We ended up downloading a separate license package that we install after the DC package. Worked OK for several months but have since started getting issues with the licenses expiring!!! To get over this we have created and downloaded a second license package, annoying that nowhere on the Adobe site is there any mention that the license expires every so often (even though its not due for renewal) though it certainly seems to be the case with our installs.

My previous workplace was CC4.3 (Win 7) and both the IT team and Premises team used Fast User Switcher, simply copy the .exe to the C Drive and a shortcut placed on the default desktop. Don't believe you can do it from the RMMC policies if I remember correctly but never had much issue using FUS for the odd one or two PC's with only a few people accessing them. Download Fast User Switch v0.1 (freeware) - AfterDawn: Software downloads

I'm afraid that we don't use SSO for Moodle so cannot answer your question, sorry!

Our Moodle is a bit out of date (Moodle2) but yes we can create "just" a Moodle user by going through Site Administration\Users\Accounts\Add a new user and then selecting "choose the authentication method" as a "Manual account", this is not checked against AD when the user logs in.

I have come across the WIMGAPI build error many times over the last 8-9 years and nine times out of ten it is the partitioning/formatting on the HDD. Once it was found to be a faulty RAM module and a couple of times it was faulty intermittent NIC/network issues. I think that a couple of occasions it was caused by the Server awaiting a reboot after updates too.

Hi, Are they SB680 boards? If you've tried different boards and different cables/PC's then have you tried the board after removing the two mounting screws at the bottom of the board? I have seen issues in the past by these screws earthing the board to the wall where there is (usually) foil backed insulation inside the wall. If this is your problem then the answer is to wrap the screws/mounts with insulation tape to isolate the metal screws from the metal mountings, the newer boards are now shipped with plastic "grommets" to prevent this.

Yes the latest version you can activate using the board Ser Number is Dec 2013, V11.4 Any version after this date requires you to purchase a license from Smart. You can use the later drivers & Smart ink with the older Notebook software though, just need to uninstall the old drivers first and download the later ones (found I had to do this to fix some issues with Smart ink & Powerpoint slideshows at my last place of work).

Decent screen mirroring software?

previous school used RM Tutor but my current college uses Netop Vision for this: https://www.netop.com/edu.htm -
Hi Mimi, Just last week I was using one these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01NCO7L6B/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for tracing back sockets to various cabinets and noticed that if the sender is selected to Scan and plugged into a "live" socket (that is connected to a switch) you get LEDs pulsing on the data lines. If the socket is not connected to a switch then the LED's remain off. Quality is not up to Fluke standards, but for £20 it works really well for a lot less money than the big brand testers but for what you need it for it should be ideal.

I think you may have been just unlucky, I have replaced a couple of dozen laptop HDD's with SSD's and so far never had a bios battery go. Like you say, a massive improvement - 5 year old dual core laptops fitted with SSD's now boot faster than the (almost) new i5's with normal HDD's.

Thanks for trying guys but the camera is going to the recyclers, eventually found out after much google-Fu that this particular model cannot be made to work in Win 7 without a hardware upgrade. Could still be used with a standalone XP laptop I suppose but I have convinced Science Dept that they need something a bit more up to date.

I take it you have checked the corona wire cleaner (green tab, see link) is pushed all the way to one side in the "parked" position as I have seen this also cause a similar result. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/706769/Brother-Hl-4140cn.html?page=94#manual

This can happen if the laser "window" get some carp on it (blocking the laser light onto the drum). Have you cleaned the laser windows: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/678411/Brother-Hl-4140cn.html?page=18#manual

Don't want to be a pain but I've just had our science dept dump one of these digiflex 150 USB Cameras on my desk for me to "get it working" along with a CD with only Win XP drivers on. Needless to say they don't seem to work on Win 7 x64bit and no matter how hard I google I just keep coming up with dead links and this thread! If anyone has any Win 7 compatible drivers would you mind sharing again please as all the links above have expired? Many thanks in anticipation!

Does anyone know of a company who will collect old kit for free?
Techykev replied to L3OUGH's topic in Green Computing
I emailed PRM (our normal recyclers) to arrange a collection for a van load of old kit and they emailed back saying they had to charge us £40 plus VAT for collecting 2 CRT TV sets, so I tried LCWS instead who were happy to take the lot for free so booked them then and there. Told PRM that due to tight budgets I was obligated to find the best deal for the college and that this time around we would be using someone else, ten minutes later they replied as we were a "regular" and had such a large amount to collect that they would waive the fee this time. "Too late" said I. When will companies learn that schools and colleges need to scrimp and save every penny these days! -
I normally use AV Partsmaster : https://www.avpartsmaster.co.uk/LampSelector.aspx?ManufacturerID=104&ProductID=29525 You can choose between original, original lamp with 3rd party housing or completely 3rd party.

Software to make a video for the staff
Techykev replied to genesis's topic in Learning Network Manager
Active presenter free edition should do all that you need. You will need a mic to record sound if your laptop doesn't have one fitted. https://atomisystems.com/activepresenter/free-edition/ PS no time limit, no watermark, just does what it says on the tin! -
What is the process behind RM profile reset on CC4?
Techykev replied to andyturpie's topic in Windows
Not sure I understand how it is a "tedious task" using the RMMC? Surely this is where CC4 RMMC comes into its own, the students must be logged off, in the RMMC expand the Users, select Students, Ctrl +A to select all accounts then click Tasks, Users, Reset Profile and voila 5 minutes later and all 1600 student accounts are reset in AD. Next time the students log on they will download a clean default profile. Snoochieboochies way will not work, it will take considerable time and effort to manually delete each profile and deleting just the local profile from the PC will mean next time the student tries to log on they will get the "User profile cannot be loaded" error. You also have to delete the registry key in the profile list, I will dig out the registry path if you need me to. -
At the moment we are still burning to DVD using ConvertXtoDVD software. It would be great if the exam boards accepted MP4 files but when we queried this with Edexcel two years ago they still wanted DVD playable discs.

We have tried several free versions in the past but none were really satisfactory for SEN. We now use Read & write gold, also have 4laptops with Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Yep, seen this with all our Kyoceras. We have about two dozen (mixture of fs c5150's and the newer 6021's) and it has happened to all of them, I get called to unjam one about once or twice each month. We also use third party toners and I suspect this may be the reason, we also have two 6026 models that are physically identical and these are about 6 months old under contract and only have genuine toners installed, neither have jammed so far. Not conclusive proof but does seem to suggest that the toners are to blame. Still the third party toners are cheap and fixing the jams is pretty quick after you have done it several times.

Our Makerbot 3D printer is kept and operated in the D&T workshop which adjoins the classrooms along with the Laser cutter, welding kit, air compressor stuff, etc. Noise-wise its hardly much noisier than a photocopier, less of a fire risk than the laser cutter or welding kit, doesn't give off any noxious fumes and no special measures required for the plastic waste as far as I am aware. Normally its the responsibility of the D&T technician to look after it. During open evenings, etc, its usually put out on display in the Sports Hall or somewhere doing demo's for parents and visitors. So long as you are sensible with it and it is kept under some supervision while in use there shouldn't be any need for any special measures as far as I know.

What a bummer LOL:getmecoat: -
One of our teachers had this issue on Tuesday afternoon, thought it was the PC at the time and found a work around for it was to switch to Classic View. Then yesterday it got serious as several more staff started reporting it and after racking my brains trying to work out why it only affected certain staff on certain PC's but not others on the same PC or the same staff on a different PC (which effectively ruled out both the user profile and the PC's!!), it affected some staff on IE but not Chrome and some on both Chrome and IE. Figured it out by accident after clicking on the restore down button and it fixed it, then checked the zoom levels on both IE and Chrome which has sorted the problem.
