Every infrastructure is different..could be the total number of servers across a trust...i know ours in increasing and it's all about role separation and redundancy...might have systems you don't have and why put all eggs in one basket!

Are electricians actually qualified to do data cabling to EN/BS standards? When we've had new builds, they've wanted the electricians to do the data cabling but I have always insisted i get data cabling companies in. This is based on previous experience of county built buildings where they daisy chained all the data cabs together i.e Ground floor Fiber from Server Room to cab 1, fibre from cab1 to cab2, fibre from cab 2 to cab 3 etc etc - all 4 core cables! With getting data cabling people in, they did the job proper - fiber to each cab back to the server room!

My issue is the opposite. these mapped drives are not on the remote network. They are local network mapped drives.

I'm mapping network drives via DFS share name. - \\domain When i connect to a remote network via SSTP VPN i lose access to the network drives - however I can manually browse each individual server by its UNC path \\server1 and all works fine. If i double click on any of the network drives it will hang for a bit and then come up with 'the user name of password is incorrect' Why would dfs path lose access, but not server unc path when connected to a remote network over vpn connection? Is something routing screwy?!

Thanks everyone - it's more of an experience and knowledge than doing it day to do. I have run pre-term before between cabs getting the patch panels etc, but having to drill massive holes to get the protective tube through is a shame. I've got a length of 500m fibre in storage recovered from a building link which was chopped at both ends, and thinking of re-using. If running myself and getting someone to just terminate it, does anyone know what the typical cost is, if you've done this before? I'm guessing those that the cost of fiber install is mainly the termination. Thanks.

Has anyone done fibre optics training? if so what courses did you do? I have knowledge self taught about some elements of fibre optics with doing internal patching, types of fiber om2 3 4 sm and mm etc however it would be good to do a course so i can self-terminate/splice fiber cables as well. thanks in advance

I've got remoteapp setup for users and customised the logo and 'work resources' Does anyone know where in the source code, files, I can put some extra code so that I can put an information message on the login screen above or below the login field? Alternatively once users have logged in , be able to put a custom message about the apps, where i can put information like maintenance alerts etc? Thanks.

Yes you choose which OUs you want to sync with.

Free version allows you to set security questions. you point the users to the VM web interface. they enter their username and AD password. they then set their answers to the questions. In future when they visit the page they choose reset password enter their username answer x number of questions out of the total and if get correct cam enter new password and writes back to AD.

Exactly why all our data is still local, can simply open up explorer by a shortcut and dive into anyone users area...not found the same way to do this with cloud storage yet - list all the users and open their folders and files as easy.

I've jut setup a VM of LOGONBOX - Looks good but haven't rolled out yet, until done further testing. Should have had this setup before we closed, due to the number of students who cannot remember passwords! FREE version is all i need.

OK so the issue is now resolved - after running the windows 10 updater online so it goes to version 1909 it now works successfully!

Laptop has now updated to 1803 but same issue!

No 3389 is not exposed no need for it.

That was my initial thought, as 2 were on talktalk but one on BT and i've with BT. Determined the machine is on build 1709! so getting that updated which will hopefully resolve the issue.

The user is at home and same issue on home internet and 4g. proxy settings are switched off and they can get to google, bbc etc without an issue. registry somewhere maybe?

I've got RemoteApp access running on a server, and is working absolutely fine for 99% of users even on MACs with the RDP download. However, for some staff who are using laptops, they cannot connect to any of the apps... When they go to the URL, they get the login page - they can login fine They select an app - it downloads the file They open the file - they get prompted for their credentials. After entering credentials they get: your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the remote desktop gateway server is temporarily unavailable. How do i resolve this? It's not a server side issue and if i do a ping or nslookup it's responding correcting as they can obviously resolve the FQDN as they can get to the website to login.... Where do i need to go for the logs to find the problem? Thanks.

I've learnt with exchange that not all.l changes are instant. depends when you hit the refresh interval. If I have to do mailbox investigations after adding administrator access sometimes I can access straight away other times 15 minutes later.

Can you clarify which logs? I have the exchange log files on C and database on E

I have 2 exchange servers in a DAG. Both have a 146gb raid 1 drives with the OS on. Both are running fine, however i'm having an issue with 1 of the servers. The disk space keeps reducing. On 1 of the servers, i have 45gb of free space - iclear the IIS logs out every so often to keep plenty of space. THe other server gets down to 10gb free space and I am unable to clear the IIS log files any more than I have. When i do a foldersize comparison between the 2 servers c drives i find the following: On the server with the lowest space, the WinSXS folder is hugely larger than the other server. Is there anything i can safely do to reduce the size of the folder without having knock on effects now, or in the future with any changes to the server. THnaks,

Is there a reason why you need to have physical machine access? What happens if the machine fails/crashes/switches off and WOL doesnt work? Keep with RemoteApps as it's more secure.

I think you can throw whatever you like at SIMS but when it comes to reports being run, SQL CPU never goes very high maybe 20%. It's badly coded.

I'd have thought RAID 10 would be faster?
