Used it for years, never had any issues. They've just recently updated it to a new version which I have updated to, and not seen any issues.

Even with cloud based services, they'll still come to IT and ask how long it will be down ! At least with on-site MIS i can give an answer and make changes when i want to, not when cloud providers want to.

Still using roaming profiles here with windows 10 and server 2019 - not seen any issues.

SIMS will always be slower on virtual. I have 3 sites, 2 run virtual (hyper-V and ESXi), and 1 physical. The physical does everything quicker and companies always tell us that the physical server is quick! Physical server OS RAID 1, Database RAID 10, and the virtual servers all on RAID 10 volume.

I've now got it working as i'd like using GPO - had a GPO conflict , but now seems to work! A single GPO with internet disabled with fake proxy address in with security filtering - apply if member of 'block internet access' If it's not a member then the normal policy gets applied!

No unfortunately not. We do have a block internet AD group which will block 90% of sites, but some sites we have a bypass for, and these still get allowed.

Hi All Does anyone use GPO here for exam accounts to disable the internet i.e setting an invalid proxy so they get nothing at all? If so, do you have to create 2 policies, one for enabled internet accounts and one for disabled account? I'd like to add the exam user accounts to either 'block internet access' or 'enable internet access' to switch between them as part of the exam need it enabled, and some disabled. If anyone could share their setup, be much appreciated. thanks

I've had this on faulty firmware before - switch can stop responding to it's IP in all ways possible, making me think the switch has failed but it is still passing traffic as end devices don't go offline. Rebooting the switch resolved the issue, however I also got it fixed in a custom newer firmware that was made and sent to me by the manufacturer, (not HP)

This is one reason I keep roles separate. An AD server is purely for AD, DNS, and DHCP. We once had one DC compromised, other 2 were fine so could just kill it, clear up the metadata and rebuild from the remaining servers.

BT and Virgin can use same ducts and fibre. We took on a school that has Virgin Media broadband, have migrated to a BT leased line and they used the same fibre cable to make the new conection.

Poor reliability from experience - when snow days occurred, their infrastructure couldn't cope with the demand with parents checking messages etc. Have since moved websites back to self hosted. limited flexibility, will charge for any major changes the school want, whereas local hosted endless and can make it unique rather than all schools using a same template.

Those with Cluster setups, what's your Backup plan for SAN / Storage failure? Do you use Replication too?

Has anyone tried setting up Windows 11 on Hyper-V VM ? I've tried 2 different spec servers both won't let me install it as says doesnt meet requirements. VM has secure boot enabled, 8GB ram, 12 Virtual Cores. ML350 Gen 10 Server as Hyper-V host What am i missing?

I use WSUS for updating of clients. I know the 'version' is always not the windows version but is the WUA version. When deploying monthly CU updates, whats the easiest way to produce a report of all systems and what minor version they are on i.e the CU version. This is so I can determine which machines have not yet applied the latest CU update. It seems all other systems I use just report the major version i.e 19043 19042 etc and not the build number after the dot.

Just for a laugh went to update a machine this evening and noticed the below!, However the Date/Time on the PC is accurate!

All our boards are ASUS and no issues with the other boards as they've all got SSDs now. However if i image the machine with the SSD attached in situ, it seems to then boot, Would appear imagining all the SSDs from one machine then putting into the machines (exactly the same as the 100 other model SSDs i imaged from one machine which work fine), this particular board doesn't like this way

We have several desktops we are upgrading to SSDs. The majority have gone find swapping the HDDs to SSDs and boot fine. However I have 1 type of ASUS board, where when the power button is pressed, we get the BIOS screen, the machine goes to boot, then it loses Power and turns off. Press the button - process repeats. Disconnect the SSD and re-connect the HDD it boots fine. Have tested with more than one machine with the same motherboard - same issue - any of the SSDs connected to the particular model of board has the issue. Different PSU and no change. Never seen this before!
