  1. Never heard of that MIS but Bromcom works well. We moved from Sims to Bromcom. If its SQL based then I am sure Bromcom can offer the transfer service. If thats not possible, Why not archive the data off and setup Bromcom from scratch? We started a lot of things new so only really transfered the Student details which I'm sure could be inputted in a few days if really needed. We still have Sims archived for historical data.
  2. Yes for sure, all good points Since we already did this MIS migration, I can tell you exact times: - Timetable, Our guy used Nova T to design the timetable as it was still running, then built in Bromcom. Has since moved to timetabler.co.uk with same process - 2 days - Marksheets - 2hr webinar training and all seemed to go smoothly. Training distributed to all staff who needed it in more condensed form. - Exams - 2hr training smooth and no issues from a lady who used Sims for 10 years previously. - Linking to till - 4hrs. We paid our company Biostore to do it for us. They came in and it didn't take long to change the ID's and infact fixed a lot of problems with the old Cunninghams system - Payment systems - instant as we used Bromcoms inbuilt one. Maybe a few days to roll out the new parent portal ID's. - Teething issues are ongoing but same with any system.
  3. Absolutely, once the system is in place everyone was much happier. I was actually talking about the preperation and discussions _before_ we moved. There was a lot of worried staff and SLT. In the end, moving MIS was actually very easy. We had virtually no issues once it went live and all the discussion before seemed rather irrelevent. The first day we went live, the overwhelming feedback was how easy it was to take registers on an app, or how nice it was to be able to use it on any device finally.
  4. I want to remove our old file server now we have all user files in the cloud but that last thing that remains is the Shared Desktop Icons. Currently we use a GPO to redirect a desktop to that file server share. What the modern way to do this?
  5. Good points, I think our actual data migration took about 48hrs. The rest was just waiting for us to setup users ect. I honestly dont think its an issue. The hardest part is just getting everyone on board for the move. Its a lot less hassle actually doing the technical stuff Once the system was in place, everyone forgot how scary it was and just got on with it...
  6. Ours was about 2 weeks. We had test data for 3 weeks to play around with the system and get staff used to it. Then had a cut off date where they did another migration and we went live. Worked very well.
  7. From the CEO of Arbors post about this: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jamesweatherill_options-for-your-upcoming-3-year-sims-renewal-activity-6866344255334428672-jeAT
  8. 1.5 years Not turned it on in a while though
  9. Thats how it was for us when we left, needed to give notice by Christmas. Stopped paying in April.
  10. We use Microsoft Word to digitally sign documents, Works very well now for internal stuff and saves ALOT of paper. Insert a signature (microsoft.com) We also have both Parent and Student digital portals using Bromcom for all that kind of data stuff.
  11. Its an exciting time in the MIS market, finally there are worthy competitors and people are switching. i thought it would be useful to track all the announcements. Please post any announcements in this thread of individual schools or trusts moving MIS. I'll start: 11/Nov/2021 Academies Enterprise Trust chooses Arbor as the MIS for its 57 schools - Arbor (arbor-education.com) 10/Nov/2021 Bromcom on Twitter: "Welcome to the Bromcommunity, @MaidenErleghTru, we're delighted to have you on board! #edTech #eduTwitter #MIS #SchoolLeaders #SBLConnect #SchoolSupport https://t.co/TJdRUWTVsz" / Twitter
  12. First thing I would do is ping a perpetual ping at different points in your network to google.com. Should find out very quickly if its an intenet issue or internal. From exeperience check for loopbacks, students attacking the wifi controller, bad routers. We've had it all over the years
  13. Not really as your Sims continues to work as before, just without updates. Cancelling is relatively risk free if you know you want to move.
  14. When we tendered for 4 different systems (Sims, Bromcom, Arbour and iSams) it took about 3 months from first email to getting a new system. The quotes and demos were relatively quick from memory, we did them all in about 2 weeks. Good to keep each one fresh in the mind. Actual migration was very quick and we had a test system up and running in about 10 days from sending out Sims data off. We ran both together for 6 months after that.
  15. For those of you who are still on Sims I would question "When is the right time to move?". - I mean we've just been through a pandemic where everyone needed remote access. - Sims are tying schools into lengthy contracts - The entire world is moving to the cloud and has been for years - There are 3 competitors in the market that offer a secondary cloud MIS that is far superior to Sims in nearly every way. Primary even more so. - MATs are becoming more and more prevalent where you actually need to link school data in the cloud - It can work out cheaper to move - It reduces complexity of the network with 3rd party system integration - There is an epidemic of Remote Desktop Ransomware going on with multiple examples of complete local MIS data loss in schools. Anyone who doesnt at least look at the alternatives, is quite frankly burying their head in the sand in my opinion
  16. Looks great to me. Maybe they finally got it right this time.
  17. Ahh if there was ever a reason to move, now is it! Sounds like they are panicking already.... Companies that have good software don't need to lock people into long contracts.
  18. Secondary school. I'm actually doing a webinar next monday with Bromcom about our experience. I'm hoping to tell our story with all the successes and challenges along the way. You can read about it here: LinkedIn or direct register here Virtual Open Day
  19. 7K seems quite resonable to me, I think we paid 10k when ours was installed for the first time but worth it if you look at it long term. We had road closures and all sorts
  20. No, in your DHCP scope you will choose the start IP youself so its onwards from that.
  21. Yep you can confirm exactly with this: Online IP Subnet Calculator (subnet-calculator.com)
  22. Change the subnet to 255.255.252.0 and that will give you 1000 internal IP range to use. You will need to change it on all devices that have a static IP, but other than that its easy enough change.

I've been hearing great things about http://www.replit.com recentley from our CS teachers. Its really good value as well.
  24. Personally I would just build a new domain and transfer users over time. I did that years ago when I merged 2 domains and it worked very well.
  25. We moved from Sims >> Bromcom last year. Very succesful move overall.
