Just enabled insider on my surface pro 7 and its gone onto windows 11..yay! We've just replaced out 12 year old quad core PCs with new refurb i5 base units with ssd at less than £190 each! we used to buy new, but these with brand new SSD and RAM 3 year warranty its been a cost effective upgrade for us when funds have been short

Cant fully comment on HPE support apart from the odd server hard drive failure as that's all we've ever had on even the still running 10 year old HP servers. Always found them rock solid. With the drives, I call up, tell them a drive has failed, send them the log to prove failure, they send a replacement next day. Odd HP switch which has failed, same, report failure, new switch next day. As for HP Digital cameras in the early days, we had a new camera which the battery wouldnt hold charge, would charge it up til full, put in the camera, it wouldnt turn on. called HP support and they told me to power on the camera and factory reset it.... I don't think they understood the camera wouldnt turn on! lol

As a MAT of 3 schools, starting with Censornet , one with Lightspeed and one with Smoothwall, all will eventually be on Censornet. Lightspeed was terrible, Smoothwalls support was awful 2 weeks to wait for support of a frozen box and told not to reboot it because the wouldnt be able to get the logs off it. Well if its frozen course you cant and don't want me to reboot it for 2 weeks?! Joke! Lightspeed box HDD failed one day just out the blue, took down site-site access as inline, but luckily was in the process of implementing censornet. In-Line devices no longer suitable for us with site-site connections, box dies, no site to site. Censornet has a local gateway (VM) and all filtering is cloud based. It now means we can have 100% uptime between sites and any internet issues only affect the internet. If the VM has issues, we still have site to site WAN connectivity just no internet but it's never failed us and can have as many vm's as you want for redundancy/load balancing at no extra cost. With censornet I get instant live chat/support on their website, they'll always work on the issue straight away, direct contact with technical manager, and account managers work closely with CensorNet. One weekend the filter failed due to an ssl certificate issue on a Saturday morning. Running a windows 2016 server with Mcafee - zero detections from fulls scans for long long time . Just ran the 2019 installation media to upgrade the server ran a clean install. Once upgraded and logged into the 2019 desktop, checked McAfee was ok and up to date, and saw the alert entry below with date/time i've just done the upgrade. Is it false positive alert?

Always best to do clean installs, a upgrade doesnt always migrate everything across especially if you've made custom settings in the registry etc.

Interesting - we had this. Took 2 weeks for smoothwall to remote in but they said because i rebooted the box there would be no logs and to put it down to a one off like a windows BSOD! So we were meant to go with no internet for 2 weeks and not reboot it when it was inaccessible via its ui ?!

Thanks but it's the 'email' button in SIMS they want to use and launch 365 rather than Outlook.

Is there any way to have Office 365 outlook web app set as the default mail client so when mailto links are used it will launch office 365, sign users in if not already and then compose the emai with the recipients email address, or is the only way to do this is to have the user use the full version of Local Outlook? thanks

Support definitely downhill - our box froze and i rebooted it as we had no internet which restored access. when logged ticket at the time they said if I've rebooted it then they can't get any logs off it but when it froze couldnt do anything. 2 weeks later i get asked to provide them with a remote session and told its a one off like a blue screen of death, so if i didn't restart it we'd have been 2 weeks without internet! End of renewal we shall be leaving smoothwall.

Has anyone done the RMUnify removal and then reverted back to Microsoft Azure AD sync tool, and could assist with the steps? My understanding is that users AD passwords are not stored in 365 as pass though from RMUnify so once removed, users wont be able to login. Following RM unify removal instructions should the immutableID be cleared or not before installing Microsoft's tool? I need to be 100% clear on what will happen and the process involved to move away from RM Unify sync tool to Microsoft Azure SYnc tool so that once RM is removed, users can still login in with their AD password. You still have to set it up and you cannot specify exact driver settings so where we have a driver we have to change the settings of in device manager you cannot do this. Acronis will capture as the machine is with drivers, and not install drivers as part of the setup process.

Acronis True Image - make your base image, run the re-arm commands. Will restore a full windows image with software on in less than 10 minutes!

I never understand how SLT make decisions like this in schools,. They should be coming to you as IT staff and consulting you. When i started in the Job we have 100 Dell Celeron laptops turn up on a 5 years lease with no input, they just arrived in the office. Then they wondered why we had so many issues, including having to get a Dell engineer out as the wireless cards didn't work properly! If your the IT Lead you should get some Input as your the technical one! They should be doing what you think is best for the school as they don't understand/know the implications/changes required. So glad i've just decommissioned a schools last CC4 server and gone to Vanilla!

Sometimes you cannot even trust Data contractors - we have some network sockets terminated years ago by Data Cabling - if we take the single sockets off the wall there is an unterminated cable behind the socket, but terminated at the patch panel end !
