We use psf cloud, all done using rdp client.

We use Censornet. Works for both domain joined and BYOD captive portal. Captive portal uses AD credentials so can granularly give access to existing staff/pupils.

We have students logging in as following: 20SurnameInitial 19SurnameInitial etc based on their intake year and username. Whats the quickest way to create dynamic email distribution groups in office 365, for each year using the year and a wildcard so if students start 20*... they are in a 2020 intake email distribution group, 19 in a 2019 distribution group etc. Thanks.

Shame it'll become an annoyance where users will want to know how to stop having to click it off all the time. If enabled roaming profiles and sync is on, this shouldnt need to come up because it's just creating a local file on the network in their profile and not synchronising to the cloud!

I'm just 1 step away from being able to use edge chromium as default in the environment after determining it didn't work properly with roaming profiles (saving favourites) or having too much appdata in the profile, or not being able to open on multiple machines due to the lockfile. I have just tested version 86 and the latest GPO templates, but there is one thing I now need to solve that and it supressing the message below on launch of the browser. I'm forcing AD sign in and don't want the users to have to click this every time they login. Anyone know how to remove this coming up? Thanks

I've always given full control to only our staff security group. I guess everything but full control would be adequate if have read and write but cannot say i've tested that.

If I couldn't invest in IT to keep systems up to date/secure/resilient then I wouldn't be working at that place!

Spent about 2 hours on it last night and finally found a fix/workaround. created a powershell file with the following content, created a new GPO with a startup script pointing to the powershell file and assigned to my computers OU, and it works! Hoping someone can help - i've set every GPO setting possible to English UK but when users login, I still get English (United States) so Colour is picked up as being wrong. Here's the settings in word, if someone could please help? It's showing as set by policy, but at the bottom of word, it shows as US! Thanks

yes there's a GPO under the edge section to disable first startup splash screen etc.

How do you have your settings configured for favourites to stick in edge? i've tried all sorts of ways but with profiles you cannot open on more than one machine if you logon to multiple pcs as it keeps a lock file.

Use GPO to set full control for your staff security group on the sims folder, this is what we did before solus 3 and the users could then update sims on their own login.

I've worked out that when edge is launched, it's the 'lockfile' in the settings folder which is causing it. if you block the file from creation, edge won't open at all and cannot do a login script as it doesnt create the file until edge is launched.

The router has dyndns ability, however it will not work with off the shelf data SIMS because they are shared CGNAT They have to be dedicated M2M /Static IP sims.

Does anyone have experience with using fixed IP Sim cards in the UK? I have a 4g Router which I want to use purely as a back door into the network should the primary network connection fail so I can check to see if it's an internal or external issue. I know that it needs to be a static IP sim card so i can remote in using the static IP to the router/network. There seems to be a host of different providers, but looking to see if anything else uses these SIMS cards and costs where they have purchased from. As it will be seldom used for access, other than idling, don't want to spend a lot if there's a better PAYG option. Thanks.

Not found a permanent solution yet, as long as the user closes edge on the first machine they can then lock it and use on another machine.

you need to have at least 1offline backup of some sort, if you get ransomware or targeted this could destroy all data on all network devices including sans and Nas systems. Ive known this to happen.

What if you have 2 dhcp servers for redundancy, you have to add the details to the other server because if you reserve on one dhcp server and the printer devices to get a request from the other server , it'll end up with a different IP? I static everything that will be static on the network, switches, cctc, printers, access control, APs, etc. DHCP is just used for clients.

I don't understand why people 'static' ips using DHCP reservations! If it's a core network item, give it a static IP properly!

We've always been fortunate - our schools have had the same FTTP leased line connection into the schools in the trust for last 16 years at least (since I started there). For 100mb 1:1 contention symmetrical with pay zero cost for the connection as is funded by the LCC. Other schools on a 200mb fttp connection only costs us 500 per year. Depending on what county you are in, see if there are any local cheaper options before you start going independent and costing a fortune. One of our schools were independent with RM broadband at £9200 a year! switching them back to LEA funded, it costs them £500 a year after an approx £3200 install charge!.
