owns the rights to the Top Gear format, name and intellectual property. The change will mean the corporation is free to continue the show in the event of his future departure, but questions remain over whether it would be able to sustain comparable interest with a change of presenter. Following other scandals involving Clarkson, it has been reported that the BBC would face awarding him two separate pay-offs if he was compelled to leave. The presenter is paid around £1 million a year to present the BBC Two motoring show. He also has a second seven-figure contract with BBC Worldwide until September 2015. You are almost always better off looking on the Internet or in magazines.

Some people don't get Clarkson, I think he does a very good job and clearly is entertaining and a very good money earner. The same kind of loathing does not rub off on Chris evans and he got away with far more. Has Chris Evans ever been accused of throwing punches at work colleges? Would the BBC be "dumb" if the circumstances described were found to be accurate? To be honest he would do much better without being held back by the BBC. But the BBC productions do have a good budget and are still good. I personally an not inclined to get the pitchforks out for a slope on a bridge gag, So what about violence at work, would you get the pitchforks out for that?

I love Top Gear, but when it comes down to it, it is only an entertainment show. There's plenty of people who would be able to take over, even without affecting the format - they'd just have to choose carefully! Also, Top Gear is not really a car show. Its almost a comedy, but with cars as props. Actual car shows are incredibly boring! 1

Unfortunately, this might just be the nail in his coffin they've been looking for. Personally, I like Jeremy Clarkson and find him very entertaining. It's a shame he feels the need to be quite so controversial at times though - he can be very funny without it, and the controversy only gives people a good excuse to knock him.

Well innocent until proven guilty and all that, but the accusation seems to be that he threw a punch (not that the punch connected) and with such an accusation, the BBC is surely obliged to suspend him pending an investigation?

abillybob Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I personally am truly gutted he's gone. I'm a huge fan of Top Gear and Jeremy is my fave. He does say things that maybe he shouldn't but I like him he just speaks his own mind without influence of what's politically correct and thank god someone still has the boll**** to do so, Jonathan Ross was much the same though and all he did was move to ITV. I know that Richard and James are very close with him also, I don't think they'd be happy with his departure from the show. If he goes I think it will be difficult to replace him and keep Top Gears fan base, one of the main reasons it's one of BBC most profitable shows is because of him and the controversy he can sometimes stir in the media. Nothing is set in stone yet, we don't know whether he punched a producer, if he did then no doubt he should be sacked though I'll still be sad to see him go. If the show was just all about your latest £10,000 hatchback it would be incredibly boring, I like their challenges, I like to see the Stig rip round in the next £100,000 super car, if what you're looking for is a review on a car you're about to buy go watch CarBuyer. Bottom line is I won't watch it without Clarkson.

witch Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I used to enjoy the show when they looked at a wide range of cars and also did some joking around. I loved the ongoing Toyota HiLux stuff. But then we got all that tedious "competition in a foreign place where we can act like idiots" which was a complete waste of time - endless repetition of the same "will he get there before me" and "which bit of the car will fall off first" stuff. Boring 4
