The health & safety aspect of wireless i.e. does it fry kids brains, is still very much personal viewpoint as there is no evidence that it does! From my experience wireless is not as reliable as wired connections. A new wired install will likely be cat 6 and you've got up to 1gig bandwidth should you need it. Wireless is not up to that (yet!) and even if it does get there it's always going to be limited by inteference, walls, distance, number of devices etc For me it's wired wherever possible!

Can I ask what your role is in the school? If you only have a limited account are you are a techie? If so can't the NM or another techie give you access to Ranger admin?

has anyone successfully downloaded the 64 bit trial from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B6E99D4C-A40E-4FD2-A0F7-32212B520F50&displaylang=en I only get a few kb sized file when I try I was hoping to download it, install and test our antique educational progs on it today. I have a DVD at home from the roadshow, so I may have to wait until tomorrow (hope it has 64 bit version on it!)

I've posted a response to this on the Times site! I believe that it's better for this age range to be normal toddlers playing (okay structured play, but still play!)and socialising, not being forced IT, etc..................

Not far behind you, I've just checked my thermometer we're at 30C. I know when it gets too hot as the file server sounds like a 747 taking off as all it's fans hit maximum!! - Normally about 32C!! No aircon here either, but at least in August in our new site we have a dedicated server/comms room with aircon

Thanks both. The package we're getting comes with Adobe illustrator, so if Photoshop doesn't do what we want Illustrator will! For some reason when I checked what we were getting I didn't spot Illustrator, doh!

Hi guys, I've been asked to double check that Photoshop CS3 extended will allow the building of 3D images using vectors. This is for pupil use in that PITA course known as DIDA (PITA as nobody thought to let us know the software that would be needed when it was introduced last year!) As we're getting the design suite in September I don't want to get more software (free or otherwise) if we can use what we will have! Cheers!

We'll be heading the 2008 route with all our new servers this summer. I'm plunging straight in and setting our new school up with a vanilla 2008 network (Vista and XP SP3 clients). The decision for 2008 is NAP and mainly the improved TS features. Currently trying to convince management to let me have MS 2008 training!

Just back from the roadshow (had to leave early!), the good news is there's lots of tea, coffee, snacks and lunch. Oh and a free copy of Vista Ultimate (full not trial!) as well as a trial of 2008 Server Lost of interesting things talked about such as Hyper-V. NAP, Vista tips, etc Well worth a visit I'm off to play with Vista now
