We use Altaro to backup our VMs to NAS and offsite copy to second NAS in another building. No tapes for us anymore.

+1 for getting rid of RM. Moving to a vanilla Server 2012 will be much simpler than you imagine. The price you've been quoted seems high for the spec you've described. I would also suggest that you go for more storage in the servers. You'll get far better performance rather than dragging files over the network to/from the NAS, and you can't easily expand the server storage once you've setup RAID on it. Get in touch with some of the specialist education suppliers on edugeek who will be more than happy to offer solutions which we can sense check for you. Keep us informed!

Try disabling Sophos temporarily, just so you can rule it out. Another unusual thing that affects some ISPs is if the time/date on the laptop are incorrect. Doesn't have to be massively out, just a couple of minutes can be enough to make the ISP throw a wobbler.

What anti-virus are you using? I had something similar in a previous school and it turned out to be McAfee Internet Security causing the problem.

The only one of those I have seen and used is a Vividtouch and it was very good. Works well with SMART notebook software. The VTE range has been discontinued though, I believe. We had our demo model from VeryPC. Give @VeryPC_Anthony_L a shout and see what he can do for you.

We have two LG TVs with older SFF PCs connected running Windows 7. One of the PCs is also the Xibo server so runs XAMPP and MySQL. Works well for us.

I would have the demo, and make sure all the interested parties are present as it will make it easier for you to 'sell' it to the powers that be, if they are there to see it in action and ask any questions they may have. Pricewise, its about in the middle of what we've seen so far. We were very impressed.

That's interesting as we've just had a demo in school here and I would say the opposite. They have been great to deal with on the phone, not pushy in anyway. The guy that came today was very knowledgeable about the system, gave a good demo and answered all mine and the SBM's questions very well.

I've got some older Netgear switches you can have for a modest fee if you collect them or arrange a courier. They are JGS524 24-port gigabit unmanaged switches. Way better than hubs PM me!

I don't think their service has declined - its always been terrible! We are planning to replace all our Smartboards next financial year with touchscreen devices like the Vividtouch. As has been mentioned above, the teaching staff do seem to like Smart notebook so we'll be sticking with that initially.

We currently use a brother label printer too. Nothing fancy but it does the job and is a step up from sheets of laser labels!
