I thought that but its a thick armoured cable with the 8 fibres inside - how come only one pair has stopped working? The majority of the run is underground. I can't see any damage on the above ground cable.

I've got a strange issue with the fibre running between our two buildings. Its an 8 core cable with 3 pairs being used for curriculum and 1 for admin. At the beginning of this week the admin office reported an issue saying that opening and saving files was taking ages. I checked the SIMS server VM, but couldn't find anything of note. Then printing started taking an age, I'm talking several minutes to spool one page before printing. Then SIMS started playing up with application errors. I checked all the obvious connections and power cycled the admin edge network switch, no joy. After various group policy updates and a couple of server reboots we were still no nearer to finding the fault. I tried power cycling the fibre media convertor and it refused to re-connect the fibre link between the buildings. Next, I tried a different, known good, media convertor and it still refused. So I changed the media convertor at the other end and it still wouldn't connect. So I moved both the media convertors onto one of the other fibre pairs and it connected straight away. I've since tried another set of known working media convertors on the faulty fibre pair and it refuses to connect. So the question is, what has happened to break the fibre and how can I fix it? OK, so that's 2 questions

We use Fastrak from BioStore for e-registration. In the mornings the children use it to select which lunch option they would like for the day, this automatically marks them present. In the afternoon they use it again for e-registration only.

Yet another Inventry here. It works well for us. We have the main (big) touchscreen AIO PC in the main building reception and a small barcode scanning unit in our second building. We only use it for visitor and staff management though, not pupils. We print our own ID badges for staff on a Magicard Pronto card printer.

That's very similar to what we do, but on a much smaller scale as we are only one school, but with two buildings. We use Altaro but the principle of backing up to NAS and duplicating to another NAS in the other building is the same. We also backup the most important data to the cloud via Attix5 Pro nightly.

I agree with @robyholmes in that print quotas are more of a headache than they are worth. We've re-introduced them since coming back to school this term and all that happens is people run out so ask for more credit. Papercut isn't free but it does come highly recommended and is the route I'll be pushing for when our current printer/copier contract runs out.

Multiple digital channels are bundled together into one MUX - unlike old analogue TV where each channel had its own frequency. So freeview is made up of several MUXes, and yes, Spike and Home are on the same MUX. https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/multiplexes As @Andrew_C says, it could be something as simple as a new housing block being built near you or something like a mobile phone mast. Are you able to test it without the splitter on just 1 TV? If the power has dropped, using a passive splitter may no longer be an option. We're a primary school with just over 100 users (staff only, not pupils) with a 40Mb FTTC connection. Out staff mainly use mail and onedrive, some use yammer and have no problems with it other than the admin interface being a bit slow.

We're with Exa on a FTTC connection and I'm just looking at their Dark Light fibre offering - very interesting!
