I know we link into JANET via our LA Found something out http://www.webarchive.ja.net/community/schools/content/pathe.html Building on the recent Schools Licence between British Pathe, the Regional Broadband Consortia (RBCs) and UK partners, JANET(UK) has enabled direct access to the British Pathe Archive via the schools broadband interconnect to the JANET network. The agreement between British Pathe and the RBCs allows schools free access to high-resolution digitised clips of news film dating back to the 1890s. The collection includes 3,500 hours of film and 12,000,000 stills. The Archive is also being made available to all schools in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales via the JANET network. The connection, funded by DfES, links the archive database in Milton Keynes to the SuperJANET backbone via a high-speed link. This enables teachers and pupils to download media files with the speed and reliability that is essential for the use of these materials in the classroom. This development facilitates the use of moving images within schools in support of learning whilst also providing access to unique cultural and social resources. The archive records 75 years of change from the death of Victoria to the birth of space travel. Society, culture, economics, politics and war are recorded with national and international stories appearing alongside regional and local news items. Reviews and documentary features are available as well as clips of unpublished film. Therefore, it represents unique opportunities for teachers and students alike to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum.

I've done all the tech specs, selected the companies we're using, but thanks to our bursar not doing the intro and legal blurb when he should have and now being off ill I have to do the whole thing and am a bit stuck! Hope someone can help!! PS - As mentioned we have already selected the companies we're approaching and are not looking for any more!

I think our management's view on it is that they should be able to check up on what the rest of the staff are doing if required. Why!!?? Don't they trust their staff? It is also felt that there are data protection risks involved with giving support staff admin access. For that reason, we have to go to them if we need to logon to a server or access users folders, etc. More of a risk from you not being able to do your job. Are they going to setup all permissions properly? I don't necessarily agree with this, but I've only been in this kind of job for a small amount of time so it's not really my place to argue with them. Nothing to stop you putting forward a case for you having unrestricted access to do your job, as per contract/job spec. I've not heard of any other school working this way!!!

OOOh yes please, I don't have a tidy mug! It's particularly apt as my threat to staff who give me (lighthearted) grief is are they sure their Internet history is all legit?

My cats had no problem with it as they were already used to a catflap. Going out is fine as it doesn't use the reader, it's only used to allow them in. It has a handy night mode where you can stop them going out in the dark (no chance my one cat would trash it to get out!) or a vet mode where you can stop them going out at any time. Programming is a piece of cake, though it's useful to have the cat(s) to hand so you can scan them!

I've got one and it works very well! I got fed up of my part feral cat losing or breaking the staywell infrared ones, it worked out expensive at £10 a go to replace them weekly so I decided to buy the petporte. A word of advice, make sure you seal any gaps or after a while the moisture can set it randomly off! Also, it is a slightly different size to the staywell ones so it isn't a straight swop unfortunately

Reminds me of a job interview I had with Tesco's when a student. They asked what qualities I could bring to them, and I replied, as I'm tall I can easily reach the top shelves. They didn't find it amusing and strangely enough I didn't get the job! I did second time around though!
