  1. ok, if you've got access to the original SQL server try just doing a sql backup of the master db and then restore that to your test laptop?
  2. glad to be of service, the sub report filters are actually really quite handy!
  3. I just built one in about 20 seconds that does the trick. Student Focus - add the class sub report to it and edit the sub report filter to "include records with no such member" - untick this!
  4. Is the class a sub-report? If it is then there's an option within the sub-report for show "rows with no such result" or something similar...
  5. what webpage are you looking at? Isn't the calendar taken straight from SIMS?
  6. You'd create the class in Nova-T, but if you add them directly to the course manager membership panel then it's not really an issue as far as I know.
  7. templates or marksheets? I don't have any old templates unless they are ones I'm keeping for re-use next year. Templates aren't typically linked to staff whereas marksheets are. Old marksheets can be deleted - it doesn't affect the data that is stored.
  8. In no particular order: 1. the timing out is an issue I've logged with Capita Tech Support - it shouldn't be happening and looks like a problem at their end or with their app. 2. A dummy record is just a fake member of staff, this would allow you to change their details without consequence. the reason I suggest this is that for data collection access it's best to restrict to people living at the address with the student. Changing the address record of a fake staff member is not an issue, changing your personal address every time you want to attach yourself to a different student would be a pain. 3. On the server there's a bit of software from Capita called "SIMS Services Manager". You can slide a little toggle next to the "SIMS Online Services Client" to turn it off then on again. You'd only do this to force an update NOW rather than waiting an hour or so.
  9. Don't do this on your live system if you've already decided to disable this for safeguarding reasons. The only thing this controls is access to "data collection". If you've got parents who live apart and where their partner's address is not to be shared, then disabling this would give them access. Safer would be creating a dummy record to add to their student and you can even put their address against this dummy contact to give you full access to the students data in the SIMS Parent App.
  10. for out test we did both. in reality we'd need more ipads to replace all the paper.
  11. That is for linking to Active Directory Accounts, for single sign on, not for matching SIMS accounts to personnel records. I think you've got to either get a custom patch from Capita to merge accounts or simply make a new user account.
  12. We only have half a dozen ipads, and we tried it for the first time for 1400 students last week, It works fine, any ipad can look up any class so no real issues with the odd teacher not being there. Just ask someone else to record the register.
  13. As long as someone else has an iPad there isn't a huge issue. The Evac App will happily let anyone check any group of students. As it stands we run a paper register out of SIMS anyway. What MIS are you running?
  14. You're gonna have to start there, then probably do the apply timetable bit in academic management. Had a similar issue recently, turned into a bit of a faff.
  15. stopping and restarting the Sims online services on your server will force a refresh of the data without you having to wait for it to update itself. We rolled it out to the parents of 1400 kids in October and we're nearly up to 50% take up so far, so it does work. Just got to get the parents to actually sign up.....
  16. You mean if we don't use Capita's recommended SQL setup......
  17. Capita haven't really moved their minimum spec in ages, so I'd not rely too heavily on their guidance. In response to @PD1279 it's a VM which explains the core count. The other thing I know is that our drives are shared with some other quite intensive loads our CPU load can get quite high and RAM usage is frequently 15Gb or more.
  18. marksheets are assessment items - the points will be fed direct to the student records. Could be a total pain to transport them into a marksheet. could you get away with running a report?
  19. We've got 1400 students and 6gb for SIMS and another 4Gb for Discover - running on 17gb of RAM and 3 cores from a Xeon E5-2640 @ 2.5Ghz Performance is barely adequate - some long hangs when writing to the DB. This is all running off an ageing SAN using mechanical disks. SSDs in RAID?
  20. log in to Capita myaccount? Unless Capita are shut they can sort you out.
  21. you can't mark them present if they aren't in - that's just a straight no as far as I'm concerned. X code is perfect for this situation - non-compulsory school age absence - not required to attend.
  22. the only "official" thing I can say is that attendance is part of safeguarding, you can't mark students as present when they aren't on site. If no one is actually bothered about tracking them/registering them then you could use the X code for their lessons, "not required to attend". it'll get rid of all those missing register notifications and dodgy attendance figures straight away.
  23. there's no automatic way - but you (whoever does attendance) can simply work your way through the class. I don't use a B code because we actually have them in a suite of rooms with a supervisor so they are marked as normal. If however they aren't supervised then another code perhaps a B would be better. Do they leave the site for Independent Study?
  24. We've done it as just another subject in each of our blocks. Then we have someone take the register each period. This solves the lesson attendance issue. If you haven't got a person to do that then you could pre mark the lessons in lesson monitor each week (this is how we deal with offsite lessons).
  25. I love teacher app! For 90% of what our teachers do it works perfectly, take registers, find kids, look at timetables and use marksheets. If you're running windows 10 desktops then you'll find the streamlined interface of teacher app much easier for your teaching staff then clunky 1980s vintage SIMS.net - but of course you can run either. It was bloody annoying when Capita dropped support for Android, but I've not read that they've stopped development for iOS or Windows. I'd imagine SIMS 8 is going to be using a lot of the stuff that the teacher app has. It's also got an offline mode that you can enable/disable per user.
