I read the article and wondered if it meant that people were just posting less status updates and check-ins. Social media gets a bad press these days but I still frequently use it for all the nerdy groups and pages I'm in (fellow owners of my car, old maps, bridge of the day, brick collecting and so on). It's far superior than having lots of different forums and the hassle of registering and signing into each one, and no doubt heavily contributed to the almost death of forums. I think if you stay away from politics, religion and the local busybody groups, it's still a perfectly good (and free) platform.

I keep ours for two years after they've left. Should be long enough for them to lodge any appeal about a final grade. I 7ZIP the year group and archive off the main file server so its not still being backed up.

Any movement on the salary? I'm just down the road in Southport with years of IT management, but that salary isn't great. I suppose it would be ok for a tech moving into their first NM post. But an extra £5k would get them some top notch candidates.

Just a heads up for anyone who uses the free Solarwinds User Import Tool for creating new starters. For the past few weeks there's been an issue with the software crashing on start-up. As of yet there's no fix. And then to add insult to injury the police churn out the "civil matter" rubbish. Its only when they're named and shamed there's action. Round my way someone's car was hit by an uninsured hit and run driver. Despite having dashcam footage the police said "civil matter, go through your insurance". I'm pretty sure that there's at least two laws being broken there.....

Saddened to see the judgemental posts on here. There are sometimes legitimate reasons why older OSes need to be run and it doesn't necessarily mean they're being used in a commercial or educational environment. I do vehicle diagnostics and the software used only works on 32 bit Windows XP or 7.

Hello all I've just retired our old VLE IIS webserver and replaced it with one running Apache I've got our external domain name redirecting to the web server. But in the browser address bar it shows the server name rather than the www. domain, and it can't be accessed outside school. I've changed the servername and serveralias entries in the httpd-vhosts.conf file as per this article https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/vhosts/examples.html and added the address in the Windows hosts file but I think I'm still missing something. I know the answer is on the web but I just can't get my search wording right to find the right article! TIA

Hi, Could anyone share with me what TLS settings they have enabled / disabled in group policy? For some reason I'm struggling to access the Adobe website (but only with Chrome and IE / Edge - Firefox works fine) and I have a suspicion it might be TLS settings because I think Chrome and IE share the settings. TIA.

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm having a similar problem, but bizarrely only with one user. The user has the same privs as all others and it works absolutely fine on their office computer.

Many items are sent from a mailing house who have no provision nor care for handing "RTS" marked mail, so quite often the good deed you think you're doing is just a waste of time. It just goes straight in the recycling bin, the company who paid for the mailing house to send the letters doesn't get informed. My OH used to work for one.
