  1. There was some discussion earlier about the time it takes to "onboard" to a different MIS once purchased. Bromcom released a video about it today. Actual data migration is 3 to 5 days, but looks like its about 4 weeks currently to move complete systems with training.
  2. As long as you get in early, any pyramid scheme will be lucrative, But it will also inevitably fall apart at some point. I suspect Crypto will fall apart when the US financial regulator just gives up and bans it. Personal I started with £86 in bitcoin and its "worth" £1,100 now. I just keep it as a gamble.
  3. Doubt it. They have been very clear so far that they want to lock schools into the product and services for a long time. They know fully well lots of people are thinking about moving and are protecting their market in any way they can. This is how private equity works sadly, the only thing the company now cares about is market value and revenue streams. The customer expereince doesnt matter so much, especially when you can tie your legacy customers in for 1000+ days.
  4. What the issue here? This has been broken for months....
  5. Mosul on netflix I thought it was fantastic portrail of the war against ISIS. It shows it from the Arabic side of things and really does hit the right spot. I would call this a masterpiece of movie making, even if it was a simple story. Really tested the sound system I have as well, one of the best war movies I have seen for atmosphere.
  6. We are similar but have used both Veeam O365 and Synoilogy. Both work OK but you need to seperate your Sharepoint teams really to not have huge document libraries.
  7. Our move from Sims to Bromcom was essentially cost neutral. We removed a lot of 3rd party services which made it even better over time. Arbor even give you a spreadsheet to work out the cost difference with Sims. The cost savings were pretty plain to see if you looked at the whole system.
  8. Fine for me this morning. The documentation is a great resource.
  9. Get SLT into the demos with 3 companies including Sims, they will soon changed their minds when they see the features of other cloud MIS's.
  10. Yes, the order went in a month or so before and we got a migration manager who handled everything. It was actually about 10 days from sending them our Sims SQL file to having a working system. We spent another month or so testing it before "going live" with a 2nd migration of our Sims data.
  11. Bromcoms parent, teacher and student web portals/app are basically a drop in replacement for EduLink one. They work in the same ways including homework. We did buy a seperate parents evening system though.
  12. From the article My honest opinion is this is not as "complex" as they believe. We literally bought a new MIS system and were up and running in 2 weeks with all our Sims data. I would not call it complex at all, from a technical point of view anyway. I sent off the SQL file and that was it. From a staff perspective it was probably even easier, they had a new system to play with for a while with full Single Sign on, before just switching over one tuesday morning. There was nothing complex about our migration and we are a large high performing secondary with 10+ 3rd party tools attached to our MIS.
  13. Out of interest have you managed to install the alert app silently? If so what command line switch did you use?
  14. Thanks, built it last summer as a fun project. Great entertaining space
  15. Oh yes we already do that with Salamandersoft and teams for our entire timetable. But I would not recomend basing a file system around it. Setting assingments, chat, calendar or remote lessons works great. For file storage we have complete departments on dedicated sharepoint sites.
  16. We created sharepoint sites for each department. We use onedrive for individuals files. We only allow students to use the web to access the files. Don't use Teams or individual classes as its too much work to keep a hold of, just do it by department.
  17. Its an app they can supply if you talk to them. We got it from their support@ email for free. Worked very well and we just archived off the linked documents into addmissions number folders for each student with no intervention needed other than the user/pass for Sims.
  18. I've also had one all summer. Wood burner is the only way to go in my opinion so got a Ooni Fyra. After a few failed attempts (overdone, underdone) I got it bang on. The real key is to get a "leopard" print on the outside of the pizza crust. Keep the temps high and dont be afraid to turn it round after 30 seconds or so. Also use lots of flour and semilina to let the pizza transfer to the oven the first time. Don't chill the tomato sauce as it makes the base wet and difficult to move.
  19. A couple of things Bromcom has that Sims didnt (at least when we looked). - A2c exams integration - Office 365 user provisioning - Google or O365 Single Sign on - Student, Parent and teacher iPhone and Android apps - Groups and Clubs - Integrated cashless system - Integrated comms - Vision-X (data reporting for mutiple schools) - Desktop Alert system - Open Data API with Support for PowerBi - Staff performance management I'm sure there is a lot more but those ones come to mind.
  20. No real issues, we exported all linked documents from Sims with Salamanders free export tool and started assessment from scratch as Bromcom has some nice improvements in that area.
  21. We migrated a single school from Sims to Bromcom, it was very easy and no real technical issues. Setting up 3rd party software was also pretty smooth going as Bromcom supports both Wonde and Groupcall API's.
  22. For anyone thinking of moving MIS, the end of the acadamic year is a not a great idea Make sure you plan any move in the middle of the year, its much easier and far less stress.
  23. Not to mention the costs or running servers and SQL for the next 3 years in some kind of hybrid solution. Glad we moved!
  24. Very useful info... So they are not promising a new cloud based product "Sims NextGen" for AT LEAST 3 more years??? I wonder if they are ditching all the previous work on Sims 8 and starting again?
  25. Yes just redirection. Dropping them into NETLOGON is a nice idea actually as I don't see us getting rid of the DC's anytime soon. That still restricts the icons being shown when teachers take their laptops home though.
