  1. Hi all, I've recently taken on a nix box (RHEL 7) and need to configure a script that I can assign to a cronjob to update the time within an XML file. The date/time needs appending within fields on a couple of occasions but I'm at a loss as everything I have tried has failed
  2. Hi all, I'm looking to allow access for a couple of apps through our Sophos box. I've allowed ports 443, 80 and 3389. When you go to the /RDweb URL, all works well. However when you go to launch an app, the RDP console opens and fails to initiate the connection. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I may have missed? I assume it will be a port or an IPS function enabled somewhere!
  3. Sorry to jump on this post, does anyone have a good guide for setting up an RDS server? I'm after setting up SIMS for our trust leaders to be able to work remotely but haven't looked at this before!
  4. Sorry to dig up an old post, I've recently deployed 1909 and having a nightmare getting rid of the default apps. I've created the Powershell script and added it to my task sequence for deploying my reference image (as I want to do this at the time of installing windows rather than making another new reference image) and it just doesn't seem to be working! I've added the run powershell script within the state restore section of my task sequence, would that be correct?
  5. I didn't do it in the end! I thought I'd try and opt to setup password sets via O365 dirsync instead and that didn't work either. Was just really a case to save me getting emails to manually reset passwords but so far no luck, sorry
  6. Hi all, I'm looking to configure and enable LDAPS on my domain controllers, purely to save me the constant phone calls during holiday times by allowing self-service password resets via Foldr. I'm looking to enable it within an existing domain which has been running for around 2/3 years without LDAPS being enabled. Is there anything I should do before hand/ be prepared for? As you can probably tell this is something I haven't enabled previously, so I'm treading carefully!
  7. If you have an onsite firewall I would do it through that. For example, I'd have all VLANs going through my L3 switch and then at my Sophos XG box, I would have VOIP VLAN go through Interface X (which would be connected to the other router). Hope this helps.
  8. Apologies, I may be taking this thread on a wild tangent but based on the information above I have a query about the legality of certain information disclosures of special category data. I work for a local authority maintained school and have to sort through an abundance of paperwork and files etc. which should be dealt with by those above my pay grade (that's an argument for another day!). Upon going through some HR spreadsheets, sent through from our LA HR & Payroll department, there was information regarding salaries and deductions. I was quite dumbfounded to see that the deductions information clearly informed of those staff in a union, which union and how much they paid to their union. Is this legally allowed? Upon signing up to a union, I did so in confidence and privacy due to issues in the workplace and noticed a change in behaviour within our SMT as soon as my next payday came along - the reasons for which are now blatant. Is this something that can be/ should be disclosed by the payroll department?
  9. Hi everyone, In Summer one of my schools is having a complete IT overhaul - new servers, Server 2019 and Win 10 upgrades across the board. They currently use Google for email, but would like it so that their documents sync with Google Drive and the shared areas do the same (such as Staff shared etc). Is this something that is (a) possible and (b) something that anyone has done and can give pointers in achieving? Or, © am I wasting my time?!
  10. I had a complete setup around 6 months ago but then some machines started blue screening a day or two after imaging and never got round to looking at it, so just left all the hosts on 7. But hoping to move over to 10 this Summer. I'm going to hopefully have a play this week and put 1903 in and see if it works Fortunately we use folder redirection so that section is already ticked! It was just the OU issue and naming convention that was causing a problem along with some of the apps reappearing after they'd been removed.
  11. Sorry, meant task sequence!
  12. Would anyone mind showing their boot sequence? Currently I just use WDS and have a naming convention which is consistent throughout school and from what I can see MDT won't let me use the same naming convention. I've also had issues with the end result being a PC left logged on that hasn't rebooted or GPupdated, so it's needed manual intervention to get the host into a user ready state. I've also not yet found a way of putting newly imaged hosts into a specific AD OU.
  13. Hi, I've just started helping a Lancashire school and they've just paid for a new website. We now have the issue of trying to update the DNS records but BTLS aren't responding to any of the emails they've been sent. Can anyone point me in the right direction of who I need to contact or where I need to go to get this sorted? Many thanks
  14. Apologies for the delay in replying, at one school we use a suite and another we use a set of laptops. The test arrangements will be interesting though as the smaller school only has a bank of 15 laptops!
  15. Works fine for us (at two schools with different internet/ filtering solutions). I believe the results side is due to open in July, and one of the children told me they got a results screen when they completed it but had closed it by the times I went to have a look; slightly dubious none of the others said they got any results! Completely off-topic, but if you want to recommend a cheap subscription for practicing times tables using a format which is extremely similar to this system, check out TimesTables Rockstars. Pupils are raving about it in our school! Free alternative would be something like https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check slightly different layout though.
  16. It would be to link to evidence - such as a video of a child reading.
  17. Hi all, Our ICT Co-ord has been asked by SLT to implement/ start using a QR code based learning journey for some aspects of evidence based marking (so not everythng). Basically we've looked at the systems like see-saw but due this not being our primary submission/ marking platform, school aren't willing to pay the £1500 a year. Does anyone know of a system that works in a similar way? We've contemplated uploading content to the website and creating a QR code, but for obvious reasons this is a struggle due to some children not having photo consent for the website/ social media so being locked down/ user account specific would be great. It would be even better if it was self-sufficient and quick/ easy for the teachers too, as uploading content to the website, for example, is a faff for them to do.
  18. Hi everyone, I've been tasked with finding the best way of creating a shared staff calendar adding everyone who is part of a distribution group (preferably automatically adding new staff who are added to the distribution group too). We're after the calendar being added to their account with minimal user input required (to ensure they have access) as our previous roll outs have required links being clicked once the calendar has been shared. Does anyone have any recommendations? TIA
  19. We use a Sophos XG box. Price is extremely competitive and can integrate with endpoint and cloud security services (such as Office 365 email/ Azure protection). We've used a number of other products in the past including SonicWALL and the Sophos is cheaper, offers better reporting built in and offers more features. The cost of hardware and license costs (for the Sophos XG) over 3 years is still cheaper than we were quoted just for the tin for a new SonicWall. In terms of our broadband, we pay for Virgin education lines and a cheap BT backup line (in the event that the Virgin goes down). The new BT service even offers extra fail over via 4G (so you'd have 3 layers of failover!).
  20. So in usual July-style, I've had a teacher come to me with a bitlocker encrypted USB drive containing a full completed set of reports where the documents have vanished. I have run several recovery programs including OnTrack Easy Recovery, Recuva, M3 Bitlocker recovery, OfficeRecovery and several others over the past 24 hours without any luck. All of them find the files and know they are Word docs, however upon opening, they simply just look like random characters. The Word repair programs just error out with 'invalid file' or 'part of the document is missing or damaged'. The Word open and repair also does the same. Can anyone be our saving grace and recommend a really good recovery software that I can either run on the drive or the files to give her some hope? (The reports were due in last Friday, so I think panic has definitely set in now! I have explained that the likelihood of having lost the reports is 99% now).
  21. Ace, thanks for your replies I think I'm going to roll out LTSB (as it's already setup and working) to the office for testing before summer's mass roll-out.
  22. Hi everyone, So from the number of Win 10 threads around I gather most schools have (or started to migrate) to Win 10. I have recently tested LTSB, but was wondering what the consensus was for which version to push out? Does anyone have or would like to recommend a good guide for deploying Win 10 through WDS/ MDT? TIA
  23. By any chance could someone post a screenshot of their Sophos DNS entries for YouTube/ Google? I have tried adding a wildcard but for some reason my XG isn't liking it!
  24. Sorry to drag up an old post - did you end up doing anything about the YouTube restrictions? We're getting numerous complaints about how many videos are being blocked by the YouTube SafeSearch function but not sure if it's worth us disabling on the XG and going down the DNS route instead?
