In order for us to continue to raise the profile of technicians and help them receive the recognition they deserve, it is important to better understand the challenges technicians face in their roles, to identify areas in which they need better support and ultimately use that information to shape the assistance and resources we and our associates provide. I do quite like going away on holiday, except for the 50% of the time when there is nothing to do. I suppose its my own fault for booking half-bored.

Speaking of peregrines, last Thursday evening me and my better half were eating our tea when we heard something in the rear garden. On glancing through the kitchen window there was a hawk sitting on a dead, (well I hope it was), pigeon spreading feathers all over the lawn. As it seemed to be enjoying its meal we left it to it while we finished our own meal. Afterwards I had the pleasant job of clearing the mess from the lawn, only feathers and the head was left, it must have taken the carcass with it. Frogs are out early this year. Out walking the dog yesterday and almost trod on one crossing the path. Then yesterday afternoon I was in the garage cleaning my bike and turned around to find a big green frog sat in the middle of the floor watching me. Scooped it up and put it back outside where it promptly hopped off back into the undergrowth.

We have done away with 90% of VOIP phones, teachers are expected to use skype (headsets provided for each staff member) or email. Though if the computer is not working they would need to ask the teacher next door or send a student to the helpdesk, so no system is perfect!

I seem to have several frogs living in my garden these days, (definitely frogs not toads even though there is no water nearby). During the recent heatwave I took to watering their known hiding places whilst out watering the plants. Mrs TK gave me some funny looks when I remarked that I was "just popping out to water the frogs dear"

Upgrade SSD's first for most rooms, however, if your using Adobe Photoshop (CC 2018 and newer) then 8Gb RAM is essential we have found. With only 4Gb RAM we are always getting insufficient memory errors with Photoshop, everything else seems fine with 4Gb but photoshop will only run smoothly with 8Gb. Then again some of our students do seem to use some huge high res images so it may only apply to our college.

Just forward the emails to SLT explaining that the lack of budget is impacting on teaching and learning and that £XX amount for upgrade to RAM/SSD would be extremely beneficial. As others have said, without spending some money there is very little else can be done to improve overall performance.

Sad day for me (having worked on Tornado's for 15yrs of my RAF career). I remember when they came in to service and were regarded as "new fangled swing wing things".

For trunking up to 40mm I just use a pair of garden secateurs. Need to keep it razor sharp though to avoid squashing the trunking too much.

I tell Mrs Techykev that its the same with sneezes from the other end - never hold back a f**t!
