Cloudready doesn't work - it appears to install OK, but doesn't. It was incredibly slow too so I wouldn't say they were a viable option.

I was going to recommend a VeryPC G2 Ultrabook but they don't seem to have them on their website anymore. I've got an i5 one with SSD and its stupidly fast, very small and sleek and was £466. Give @VeryPC_Colin_M a shout - he'll sort you something good out.

Windows movie maker does DVD authoring. Its not available from Microsoft but you can find it via google. You'll have to create a mailbox for your photocopiers to use. This works but you have to change the password every 60 days (or whatever you've got it set to) so it can become a pain depending how many photocopiers you have. Alternatively, you can allow the photocopiers to send email directly. They are quite heavy - about 1.5KG each. So a quick check on parcel2go.com suggests they would cost about £30 for next day delivery plus £21 insurance based on them being worth £15 each. I could try installing the home version of cloudready on one of them if you like...

Are you scanning to a NAS box? Some older NAS devices only support SMB v1.

We've been using Classroom Monitor to track pupil progress with mixed results and SLT have decided to look at alternatives. OTrack from Optimum has been suggested and I wondered if anyone has any experience of it they would be willing to share? Customisable Pupil Tracking - OTrack by Optimum TIA

If they are working as switches allowing the connected PCs to access the network, then it sounds like the IP addresses you have been given for the switches are not correct. You could try using the arp -a command to find the mac addr of the one working switch, then look for similar mac addresses (the first 6 digits should be the same) and see what IP addresses they have.

We've got 5 sets of those Dynamode ones from ebuyer. 3 of them have broken boom mics - they just snap internally so they swing freely and don't stay in position. Then a couple of lessons later they fall out completely. We've had ours about 4 months but don't use the mics so I'm not bothered. The headphone themselves work fine and seem more robust, its just the mics that are flimsy.

We use 2Simple 2Build a Profile here as well. EYFS staff love it. Teachers use it on their iPads and TAs use it on iPods so they've always got a device on hand for logging evidence, making notes etc...

Is the VM running out of disk space?

I use powerpoint for animated titles etc. I used to do basic editing in movie maker and more advanced editing with Adobe Premier Elements but since I moved to Windows 10 I use Shotcut most of the time.

We have Konica photocopiers that do the same thing. I setup a Konica user to do exactly what you suggest - Never let users create their own things!

My first thought is antivirus software - what AV do you use? Can you temporarily disable it and see if that helps.

We have 32 Fizzbook Spin NL2 netbooks that we need to get rid of so I can re-use the trolley they are currently stored in. They're showing signs of age and some are missing the stylus although all do work - they're very basic and the Atom CPU is showing its age but they do all switch on. @IrritableTech I could test that out as we do have a couple of switches with gbic fibre modules in, however I can't do it in normal working hours without taking down half the network...

I've not looked in the box on the wall above the cabinet where the fibres are terminated - I didn't touch that end at all, only the fibre patch lead at the media convertor end. I'll have a look and see if I can see anything obvious but I'm not too sure what degraded glue will look like...

The strange thing for me was the way it degraded over the past few days but it wasn't until I disconnected and reconnected the media convertors it died completely. Can anyone recommend a decent fibre testing company in the Leeds area?
