The system is back up again. I just wiped the Windows partition and re-installed. All the installed apps were on a different drive and are still there and operating. It looks like nothing more than Windows file corruption.

Nope, nothing at all. It looks like the machine will have to be wiped and everything reinstalled. I've done as much as I can at this end. If the school won't pay out for a professional support contract and I have to rely on the extent of my knowledge, Google and this very useful forum, they'll have to accept the inconvenience of the loss of a server.

OK, had no luck replacing the UPDATE.SYS file, so tried to do a repair install, but now only gets as far as this: Autochk program not found - skipping autochk

I've already run a full disk check (both CHKDSK /R and the HP management tools) - all is ok. The Google search on acpitabl.dat suggests unplugging removable drives (I have none) or to replace UPDATE.SYS in C:\windows\system32\drivers - but I'm getting ACCESS DENIED when I try and expand the original from the Windows CD.

No, a HP Proliant ML350. Just done a Google search for "hangs on acpitabl.dat" and brought back loads of results so going to check them....

Came in this morning to find one of the servers starting up. However, it doesn't get any further than the Windows logo with the little scrolling bar underneath. I've done a diagnostic of the server, hard drive, CPU and memory is all ok. I managed to get into Safe Mode, everything seemed ok, with only one entry in the event log for last night at 23:30 "unknown stop error". I then tried a LKGC (Last Known Good Configuration) which doesn't get any further than the logo. I've since tried getting into safe mode again but it doesn't go any further than acpitabl.dat. I've booted from the Windows CD and gone ito the recovery console and done a CHKDSK /R, everything was fine. Any ideas where I can go next? I was following KB article 325375 but as I can't get into safe mode can't do anything else on there.

I've got three HP 4208 Procurve switches on my network. One switch serves the south side of the school, the other the north with a switch in the middle where all the servers are located. Each switch is connected by two core fibre: SWITCH (North)-------------IT Suites (North) : : SWITCH (Server Room)------Servers : : SWITCH (South)-------------IT Suites (South) However, there is four core fibre in place to each switch cabinet. How difficult is it to configure trunking to utilise these redundant lines? I realise that you can't just plug the second core straight into the switch because of a loopback. Thanks.

I've found an old battery charger amongst a box of junk. On the back it says: OUTPUT 1.2V 550mAx2 If I'm charging 2000mAh batteries, does that mean it will put 550mA of charge into the batteries per hour, and therefore take about four hours to charge? My other regular charger (a Fujifilm / Uniross Ultra fast charger) says: OUTPUT DC6V 1000mA max Charging current: 1000mA

The file is in the usual IIS folder as detailed in my policy settings in the OP. Ie: http://server/nonet.pac The user has read access to this area, as they can view other web pages stored there.

I have a usergroup called NOPRIVS which restricts pupil usage. They only get a small number of apps and their internet is restricted to just a handful of sites, dictated in the NONET.PAC file. If the site they enter is in the list, it shows it. Otherwise it takes them to a fake proxy. However, it doesn't seem to be working. The policy settings in IE Maintenance - Connection - Auto Browser Configuration are: Automatically detect config settings- ENABLED Automatic Browser Configuration - ENABLED Interval - EVERY 0 MINUTES Auto-config URL (.INS file) - http://server:80/nonet.pac Auto-proxy URL (.JS, .JVS or .PAC file) - http://server:80/nonet.pac The location of the NONET.PAC file is on the web server, which is running ok - the only site that the pupil can see is the web server itself. Everything else comes up with "this page cannot be displayed". I don't have folder redirection set in the policy, is there anything I'm missing? There's nothing else configured in the GPO net settings that I think would cause a problem (just the home page and a couple of favourites are altered) Thanks
