Any idea what this error message means? Although SIMS likes to kick me out a couple of time a day as a matter of routine, the frequency of my system crashing has increased the last week or so. The other users in my office don't appear to be affected and the rest of my system seems to be running pretty quickly (thankfully my machine is OK and not something out of the ark) so I don't think it is down to system resources. I have logged a call with CAPITA who have promised to call me back when they have looked into the matter, but thought I'd have a pop at asking on here too.

Hey guys, So... I've recently explained to my boss about this piece of software that is able to view live-desktops in various computer labs (iTALC) And for the past week, I've been slowly getting through each computer, even though there is only like 25... However... The install on all of them has gone fine, without a hitch. Key files are all setup, pointing to UNC file paths on the LAN - I've tested the permissions on these, and they are working fine, so is authentication. However, when it comes to setting up the iTALC application on master computers, there is a little hitch-up which is making me want rip. my. hair. out. I can connect the computers fine to them, I can see them being interacted with, however, after about 30 minutes, the iTALC application on the master computer will crash, completely, requiring the program to be restarted. It keeps telling me that the application (ica.exe) has encountered an error and had to close... This is extremely annoying. I have tried installing this on multiple iTALC versions - 2.0 and 1.9.7 But, it is still crashing, which I find to be very weird... All the clients are running Windows XP Professional SP3 - Norton is installed on the clients, but I don't see how this could be affecting them? The master computers are all running the same except for the main server, which is running Windows Server 2008 Standard 64 bit If you guys have any Idea what could be causing this, could you please, please let me know? P.S - Would any of you know what the VPN feature of the program does, I am looking into a way that we could remote view students who are not currently in the lab but are at home doing work for their respective classes using some sort of a VPN/Terminal Server solution? Thanks, - James.

Hi folks, Windows crashes whenever I open My Documents yet when I open it from somewhere else (i.e. My Computer) it's fine. It just seems to be doing it when I open it via the start menu. Any ideas? I've tried sfc /scannow but alas I don't have the original XP disk (we're a school and they don't keep things like that...doh!) so I can't run that. J x

Hello all! I was recommended to try edugeek to sort out general issues by my Network Manager, having only just joined the education industry I knew not of it's existance before hand, but it does have a wealth of knowledge! I am encountering an issue with photoshop. If you have a networked printer set as your default printer then photoshop will stall and crash. However if you do not, it will load up fine. After talking to no less than three representatives from HP (HP Color LaserJet CP3505n) and they cannot think of anything in the line of a patch. We at MCS are looking to upgrade to CS5 in the summer, however, we would love to have a temporary work around solution. We do not encounter this with our RICOHs. Has anyone else encountered this? If so, can anyone lend a helping hand? Many Thanks! Calum.

Hi all, We experienced an issue due to the new windows update KB5006670. Symptoms were prints appearing as local downlevel documents and word/excel etc crashing when printing (funnily enough only to our Kyocera printers). mPisano over at https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/759880/kb5006670-network-printer-problems-again-this-month/page-5 posted a script and we can confirm it has sorted our issues so I thought I would make a post here in case anyone else has the same issues! You will need to get the good files from a machine in the system32 folder that hasn't got the KB5006670 update (or one that you've uninstalled it from) and host them in a centralised location, you must also add .good at the end as it won't work otherwise (speaking from experience)! We then added this script to a startup GPO, did a gpupdate /force and restarted. Hope this helps someone. @echo off REM 10.0.19041.1288 bad file comes from KB5006670 :_start copy "\\YourDomain.local\spoolerfix\win32spl.dll.good" C:\Windows\System32 /y copy "\\YourDomain.local\spoolerfix\spoolsv.exe.good" C:\Windows\System32 /y copy "\\YourDomain.local\spoolerfix\localspl.dll.good" C:\Windows\System32 /y :wmicVersion pathToBinary [variableToSaveTo] setlocal :_test_win32spl set "item1=C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll" set "item1=%item1:\=\\%" set "item2=C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll.good" set "item2=%item2:\=\\%" for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name='%item1%' get Version /format:Textvaluelist"`) do ( for /f "delims=" %%# in ("%%a") do set "%%#") set existver=%version% set version= for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name='%item2%' get Version /format:Textvaluelist"`) do ( for /f "delims=" %%# in ("%%a") do set "%%#") set goodver=%version% set version= echo %existver% echo %goodver% IF %goodver%==%existver% echo "Files are same version" && goto _test_localspl IF "%existver%"=="10.0.19041.1288" echo "Files are bad version" && goto _fix_win32spl IF NOT %goodver%==%existver% echo "Files are different version" && goto _test_localspl :_test_localspl set "item1=C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll" set "item1=%item1:\=\\%" set "item2=C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll.good" set "item2=%item2:\=\\%" for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name='%item1%' get Version /format:Textvaluelist"`) do ( for /f "delims=" %%# in ("%%a") do set "%%#") set existver=%version% set version= for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name='%item2%' get Version /format:Textvaluelist"`) do ( for /f "delims=" %%# in ("%%a") do set "%%#") set goodver=%version% set version= echo %existver% echo %goodver% IF %goodver%==%existver% echo "Files are same version" && goto _test_spoolsv IF "%existver%"=="10.0.19041.1288" echo "Files are bad version" && goto _fix_localspl IF NOT %goodver%==%existver% echo "Files are different version" && goto _test_spoolsv :_test_spoolsv set "item1=C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe" set "item1=%item1:\=\\%" set "item2=C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe.good" set "item2=%item2:\=\\%" for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name='%item1%' get Version /format:Textvaluelist"`) do ( for /f "delims=" %%# in ("%%a") do set "%%#") set existver=%version% set version= for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name='%item2%' get Version /format:Textvaluelist"`) do ( for /f "delims=" %%# in ("%%a") do set "%%#") set goodver=%version% set version= echo %existver% echo %goodver% IF %goodver%==%existver% echo "Files are same version" && goto _end IF "%existver%"=="10.0.19041.1288" echo "Files are bad version" && goto _fix_spoolsv IF NOT %goodver%==%existver% echo "Files are different version" && goto _end goto _end :_fix_win32spl net stop spooler timeout /t 3 /nobreak Takeown /A /F C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll icacls "C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll" /grant builtin\administrators:F icacls "C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll" /grant SYSTEM:F ren C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll win32spl-%existver%.dll copy C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll.good C:\Windows\System32\win32spl.dll /Y goto _test_localspl :_fix_localspl net stop spooler timeout /t 3 /nobreak Takeown /A /F C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll icacls "C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll" /grant builtin\administrators:F icacls "C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll" /grant SYSTEM:F ren C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll localspl-%existver%.dll copy C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll.good C:\Windows\System32\localspl.dll /Y goto _test_spoolsv :_fix_spoolsv net stop spooler timeout /t 3 /nobreak Takeown /A /F C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe icacls "C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe" /grant builtin\administrators:F icacls "C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe" /grant SYSTEM:F ren C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe spoolsv-%existver%.exe copy C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe.good C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe /Y goto _end :_end net start spooler exit

WE have jsut migrated all our desktops to windows 7 and SIMS worked perfectly for 2 weeks, then the other week I open sims and it crashes. What happens is I can open the login screen and when i enter my username and password and press login the splashscreen loads and then it freezes and crashes. In a normal installtion of SIMS the box for your username and password are closed, the machines with problems however keep both windows open, I have checked the event logs and nothing is logged. I managed to fix this for a while by installing .net 1.1, the problem however has now returned and all of our teachers are back tomorrow... Any help would be most welcomed! Thakns

Good morning Support, Hope you are well. I support a school that uses ActiveInspire on a daily basis, we have had terrible trouble so I downloaded the latest version, and from what I hear it made the issues even worse. The software is closing randomly, crashing not saving work. I'm using the latest version of Windows 10 and Java. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the software, deleting user accounts from computers, re-installing windows, checking drivers and I've tried opening files directly from the computer rather than a server share but nothing has worked for me. I really need a fix asap. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do next. Regards, Simon

Does anyone have any ideas? We've set up a new SIMS installation at a school with whch we're federated, and I'm trying to set up individual reports containing assessment data. The reports sometimes preview correctly, but never print, export or upload. More than 50% of the time they don't preview either. What happens is the progress bar comes up, displays "generating", then as the generation finishes and it's about to preview/print/export, I get a windows Error message "Sims.net has encountered an error and has had to close..." I've worked through the relevant checklists regarding tables and security settings and random number and all that, and I've tried to generate on three different versions of Word. I'm currently using Office 2003, and that's the only office suite that's installed. It's been most stable this way. It's a VM ware machine running Windows XP, but I've tried it on a physical machine and found the same difficulty. I've been working on this for three months now, I've missed at least two deadlines, and I'm still no nearer a solution. I could produce a mail merge with results exported from SIMS into excel and then merged into Word, but that's not going to be the best way to have the most up-to-date results and that won't upload to Linked Documents. I'm seriously struggling with this. I've been doing exactly the same thing at my usual school for the best part of four years without so much as a sniff of trouble, I just can't see what's going wrong. I maintain that the problem lies with our SIMS install, but I can't get Capita to admit to anything. Anyone ever come up against anything like this before?

Hi Everyone. Has anyone in education had any issues with Excel crashing on teacher computers that also run Smart Software? If so what were they and how did you fix them? We courrently have a strange one where Smart Board Tools are affecting the way Excel runs when you try to do formula work. It just seems to hang Excel until you shut down the tools bringing it back to life. This happens on all PCs that have both the mentioned software installed. Any ideas on a fix so they work in harmony? Many Thanks!

I've been playing Left 4 Dead 2 perfectly fine since May to June. Then went for a vacation for two months. When I came back, the computer (desktop)is still working fine. So NO problems with the computer's fan and other components overheating (Steam support and other forums mentioned this as one of the possibilities of the problem). Also, Symantec AV software has been installed also before I got Steam and the game. I am mentioning this because I've been to Steam support and other forums saying that Symantec and other AV software could make the coumputer crash. Since I've been playing it with the AV activated, I do not suppose that this is the problem, unless you prove to me otherwise. I've had this problem since my little brother arrived from his friend's house (he stayed at his friend's house for 5 days). I was able to play Left 4 Dead 2 for many hours until he used the computer. After he used it, the computer started to crash whenever I play Left 4 Dead and other games like Heroes of Newearth. However, it does not seem to crash whenever we play Counter-Strike 1.6. Another mysterious event that took place was two days ago. I've been trying to fix it on my own by re-installing Steam and Left 4 Dead 2. To my suprise, it did not crash after 3-5mins after playing the game. I played the game offline when it worked. I completely closed uTorrent when I played it online using Steam. It did not crash. At least two days ago. When I tried doing the same procedure today, however, it did not work. My brother who is graduating in IT said that I should check if there are any malwares. I checked and quaratined them. But he said the damages could be irreversible. If so, how did the game work and not make the computer crash two days ago? So anyone here who could help me? I would really appreciate it if you can give me the time and patience. I am trying to fix this as soon as possible because my copy of Dead Island is on its way.
