SO 1/2 circa £24k at the moment. I got onto this scale by writing to the governing body asking for a py rise and stating what I was doing and what had been done since I started. The first time they said no, teh second I had an interview lined up elsewhere (lucky timing!) so they said yes :-) 520 PCs and laptops, 7 servers, 2 sites, one technician (I'm the NM) and until recently I was teaching some 6th form courses. I'm also planning the ICT setup for our new PFI (Thank god not BSF) school which opens in Sept

Agreed, we have two. One is in a classroom with Cisco switches and routers in for the CCNA course I used to teach. The lock disappeared of it one day!!! Carrying on the theme of showing racks (can't beat a nice rack ) here's the one for our new school in progress!

2003 has one built in, I've got some music on there which is (or at least was) used by teachers for pacifying pupils in class (or just drowning out their whines!) Can't recall trying video on it, but don't see why it wouldn't work, as it's called streaming media services not streaming audio! I''ve got a 2008 box here at home, I'll have a play later and see what I come up with!

Dragging up an old thread here.......... Are people still using the Edirol MA 7A's? If so are the cables long enough to run down the side of the board plug into a PC? I've just been told that we have to take down our current 5.1 setups and reinstall them in our new school. That's one heck of a big job for two of us to do on top of setting up 400 PCs/thin clients and 7 servers in a 5 week stretch in the summer hols. If I can get these and just put up two brackets it'll be a godsend!! Not mentioning the difficulties of getting approval to put up 5.1 speakers including trunking, brackets and a shelf for the sub by the PFI company..... Cheers

This is a MIT Hack classic- On the morning of the dedication of the William H. Gates Building, the internet kiosks in the lobby which normally ran Windows XP were changed to temporarily boot linux. The screens displayed a welcome message from Tux the Linux penguin. After a few hours, they were converted back to Windows XP.

I think that should be posted in FFS!!! I've not heard of that happening before..... and I seriously hope it never happens to me, or any others on here

That's bad, very bad

We have blinds which hide us from our library. No opening windows and no external view. Our new school has us in a room with no windows at all, I tried to negotiate a skylight (we're on top floor) but failed. Still at least we have a dedicated airconned server room on the ground floor to look forward to. As for us we're gatecrashing the Business and IT faculty resource base which has windows overlooking the valley (and keeping our office we should be in as a work room)

Yep I've put on weight......... First school I worked in I was the only tech and spent most of the day walking around. In the present school with two of us, and remote tools, I spend most of the day sat down. Time to dust of the rowing machine and lose a few pounds.........

I've never been one for meeting women in pubs/clubs..... I tried a few sites a while ago, and went on a few dates. Speed dating is good fun as well! Though I did notice most of the women at speed dating were teachers........ Fortunately I ended up meeting my fiance through a blind dates organised by mutual friends

Have to agree here, four servers suffering hardware failure at the same time is about as unlikely as me spending the night with Kylie Minouge! Have to feel very sorry for your NM! Do send him this way, if only for us to help ease his pain!

Sounds like workarounds to me Edit: There is a patch A combined patch (11889) has been produced to resolve this and is available via SOLUS if you need a resolution in advance. Who know's may be a patch for the patch to follow as well

We use Ilient helpdesk (the free version), staff can e-mail in requests or you can do it via a web interface. If you want more than two administrators or AD integration you have to pay. Works well for us
