Hi Guys I look after a number of special schools where the behaviour is very challenging and devices are frequently thrown at walls, across rooms etc The issues tend to be around impact damage as opposed to scratching, pulling of keys etc We are looking ideally for a Chromebook, but would consider a Windows Laptop that is very damage resistant Unfortunately ToughBooks are out of our price range! Any suggestions?

This is correct. I'm sure schools will use zoom from time to time, but if it doesn't integrate with the other services in play its hard to see how it will become a major player. Especially considering it will be an additional cost. Schools won't want to pay for zoom so long as they have access to Google and Microsoft tools for 'free'

Almost all schools these days have either Office 365 or G Suite so will likely use Teams or Meet as their go to for meetings and remote teaching

We have anonymous access allowed (achieved by emailing Google support to ask for the restriction to be turned off) It would be great to have more granular control over this setting so we can only allow meets ran by teachers to receive anonymous guests, but on balance we felt the inconvenience of not being able to conduct meetings with externals, interviews etc without a Google account was greater than a pretty remote safeguarding risk

You are really stretching it there, NetMeeting is not the same product as Teams in any meaningful way Also I clearly said "Windows" which is the EcoSystem in the same way G Suite is (was). Not the products within Anyway I have made my point and I think most people on here would agree that G Suite was a naff name but the frequent changes are annoying none the less. I don't see any point in going around in circles on this minor issue

I agree with Primus, the name changes are annoying and undermines the brand. It certainly does nothing for the image of Google as a company that abandons products and ideas far too quickly if they cant even settle on a brand for more than a few years. The mobile phone companies you listed are a different kettle of fish as they were the result of mergers and acquisitions. Not saying Google are alone in this regard (or that G Suite was a good name) but how often has Office changed its name? What about Windows? What about AWS? What about VEEAM? All still evolving Edu-tech companies/products that have a solid brand name.

Hello All Can anyone suggest a vendor who can provide a detailed Wireless Survey? By detailed I mean it needs to have the following: Coverage 2.4Ghz /5Ghz Signal Strength 2.4Ghz /5Ghz SNR Data Rate Channel Overlap Spectrum Utilisation Airtime Utilisation Rogue Access Points Load Testing** ** It is this area that I am struggling to get assessed. I know Wireless Load testers exist but my usual go to companies do not offer this as part of their service. Thanks for your recommendations

Most of the big players like RM, XMA, Stone etc will offer this if they believe their is a potential project in it after. I haven't come across Novatia, who look like a smaller outfit but if they have come recommended that's a good start. What is it you want to get out of it? i.e ammunition for requesting further investment, handing over documentation to a new IT Guy/Girl?

I can see a few reasons: Lots of small cabs - I once worked in a school that had 15 separate cabinets. Some only served 4 or 5 devices but the way the school was laid out (one long thin building, lots of smaller outbuildings) would have made re-cabling a nightmare. So lots of small cabs with a few biggies in the tech. block OP may also work across multiple schools

Thanks for sharing this, certainly very interesting and a big commitment financially from the trust. 1-1 is going to be the norm in many places (or close to 1-1 provision, even if not ran as a single device scheme) It remains to be seen whether this is forward thinking, or just a rushed scheme. As we all know, procuring the devices is just a small part of the puzzle

I would favour buying in a product simply because it then becomes viable to give control over to someone more suitable so they can make amendments for exam periods, activity days and whatever else Scripting, GPOs and task scheduler may save a few pennies but then becomes another IT process. Also products like NetSupport look far more professional and have more customisation options than a plain text box.
