  1. Yep we have at least 5 academies with issues that are outstanding and the support has been abysmal
  2. Does JAMF have built-in storage? We used to do a similar thing with a small set of iPads that were used in PE. They were not 1-1, and the students would take hundreds/thousands of photos on them over the course of a day for evidence. The easiest way to get the data off was to plug into a PC with a nice big HDD and let the photos sync off. Cloud upload was/is much slower and because the devices were not 1-1 it wouldn't have been appropriate for the students to sign in to G Suite on the iPads Also, OP does not state whether he has the on-premise or cloud version of JAMF
  3. Tread carefully here, the chances of a dispute are much higher than a constructive conversation. I know some people who refuse to recycle because (they claim) they believe that the amount of energy required in cleaning and recycling many products is worse for the environment than landfill. Not a theory I subscribe to, but there you go. If your council levies fines for improper use of their bins, they will deal with it.
  4. It depends what you want the add-on to do? What features are you after?
  5. I would implore you to get a helpdesk in place. An ex boss of mine once gave me some advice: never put off a piece of work that will make *you* more efficient The temptation with something like a helpdesk is that you think "oh well its just for me, x need their printer looked at now and i'm needed in room B to setup that software and I cant even remember what Mr C needs me for, something to do with Mrs D's account??" If the helpdesk was in place, you will be able to serve the school better in the long run. The analogy he gave me was: A cargo ship has a slow leak. The captain looks at the hole and realises that the ship is only filling slowly.... so long as he dedicates one man to bailing the water out then the ship will be OK, if moving a little more slowly in the water. He could get it repaired properly, but that would take 3 men 3 days in which time the ship wont be able to move. That is unacceptable he feels as people are expecting him to make land to a schedule. So he goes with the bailing option, and sure enough the ship keeps moving slowly and they keep bailing water out. The crew are struggling being a man down and all but at least they didn't stop right? But what happens after 90 days of slow sailing? The Captain does the maths and works out they have lost 10 days of time and *still* have to keep bailing. If he would have stopped and made the repairs when it was first noted there was a problem they would be way ahead right now. But its too late now surely?? If the captain stops now he will have stopped and lost the time from bailing. That's even worse right? So the ship goes on and on forever, slow and steady but never operating at its peak as they are always running behind schedule.
  6. Really? Which LAs?

The start menu is basically dead anyway. The number of apps that are not ran through the browser has shrunk so much.
  8. Ah yes, the usual tale of no money all year and then suddenly you have £20k to spend, 12 hours to spend it and and no forward warning to allow for research and good procurement practice so you are buying on a wing and a prayer
  9. Seriously look at moving to cloud storage - Google Drive or OneDrive/SharePoint For some reason I thought you were in a MAT - do they not have an opinion?
  10. An HP low profile mouse like this: https://www.ryman.co.uk/hp-z3700-wireless-mouse much of the time, but I get strain in my hand occasionally so i then switch to a chunkier logitech. I've also trained myself to be reasonably competent with my left hand so I can rest my right one too. Keyboard? Some random RM thing I obtained from somewhere. My emails tend to be brief and much of my work is done in sheets so typing comfort is not a major issue for me
  11. Whats strange is we got a whole bunch, and later were invited to apply for more (laptops only by this stage) as the DfE had surplus We did and got a few hundred extra IIRC
  12. Here you go: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/179821-storyphones-power-supply-spec.html https://www.manualslib.com/manual/819442/Ameeca-Headset.html?page=3#manual A company going bust is no barrier to edugeek
  13. How interesting! I haven't seen a school using an actual TV signal for years! (sorry, I can't help!)
  14. I’m sure many people have considered it. But it’s a far bigger task than any school employee is likely to be able to take on. Arbor game onto the scene about 10 years ago for example and are still adding features found natively in SIMS.* * not to put Arbor down
  15. This, or just run an Angry IP scan
  16. The HSE Guidelines explicitly state that new equipment does not have to be PAT tested, but a simple visual check is recommended.
  17. Very true For that reason PAT is the de facto standard, even if not officially enshrined in law The HSE has a really good Q and A here actually: https://www.hse.gov.uk/electricity/faq-portable-appliance-testing.htm
  18. PAT testing (or PA testing if you want to be a pedant) is not mentioned in any law. Period. “As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger” The Electricity at Work Regulations - Regulation 4(2) PAT testing is seen by many as a way to meet that obligation, and yearly testing has become the de facto standard. The reality is you could PAT test everything every 6 months but if 1 day after a test a cable gets pinched in a drawer and splits, it’s a hazard. If it was proven someone knew about the split cable and didn’t replace it, a recent PAT test would not save the company from punishment. On the flip side, if you can show you have stringent process and record keeping practices, not PAT testing a box of seldom used cables annually may be seen as acceptable.
  19. I know two people who work in F1 (one for Renault and one for Mclaren) and both have said the same thing - the trackside jobs are very very demanding. They carry the obvious perks you would imagine but the guys who own those positions live and breathe it. When you go away with the team you are working 15 hour days and you can forget TOIL! Also the weekends of travel dont mean you get days off in the week to compensate Its a young man's game from what I can gather, suitable for those who love what they do and love F1. Great fun, but high intensity.
  20. I dont think a SAR will get you anywhere.
  21. If you are seriously unhappy, inform the company that you will be sending the devices back (at your expense) and inform your finance team that the invoice should not be paid. Take photographs of the damaged equipment and ensure you have your documentation and emails where you requested your spec etc all in once place
  22. Further details are available from our website or by contacting the Registrar.
  23. How have you got RDS set up? Why does it go outside of the network?
  24. Post the link and we can see?
  25. Who should they contact if interested? Thinking of non edugeek users!
