I just found this guide and it worked well to default the start menu to the left. There is no GPO that I could find but simply adding the registry setting to GPO works well on our default computer policy. Many of our teachers didn't even realize its a new operating system, once I changed this setting. Windows 11 move start button left via GPO - IT koehler blog (it-koehler.com)

The lack of drag and drop on taskbar, missing seconds on the clock, slow right click menus and various other bits showed it was a rushed release with big missing functionality. Saying that i've been using it as my home desktop for a while now and the next service pack looks totally awesome! I've also just found a registry hack to move the start menu to the left which works with Group Policy so rolling it out at work should also be possible now without too much fuss.

Glad to hear drag and drop on the taskbar will come back in the next version Windows 11 could finally be worth upgrading to - thanks to big taskbar update (windowslatest.com) And the new tabbed file browser (FINALLY!!!) is probably the biggest other news. Hands on with Windows 11's leaked File Explorer with tabs feature (windowslatest.com) It's actaully looking very nice now.

Thats an interesting point as everyone's migration path is different of course, but just from our experience we moved overnight to a new MIS, cashless catering and payments and parent portal and it worked pretty well. We had tested for a month prior to that to make sure all systems worked and were integrated. We moved at easter time so it wasnt too crazy other than sending out emails to parents with new portal credentials. It really helped that Bromcom has a parent portal and cashless catering payments inbuilt so there was a single system for that. Parents took it up pretty quickly as did students with their own portal.

When we looked at iSams for state (I think the pre-cursor to this) it was OK, but bromcom and arbor was a lot better in terms of functionality for our needs. It may have changed though in the last few years. They only had 16 or so schools signed up which put us off a little. Regarding the interface it wasnt great when we looked, not even responsive.

Awesome prize! To be honest I would play games on this thing -
Sounds great, you can actually now use google maps to measure as well. Very cool new feature.
-
Google maps for the original image, right click on it and select "Measure distance" where you can create waypoints to trace. Then inkscape or GIMP to trace the outlines and add floors.

We went Lithium ion a few years ago, seems to not run out like the old lead acid batteries. This is the one we have: APC Smart-UPS Lithium Ion, Short Depth 1500VA, 230V with SmartConnect - APC United Kingdom

One of the reasons we jumped ship from Sims was that I couldn't see a "Migration path" away from their legacy software. Thats why startups always win in the end, legacy companies can't just throw everything out and build something better.

This is great news, the 2 biggest weaknesses of Bromcom are its alerts system and timetabling. EDIT: oh and the room booking system HINT HINT Great to hear both a getting attention! A sign of a good quality company that listens to it's customers.
-
Join the club! We don't use them really, Bromcom is a cloud MIS and should be treated as such. We bought a third party timetabling app, but @Bromcom_Support says they are working on a cloud version hopefully.
-
Just export to CSV and archive? Why does it need to be in the new MIS?

We've moved most services over the last 5 years including: Email, Office, Sharepoint Files, Bromcom MIS, Evolve trips, Digital signage, Library system, Parents evening bookings and many more. 1) Pretty much yes. Only onsite now is our Domain controllers, smoothwall, cashless catering and print server. 2) Very well, so much better and more modern than onsite 3) Not really, budget has stayed very similar 4) No real training, transparent to the user. Although I have done some Azure technical training myself 5) Domain controllers for now, but hoping to move to Azure AD one day 6) Got rid of most of them, particularly when we moved our MIS to the cloud. 7) Nope, we have a pretty solid BT fiber line and a backup VDSL if needed that can be switched to quickly. 8) No security issues really 9) Yes we use MFA for staff but not students

As i've said before, it took us less than 6 months to research 3 different MIS's, Demo and test then once the final decision was made deploy our new MIS during the easter break. Anything more than that is just sitting on hands doing nothing. Saying that, we are an academy and the move was our choosing reacting to the remote teaching need last year.

I'd be interested in the details of how you setup as universal print looks quite good.

I finally got around to testing this and I must say its fantastic. So easy to use and just set and forget. It even has a instant backup mode which is very cool. Certainly gives me a little more peace of mind having our main Sharepoint staff file share backed up now.
-
You don't need Linked documents (Bromcom has all that integrated) and you can export from Sims and just file away somewhere for historical value. Assessment you wouldnt want to migrate, its totally different (and better) in bromcom. It takes some setting up but well worth the initial effort.

You simply send them your Sims database and they will migrate it to a "demo" test system after a few days. It's a fully working system but wont be permanent. We just used it to test and play around with under the assumption that all data is lost when we switch properly. A training database essentially but with our full data. When you get closer to to migration date, you send them your live Sims database again and they migrate it. You go live and just use the new MIS from then on. We just removed the icons for Sims from peoples desktop, leaving the server for 5 months in the background just in case. After those 5 months we ran a few reports and switched it off for good. The process was very smooth.
-
Thats one of the best things about the migration, we got to play with ours for a month before actually using it. It was really helpful and got staff familiar with it. Those staff who didnt bother couldnt complain either when the full system was switched over.
-
We had all those complaints before our move and they simply melted away on the first day. Even the most hardent office staff who are 1 year away from retirement managed the change with very little complaint. I was suprised to be fair to them, they just got on with it. a 2hr webinar training session was all it really took. The fact that the trainer had also been a Sims user really helped them with the transition.

Why would you keep FMS? So many better options out there like Sage 200, HCSS and Bromcoms own system.

Had the Newline RS+ 75" (TT-7519RS) screens installed from Very-PC yesterday and very impressed so far. Price was also excellent.

[bromcom] Anyone using Bromcom through SWGfL or similar
supportman replied to kennysarmy's topic in MIS Systems
We moved away from our SEGFL almost 10 years ago now, not sure your use case for still using it, but a standard 500mbit line from BT is about half the price Do they still require firewall changes centrally, maybe its just a port or something... -
I used these, very easy to use just 2 screws needed for each leg. Loftleg Raised Floor Loft Legs - 175mm Pack of 12 | Wickes.co.uk No special access for cables really, they are fine below insulation. Lights are important and you can use this to give them some breathing space. Its less important now people have LED lighting but still a good idea. LoftLeg Loft Lid Downlight Protector Hood | Wickes.co.uk
