[bromcom] Bromcom performance issues at peak times
supportman replied to ultimatepie's topic in MIS Systems
Yeh no real issues for us at the moment as far as I know. I do think the code could be made more efficient especially on long list loading. -
[bromcom] How have you deployed eTimetabler to domain machines.
supportman replied to Jaan's topic in MIS Systems
We gave up with the Bromcom timetable solution as it seemed very old fashioned with the installer and way it runs. They mentioned that they are working on a new system that should be cloud based though. We ended up getting Keith Johnsons timetable software instead. - - - Updated - - - Here is the existing thread about it http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/221840-new-mis-timetabling.html- 1 reply

[bromcom] Bromcom performance issues at peak times
supportman replied to ultimatepie's topic in MIS Systems
We had a call open for attendance performance issues when we first got the MIS and it was marked as resolved with some more efficient code. They use Azure I think so should be able to scale quickly for any performance issues. I'd suggest reporting it and the exact page you are accessing on their support system. They seemed responsive for us. For info @DanSears are you scaling up the backend as you get more customers? -

We use Office 365 Single Sign on for virtually everything here. I've set Azure to notify me if someone requests to connect from a new platform and authorize in Azure as necessary. That gives me a list of all the 3rd party sites using the login info and we can disable or restrict if needed. Not that we ever has as it seems quite secure. Works well so far.

Just needs a new wifi card really, and yes backwards compatible.
-
Yeh I found the same thing but to be honest its all about a cloud future so I won't be spending any time with local server training any more. I'm personally just going through the Azure steps.
-
We have it here site wide, not really noticed the difference to be honest.

Kingston SSDs are known for this, they are so cheap and poor quality. Buy a good brand like Samsung or Intel and you simply don't get that issue. In answer to the question, Crystaldiskinfo

Options for LA schools moving away from SIMS? Questions...
supportman replied to Japtastic's topic in MIS Systems
We are an academy but still quite close to the LEA as well, we recently moved from Sims to Bromcom. - The full current on roll Sims database + 5 years of historical records should be migrated as part of the onboarding procedure. Linked documents are not migrated but we archived them onto a fileshare using a free salamander tool. - No issues, CTFs work as before in Sims as does the census (in fact the census is refreshingly easy compared to Sims). - Shouldn't be too much at all. They are separate products. - Loads of other little issues but on the whole our migration was pretty much painless and having a modern cloud MIS has helped the school a lot. Sims is now a distant memory and I feel sorry for anyone who still has to deal with its legacy product. -
Bromcom did a good webinar of the new Office 365 Sync features. It might be worth seeing if they have a recording or are going to do another one.
-
Salamandersoft can do local Active Directory sync as well as Office 365. Bromcom can only do a sync with Azure so isnt really useful until you go completely Office 365 native without local AD. We have salamandersoft and it works well with Bromcom, pretty much set and forget once setup. I find the price perfectly acceptable.

Honestly, move away from Cunningham's if you can, the fact they won't support the integration with an MIS lots of people are moving to tells you everything about their company innovation speed. Life has been rosy since we switched to Bromcom payments + Biostore. It just works .
-
Yeh we moved away from cunninghams due to the poor support and outdated software. Happy with biostore, not had an issue since install unlike cunninghams.
-
Back in the days we had Sims, we just paid Capita the £700 to migrate it for us.
-
Yeh we just bought timetabler as had simiar issues with Bromcoms outdated bundled software. To be fair, timetabler actually seems to be fully featured and get the job done. It just lacks some visual eye candy and yeh the website is terrible. Trying to order took us days or reading it haha but we got there in the end.
