  1. I've put this into "Gaming" because it will be permanently hooked up to an XBOX. I'm looking for an external hard drive for my music and DivX collection. Any recommendations from existing users? I'm looking at the Western Digital Elements 1TB and Seagate Expansions 1TB drives as they're both around £60 at the moment. I'm seeing more bad reviews about "click of death" for the Seagate drives though. Or should I go for a USB powered one?
  2. I've dug this old beast out of stores, along with the Beeb, monitor and drives: http://nwex.co.uk/temp/cnc1.jpg It all works but the cable is missing. This is the port on the side of the machine: http://nwex.co.uk/temp/cnc2.jpg But can anyone tell me which port it plugged into on the Beeb? I'm hoping it was the user port so I can use something like this: http://i5.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/ce/59/0fd0_1.JPG Thanks!
  3. In order to squeeze out that very last bit of toner from my printers I've been performing the resets whenever I'm warned that a cartridge is low or empty. I've had success with a couple of OKIs but the HP Laserjet 2550 is eluding me. I've tried the instructions here but they don't seem to work for me. Has anyone managed to do this?

  5. Facebook snubs government demands for panic button - Telegraph I think it's already said that a panic button wouldn't have done anything to save Ashleigh Hall.
  6. Reduced to £1300. Grab a bargain before the summer arrives!
  7. I need to know the make of the memory card in this camera! BBC News - Cruise photos intact after camera hauled from seabed
  8. Still got this. Now reduced to £1500, as I got my 306 and very happy with it.
  9. I'm still waiting for the service history. The previous owner, a lady, has mislaid the book with all the paperwork in. It does run beautifully though. No squeaks or rattles and the hood is watertight. The oil stains came from my previous 306! I don't know the driving history and age of you guys but I'm 36 and only pay £160 a year to insure it! I'm hopefully picking up a diesel 306 this weekend so I've reduced the price to £1750 to get it off my drive and into the hands of a loving new owner.
  10. Pics as promised: http://www.nwex.co.uk/temp/mx5/p/11.jpg http://www.nwex.co.uk/temp/mx5/p/4.jpg http://www.nwex.co.uk/temp/mx5/p/16.jpg More here.
  11. Reduced to £1800 as I've seen a car I like.
  12. Hard top now sold, I'll post some pics of it in all it's soft-top glory after I've washed it later!
  13. 1997 Mazda MX-5 Monza limited edition (only 800 made). Racing green Two former owners 122000 miles Hard top (although that's for sale on Ebay at the moment) Brand new soft top 12 months MOT, 6 months tax Spare key Mazda service manual JVC CD player Very good clean condition, everything works perfectly, and looks, drives and feels like a car half it's age or mileage. A Very reluctant sale, I simply need a larger car with more than two seats. I'll probably go for another Peugeot 306 (my fourth!) May consider a PX for a suitable 5 door diesel hatch from 1999 onwards. http://s192798389.websitehome.co.uk/files/gibbomobile.jpg http://s192798389.websitehome.co.uk/files/gibbomobile2.jpg £1900 ONO (without the hardtop)
  14. When challenges like this come along: Teacher: Can you get this operational again? Me: Oh, yes! http://s192798389.websitehome.co.uk/files/beeb.jpg This is the "after" shot.
  15. Ignore the earlier post. A couple of reboots this morning and all seems fine. In fact the PCs feel faster than before.
  16. Has anyone noticed anything untoward after installing the latest Windows updates? On our IT suites we have the machines set for the "Mystify" screen saver come on 30 seconds after the CTRL,ALT,DELETE screen first appears. Before the updates the bars in the screen saver moved quite smoothly, but now they jerk and freeze. The rest of the computer operation seems to be ok.
  17. Yep, I've got and installed them, but there doesn't seem to be an option for the "TOOLS - OPTIONS - CALCULATION" tab Incidentally, where is the best place to install them? The MS document I read said it should be installed on the user's group policy, but in another it said the computer.
  18. Is there a group policy add-in to force automatic calculations in Excel? I'm on Office 2003, the setting is in TOOLS - OPTIONS - CALCULATIONS, but I can't see a Calculations folder in Group Policy. The option is set to automatic but there are a few Excel files on the network which have been set to manual and the staff don't want to have to make the change, they want it done automatically for them.
  19. I'm not sure if this is a hardware question or an ESX one, but I've put it here because the Proliant ML110 is a cheap and popular host for ESX. I've got one of the latest models, it has four 160Gb drives in it which I'm trying to RAID 1+0. However, when I do, ESX 4 doesn't see it as one 300Gb drive. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has a similar setup and how they did it.
  20. Government promises to rebuild or refurbish almost every secondary school in England have been labelled a sham after MPs discovered one in five projects have only provided schools with new computers. Nine of the 41 BSF projects completed last year amounted to little more than installing a new computer suite rather than a full-scale rebuild or refurbishment, the Liberal Democrats have revealed. School building scheme a sham ? MPs | Education | guardian.co.uk
  21. When I log into the Volume Licensing Service Center I see a number of versions of Windows 7. The upgrades I can understand. But what's the difference between "Windows 7 Professional", "Windows 7 Professional K" and "Windows 7 Professional KN". When I click on each it says "Description currently not available".
  22. Thanks all, I got an O2 one. The dongle is half price at the moment (£14.67). You have to top it up every month, but get 3Gb for £15, as opposed to 1Gb with Vodafone.
  23. Can anyone recommend a decent package for a broadband dongle? I've just moved house and don't have any internet. I'll probably only do an hour or so a night, just to catch up on mails and forums. I'm ideally looking for PAYG as I don't want a long term contract, my landlord may put a 'net line in the house in the near future. TIA.

  25. We have about thirty iMacs, all were working when decommissioned, that we'd like to pass on to someone who could get some use from them. The entire IT suite was kitted out with them so I'm assuming that they're all the same spec. I've picked one out at random and fired it up to get the details: Machine ID: 406 Processor: PowerPC G3 Speed: 400Mhz Hard drive: 10Gb CD/DVD drive: slot loading DVD drive Memory: 128 / 256Mb (the model pictured has 512Mb) Colours: Various http://s192798389.websitehome.co.uk/ebay/mac.jpg http://s192798389.websitehome.co.uk/ebay/mac3.jpg http://s192798389.websitehome.co.uk/ebay/mac4.jpg They come with power cable, keyboard, mouse, modem cable, restore / install discs (OS9.2) and instructions. As far as they go, they're pretty good. I've put Opera and Corel Wordperfect on one and they run great. I've also got a huge collection of Mac books and software to go with it. They'd need to be collected from Cheshire, we're not far from J20 of the M6. Any interest, please PM me. SOLD
