I have 1 Dell server Poweredge R515 which I inherited from a merge , which eats more hard drives than the 12+ bank of HP servers I have. The server has space for 3.5" drives. I've just ordered a replacement drive and was delivered with a 2.5" drive in a 3.5" caddy. I went back to the supplier about this and they have been told that this is what Dell are now doing called a 'hybrid' drive. Seems a bit weird to me, but does anyone else now have a mix of 2.5" and 3.5" drives in their server? Why have they stopped making 3.5" drives?

Maybe try something like logonbox ? free version should be sufficient, web based ad/password management.

A year ago i replaced 20 switches with D-Link DGS-1510-52X 48 gigabit port swiches and 4x 1000/10gb sfp ports at £380 a piece.

So we have deployed edge Chromium across the site via MSI and implement the included GPO templates. Reports came in that favourites in Edge Chromium were not saving after a logoff. Multiple tested resulted in the following: - By default the favourites database is stored in the local profile so it doesnt roam - Edge chromium ignores the policy setting of sync favourites between IE and EDGE - If the profile variable is used to store the settings in the appdata\roaming then the folder gets too large slowing down logins. I have therefore using GPO set the appdata location to the users home directory so that it doesnt pull down/save at each logon/logoff and if have to reset a roaming profile, the favourites will still remain as stored on the network. However, reports were revived of edge not launching at times. It has been narrowed down to being an issue if the user is logged onto more than one machine, edge will not launch, which i presume it because the first login is locking some files that stops it launching on the second machine. If they log off the first machine, edge then starts working on the second one. How is everyone else managing the favourites for edge chromium? Thanks.

I'd been using the free 100 sensor prtg network monitor for years. Due to some funding, i've now just purchased a 1000 sensor license to cover everything i need to monitor the core services. great product and seems to be the best for exchange server monitoring as other products I tested dont include all the probes with useful information, like prtg.

Cisco Meraki kit seems ridiculously expensive to me. I was offer a trial of some kit but well out the budget. They say the cost covers 10 years service including the license, but the cost of a 48 port cloud managed switch was 4 times the cost of a normal switch I buy with the same features and lasts me 10 years anyway! Much prefer 1 outright cost.

We have a fleet of samsung copiers which run android so has VNC built in to view the screens!

Still use VNC here for remote pC viewing and photocopier screen viewing. All locked down so that only my workstation IP can connect to the clients, keeping it secure from prying eyes

I'd have to always email from OWA to test. Every time i send the email i always use the autocomplete entry, sometimes it goes, sometimes it doesnt. I've even removed the autocomplete entry and typed the email afresh . Difficult to test, as sometimes i can go ages with using the autocomplete entry and it's been fine, then one time i use it, it fails and have to re-send.

I am running on-premise Exchange 2016 server and randomly/occasionally I have an issue with emailing external email addresses. On the first send I get an undeliverable with: Remote Server returned '550 5.1.11 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; Recipient not found by Exchange Legacy encapsulated email address lookup' However, if i re-send or go to my sent items - re-select the email address, the email then delivers the second time. Has anyone seen this before, or know why it should be a sporadic issue, when the external email addresses are not even part of the same email organisation. It doesnt happen on all emails, and sometimes I can send to the same recipient and it will go the first time. Thanks.

Link aggregation won't work for Core 2 and Core 3 because on those chassis switches both ports have to be on the same slot (it has 8 x 2 port 10GB ports) so if the slot fails both links go down. I can only use link aggregation on core 1 as its a stack of switches so can LAG between different switches,. I would like to connect to 2 different ports on 2 different slots so i am protecting against a slot and SFP module failure. Currently between switch 1 and 2 i have 2 different ports on 2 different slots connected and working fine. I am just trying to get the dual link between core 1 and core 3 to work the same as 1 and 2.

Morning All, Please see below a setup which i am trying to achieve I've enabled RSTP on all 3 switches, and looking to setup redundant links between core 1 and core 2 and core 1 and core 3 (i'm not looking to link Core 2 to core 3) At the moment i've got the 2 links working between Core 1 and Core fine, however when i connect the second link from core 1 to core 3 , all links on Core 3 get broadcast storm and one of the links it not blocking. I'm still learning Spanning Tree, but wondered what i've missed, either i need to configure priorities or ports independently although the first core 1 to core 2 setup worked out the box. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I have dlink switches and was looking at RSTP. I don't have spanning tree enabled because the switches have loop back detection enabled across all ports so of any ports get looped it will disable both and send an snmp notification to me and everything I running as single uplink from switches at the moment so stp isn't required to stop loops

Hi, I've always ran a single link for core switches to distribution switches and never had a failure. However, to further improve redundancy, I want to configure 2 links between edge and distribution for redundancy. On the core switch i have 4 switches in stack configuration, and can Link aggregate across multiple switches. However, on the distribution switch I can only link aggregate ports on the same chassis switch slot. Therefore, i think i have 2 options: Use LACP for the 2 links between core and distribution switches but this will only cover a SFP module failure on the same slot, and the other port remain active. If the chassis line card failed both link would fail. Therefore if i connected 2 links from the core stack (2 different switches) to 2 different line cards on the distribution chassis would i then enable STP? I've not setup STP before but believe the core switch needs to be set to a value of 0 and then i need to set ALL non redundant link ports to edge? If anyone can help/advise so i can get this implemented on Monday, that would be great. Thanks

i always use this when doing transfers, keeps all permissions and date/time stamps between the folders, robocopy \\source \\destination /FFT /MIR /SEC/ DCOPY:T

I've taken on multiple schools and see it too often where switches are daisy chained , i found one that had 5 x 24 port switch daisy chained across 2 cabinets, 1gb fiber to the first switch. it had 4 core fibre so no idea who set that up! safe to say all ripped out and did dual fibre and 48 port switches. As for core, make sure its L3 for inter-vlan routing. I used to go chassis based for core, but now go for switch stacking, to give that extra redundancy.

All our sites are on same private WAN provider with site to site IP access and forest trusts. We have a network drive same letter mapped at all sites for sharing resources.

Check dns resolution may need to create zones to point to each sites DNS or forwarder. also you'll need to add dns search suffix to both sites if you don't want to use FQDN

If I want to change the domain administrator password is there any way to determine what services or programs are using the password? Over the years I've setup unique AD users for some services and systems but having Inherited the network there will probably be scheduled tasks or other software which is using the domain admin account. Is it a case if change it and see what breaks or a way to audit where the account might be used on the network? Thanks.

I didnt think that a static ip would be required as it has DDNS - assume it just needs to be a SIM which allows incoming connections?

I'm guessing this is the case with all standard uk SIM cards? will incoming rules only work if I get a proper contract M2M SIM card?

Get 2 for redundancy, we've always had Fujitsu or Mitsubishi units and been trouble free. Used to have LG but troublesome. Air con suppliers made recommendation as to unit capacities.
